Has anyone fished this tourney before? If so, can I get some general info...how it went, organization..etc? My dad and I are thinking of fishing it, but thought I would get some info from those that have done it before. Thanks in advance!

No magic touch here either. The hook going into the Stick-O or Trickworm is not exposed. This is what I think of as weedless. I don't use true circle hooks (I'm thinking of those reserved for ocean fishing and catfish, where one doesn't really set the hook, the fish biting and swimming does it instead), but Gamakatsus that are not straight shafted like traditional worm hooks. To me they look like a circle mixed with a worm hook. Here is what they are http://www.basspro.c...ct/90382/125244. I'm not saying I don't get stuck - but no more or less than any other time when fishing rock. Here is the football head I use with the trick worm: http://www.basspro.c...ct/74253/123370 I bend the spiral back a little so the hook easily sits in the trick worm.

Stockton Lake Fishing Report
sixstring531 replied to Stockton Lake Guide Service's topic in Stockton Lake
Whilst bass fishing main lake points last week, I'm pretty sure we were hit by qutie a few walleye. I can count at least five times I myself set the hook on a nice hit and came up with Stick-O bitten in half up the hook. I'm pretty sure these were walleye. -
Thanks for the info. I actually fish any Senko/Stick-O type bait on a circle worm hook and a split shot. It looks more like a poor man's carolina rig except I put the split shot 9-12" above the bait. I use a football head (with little cork screw) for shaky head/trick worms, and honestly, I don't really get hung up any more or less than with my other bottom rigs.

My dad and I went out for a full day of bass fishing. Reports were bass were slow -- they were right. After having a few 60-70+ bass days, a full day with about 25 seems pretty slow. We caught a lot more smallmouth this time, with the largest going 3lb14oz (big smally in my book!) We released the big brownback but did manage to keep 5 largemouth for a nice Sunday lunch. I think we only got one on a spook in the morning, with everything else coming on watermelon red Chompers brand senkos as well as BPS sticko (6 inch) and wmelon red shaky head (Zoom trickworm) rigs. On a side note - I highly recommend the Bass Pro Stick-O. They don't last as long as name brands, but they give you 2x more in a pack and the fish love em just the same. In fact, as soon as I switched from the 5inch Chompers brand to the 6inch Stick-O, I started catching more fish. It could have been the fishing picking up after three, but I'd like to think the larger Stick-O had something to do with it. I've included a pick of the smallmouth. (and my dad)

I posted my trip from last week where we caught 70+ largemouth. Nothing was huge (most were 14-17", one three pounder), but it was all day fun. In the past we've really enjoyed putting in at the lauch near H (after crossing the second bridge, there's a beach on the left and launch on the right) and gone down the Sons Creek arm. There's a large rock point - goes real deep to pretty shallow rather quickly) at the power lines (on your right after heading down the arm from that launch) and it always produces something nice down that bank. We've also done well putting in at Crabtree Cove (near dam) and fishing directly across the lake as well as down toward the rock wall. Bottom line is, there are fish everywhere in Stockton. Where the big ones are at, I really don't know - we've caught big before, but never just been in a mess of large bass (4+ lb) Here is a list of baits I know work wonders at stockton: Topwater: Popper of somekind (I like the larger ones with rattles) Buzzbait (I like Black) Zarra Spook (the yellow and green frog looking one seems to be the best for us) Softplastics: Chompers stick bait (senko) - watermelon red Zoom Trick work fished shakey head - watermelon red Chompers Skirted Grub on jig head - watermelon red (fish LOVE Chompers!) Jig and Pig - last time we used black and blue with a Net Bait paca craw trailer Crankbaits: Wiggle Warts Bandit brands Sexy Shad colored cranks (forget maker - they are KVD's colors) Shad colored lipless I know we've used stick baits, but I rarely do and can't remember any details of the brand, size and or color. So, I've basically listed the majority of the standard bass baits -- go figure, bass love bass baits! Hope this helps some!

Good Bassin Yesterday - Thanks Forumites!

Ferret - I sent you some specifics in an email. I laid out what we used in my first post, though I think most anything intruding on their nesting grounds will solicit a strike. -
I posted a request a few days ago for a good place to put in and fish the pea-gravel for our trip yesterday. A few members spoke up and mentioned a few areas in the general vicinity of where we put in. (Mutton Creek) Well, a great big thanks to Zarraspook and StrawHat for their suggestions! My father and I landed approximately 70 largemouth, lost at least a dozen more and at least 70% were 14-17" long. Nothing huge (largest was nearing 3lb, but not quite in my guestimation) but all really fun fish to catch. It was a beautiful day. All I can say is pea-gravel 45 degree banks is where it was at yesterday. We'd fish banks with transitions from chunk rock to pea-gravel and would start catching as soon as we hit the gravel. The male's tails weren't messed up yet, but they were definitely in some stage of a spawning pattern. Here is a quick run down of what we used: (I believe all were 3/8th oz) Zoom Trick Worm (watermelon red) on football jig (had the screw on the head to put the worm on -- shaky head style) and regular shaky head jig Black and Blue jig and pig with NetBait Paca Craw trailer Chompers skirted grub Senko (Chompers and Gary Bower brand) Again, thanks forum members for the suggestions. On a side note, we got to meet member ZarraSpook out on the water - nice guy!

