  1. the wording would be tricky, because there are instances when i have my fly at my feet, not fishing, but waiting to be able to cast. i know that in the parks, chumming is illegal, i don't know if it is on taney too. i'd have to see the actual law to get a definition of chumming, but if the wording were changed to include something like: "any act performed with the intention of placing prey or food in the water column or surface for the purpose of causing fish to feed" there are probably better ways to word it, but you get the idea. this would apply to everyone on the water, fishing or not. if this were applied to at least the trophy section, it would do half the job of solving the problem. enforcing is another story, but the law would be there. tippet, what would your idea of a heavy fine be?
  2. i just tied one up using fibers from the feathers on the upper part of the wing off a rooster pheasant. if you hunt much, game birds are a gold mine... might be a little shot up, but perfectly good for tying.
  3. illegal
  4. man, you're not kidding they're vulnerable. i went down there this fall (2nd trip ever to the lake) and had no idea. i think i ended up foul hooking more browns than i hooked fair though. in addition to the no creeling rule, maybe there should be a barbless and/or no tandem rig rule. i know its a bit off subject, but i was under the impression that trout can't reproduce in taney. is there any truth to that? if so, why?
  5. even if the judge won't fine the person, most people would just pay the fine rather than deal with the hassle of going to court. if the judge threw the case out, its still a pain to go to court... take time off work, or whatever else you're doing, possibly hire a lawyer (some people would), then sit in court and wait your turn. if the judge hates shufflers, he might not listen to the defense given either, his mind already made up. in my very limited experience with judges though, they are fair, and unbiased. granted there are exceptions, but there always are. the problem i was pointing out was more about the agent being a d*** than guilty people getting off. both are real possibilities, lilley's is a bit better of a point.
  6. the only real problem i see with that is if an agent is crabby or doesn't like someone, they could ticket them for any type of foot movement in the water, or (as i regularly do at outlet 2) having their fly at their feet waiting for the hole to open up for a cast. its a great idea, it really is, but its waaay too vague. and based too much on personal judgement.
  7. well, for the most part, fishermen are honest (well, when it really matters ), respectful people. the few that aren't probably wouldn't take the time to go on the internet to talk to people they don't already know. truth be told, they probably don't really care about conservation, manners, or any other issue associated with catching fish.
  8. funny story, i was writing a post before i saw lilley's on here. i was actually getting a little worked up but he's right, they'll always be there, but nobody should put up with it. the cases of people being purposefully rude are few and far between. most people are just oblivious, and will be very apologetic if you courteously tell them what they did. if you are dealing with a person who continues to be rude, realize that they are being disrespectful, not just to you, but to every other angler they will cross paths with. don't let the person win, stand up for yourself and your right to be where you are. chances are, the person is used to getting his way and forcing people out of their spots. the more he fails, the less he'll try. as for shufflers, i have a post in the "general flyfishing topics" forum about dealing with them.
  9. i go down there quite bit, not opening day though. i'd be glad to pick some up from you next time i'm in branson (probably late spring or summer) and bring them back to maramec on my way home.
  10. i don't think mdc really could regulate shuffling without making wading illegal. all a shuffler is doing is moving their feet across the bottom; we all do the same when we wade. the only real way to alleviate the problem is to ridicule the offenders. if you see a person doing it, either say something to their face, or if you don't like confrontation, make snide comments loudly and within earshot, just be ready to be punked if you try the second. ask what they're doing, then say something like, "dude, be sporting." or "if you want, i can teach you to fish right... it ain't that hard" also remember, the more people approach a person, the more compliant they become. even try to explain environmental effects, some people just don't know any better. if a person just laughs at you and doesn't care, get your buddies and crowd around them. if nothing else, its fun to beat people at the "its legal... do something about it" game, and you might just let em know the practice won't be tolerated. as for the boats, a no wake law in certain parts of the lake could quickly put an end to that problem.
  11. well buddy i'll tell you when i come down, i'd be glad to catch some fish with ya
  12. i'd guess 5 pounds or so... not monstoriously huge, but a sow for maramec
  13. i've heard the red-ribbon section is decent, but i haven't had any luck either time i was there. its a shame people won't fish it catch and release
  14. i've seen that pic before somewhere. and people say catching a fish is traumatic for it... must not be too horrible
  15. i got into mine down from the bathroom hole across from the second to last finger before the suspension bridge, had to drift straight into its mouth before it'd take... i've been there since and not seen any big ones either
  16. i was just wondering if anybody here fished roubidoux creek in waynesville, or if there's gonna be a forum for it.
  17. fantastic... thanks bud
  18. are there any easy to tie streamer patterns? i'm not quite to the level of sculpins and such, but i'd like to get a few baitfish looking patterns in the box.
  19. well, there's always a chance, and i bet if enough people wanted it, the management issue could be overcome. a little off subject, but i really want to catch brooks and cutts now... how far is either the norfork or white from rogers, ar?
  20. i don't think anybody's getting their hopes up, but if brookies overpopulate, how is it that the white and norfork do so well with them in there? and what about cutthroats? if nothing else, we might as well know why not. if there's not much of a reason, its at least worth a shot to try to get em, the worst that could happen is nothing changes.
  21. maybe they could have put the money toward... i don't know, r&d, challenge the foriegn cars' economy and longevity... maybe... no, a huge bilboard'll make people want to buy their product, not quality
  22. it'll be interesting to see what mdc and phil have to tell us
  23. i wonder if there's any way to convince mdc to start stocking them, i'd sign a petition if one got started... i'm sure tu would back it too.
  24. good point bud... it'll be interesting to see what they do. i'll be sure to watch for it