Heading Up On Tuesday -- Where To Start?

Don't worry, I won't blame anyone if the fishing isn't that great. It's fishing for pete's sake; sometimes you catch a ton, sometimes a few, sometimes they're big, sometimes they're small....it takes work and is unpredictable. Thanks for the tip! I will most certainly be throwing a Super Spook in the morning. -
Heading Up On Tuesday -- Where To Start?

122(3) views and no suggestions! I think we've settled on Mutton Creek to put in. We're are in search of the 45 degree bank and pea gravel. If you know where it lives in this lake, let me know. Happy fishing, fellas! -
My father is coming down from StL on Tuesday to do some bass fishing with me on Stockton. We've fished it together before and done well, but with the weather being a tad awkward the past few days, I thought I'd seek some starting point advice. Tuesday is supposed to be high of 75 with no wind and we're looking for 45 degree banks and pea-gravel. Where would you start? We've thought of Master's, Crabtree Cove, Ruark.....we're just not sure where we want to start the day. We can obviously move around, but would love some opinions from the Stockton veterans. So where are (or where should) the bass be right now? It's a 6 hour round trip for him and I'd love to make it worthwhile. I'm sure the water will be up and a touch muddy too from the rain - so any advice would be much welcomed! Thanks in advance!

Decided to brave the weather and head out for a full day of bass fishing. Left out of Bolivar access around sunrise and fished all of the area to the right of the dock down to the end (Stinking Creek?) After that we headed to the left (up the lake a tad) to an arm on the left side that has some docks and lots of trees. From there we headed up the lake. We landed around a dozen largemouth, (and one 5-6 lb cat) most of which were caught in 'out of the wind' fingers and on points. It definitely wasn't optimum conditions for fishing, but it was fun. We caught most fish on soft plastics: Chompers Sinko - carolina rig Chompers skirted grub - jig head Gambler Craw - texas rig - all Chompers and Gambler were Watermelon/pumpkin green with red Jig n Pig (black and blue) Others were caught on Sexy Shad square bill and Sexy Shad lipless and a white KVD spinner bait. We had two keepers in the livewell at the end of the day - largest was only 3 lbs. Fun day considering the weather.

Good ole Busch Wildlife! My dad and I used to catch really nice largemouth out there. Lake 33, 34, 35 and 36 all used to hold good fish. I think 6.5 was the largest we caught off of 33.

A friend (3.5 lb, 18.5" white crappie!) I know you're not supposed to post more than one, but you need to see this next to a normal one This guy doesn't really qualify for Ozarks (or Missouri for that matter). He/she was caught on a large farm pond in Illinois during the Cornerstone Music Festival. My buddy is a rocker and a fisher. One heck of a crappie!

Good largemouth -- no whites -- and when I mean good, I mean very tasty! Stockton largemouth, Dales breading.........hmmmmmmmm

We took home 15lbs of bass on Friday evening. Sat morning was not so good, but the 30+ bass was a hoot. PopRs and Sinkos were the trick.
-
From Mutton did you fish the same side or go across? I've only put in there once and am not too familiar with that area. Did hit Highpoint area on Sat and slayed some monster female whites, couple walleye and many smaller LM.
-
My father was down from StL today and we slayed the bass near the dam. Put in a Crabtree Cove (as much as I will say ) and whilst the rain came down, the fish came up. All fish (ok, 1 caught on a Chompers sinko) caught on black buzzbait and zara spooks. Nothing beats topwater fishing in 4-12 ft of water! We caught keeper largemouth, kentucky, smallies and one white bass. We missed some bigger (4+ in my book) bass and my dad lost his favorite zara to what looked like a really good fish. They were hitting the top until we left at noon. The rain was coming down and they kept coming up! I've never caught a 3lb kentucky -- man they fight! Good luck friends. Some nice bass from Saturday (and a wonderful sunrise)

Put in at Bolivar Landing Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Right now a white spinner bait and/or a silver and blue shad rap are the baits to beat. The three of us caught more than 30 bass, 5 keepers and on Friday at least 1 largemouth slightly more than 5 lbs (white spinner) We also hauled in a 30in Muskie. Again, I have had a lot of luck with the shadrap (or lipless crank of your choice) and lost my favorite one to a bass that I know was well over 4lbs. Check out stockton for todays fishing trip. Here's my uncle and his Pomme Bass
