  1. The rivers slow down the migration north. Careful because the carry disease. Louisiana dillos carry leprosy under their claws. Good luck trying to trap one.
  2. Ended up not going. Didn't want to run into any storms running through the area on Sat AM. I'll plan for another weekend. Probably stop at some local bait shops to get more info.
  3. I would like to catch some walleye this weekend and I hear Bull Shoals is the place to be. I am in Branson, but am willing to drive to almost anywhere on the lake that I will have the best shot at catching them. I would appreciate any tips on location, rigs, bait, fishing style to catch walleye. I will be fishing from a boat. Thanks for any help I can get.
  4. mailto:GregPyron@krzk.com News tips can be emailed to Greg Pyron. Maybe with enough tips on these types of issues, the local media will report them more. I'm Sure Branson Daily News has a tip line.
  5. I'm taking a trip out East to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Know of any streams to catch trout or small mouth. I'm bringing my fly rod and spinning gear. Thanks.
  6. I stand by my post. (Except for my spellng). I don't usually debate, but: Quote: "Aside from SDC, I can't think of anything new that is aimed at families,... " I just listed a few new options for families. Look them up, they all have been created or built in the last 2 years and are geared towards families. New duck ride outfit still has ducks, but different lake, different route, different atmosphere. D.R. is another magician, but I know the kids like him and the Jeff Gordon angle. Besides, if they see Kirby 1 year, I'm sure the parents wouldn't mind seeing the D.R. magic show the next to mix it up. For example, I suppose you could say that Stafford's show is the same as the Pressley's because they both have music and consist of family members. To me they are completely different experiences.
  7. New family things to do in Branson in the last year or 2: Landing has a playground area that lots of kids use. Aqua Center- actually used by a lot of vacationers. Ozark Mountain ducks. New place for the butterfly emporium. Darren Romeo magic. Family fun center- laser tag, indoor paintball, some new game, etc. The new dinasour mini golf. The balloon. I'm sure there are many more NEW family things I'm missing.
  8. I've eaten famous Daves in other cities and really like their BBQ. I tried it out the first week it opened here and I agree the food wasn't good and service was bad. I went back 2 weeks ago and it was great food and better service. Branson Meadows is a ghost town because non-retail businesses moved in. OTC, Skaggs Accounting, etc. The place is mostly rented out. Plus, there is a ton of undeveloped land in the area. Check LA or NY for examples of "no more room".
  9. 1) Will the casino be floating on the water taking up fishing space? 2) I go to Rockaway frequently to fish/eat. Why don't they try to bring in Some kind of manufacturing facility? Usually good pay with steady work. They will need high school diploma people and college grads to work there. A large, untapped workforce is one of the key elements in getting a company to build a new factory. Not necessarily in Rockaway, but in the area. Maybe this has been tried. 3) If forum members want to talk about businesses paying too low of wages, they should start a new thread to put their communist ideas. Topic is about a riverboat on Taneycomo.
  10. Roundup that ivy. Keep at it until it's all gone. Then you won't have to worry about it as much in the next few years.
  11. I remember when they first did away with stamps in IA, you could still get the actual stamp from the DNR if you requested it. Might be something to check out in MO. Let us know what you find.
  12. I have to ask. What kind of problems do conventions bring?
  13. Quick note on comparing boat speeds: Be sure you are checking boat speed using GPS. The factory mechanical speedometers are notoriously incorrect. The same model may read fast on one boat and slow on another boat of the same model. Also, choose a prop pitch where your wide open throttle (WOT) falls within the recommended maximum RPM for the motor. Mercury and Evinrude are different. Different prop brands, styles, sizes, material, etc. all perform different. Fast props generally have poorer hole shot. Good hole shot will limit speed. Only way to choose a prop is to read what others are using for your same setup and try it yourself with your boat and weight. Find a good prop shop that will let you try different props before you buy. It's amazing the difference a prop can make in boat performance.
  14. It is Independence weekend, so the lake will be busy. I also noticed that the warm water has drawn skiers/swimmers/jet ski's upstream. If they run a lot of water, should push them back down. The waterfront portion is not complete. I agree that it looks barren from the lake side. However, when the rest of the restaurants open up and the 2 marinas get built, it will be a lot more inviting. I'm anxious to take the boat down to the landing and grabbing a burger/beer. As far as condos, they have been selling. I think they are already sold out. I know someone who bought and already sold his condo for a good profit. Baby boomers are coming in and they have money to burn and demand nice places to live.
  15. Does TR have zebra mussels yet?? If not, I'm sure it's a matter of time. From KY3.com: Zebra mussels show up in Lake of the Ozarks View video The Conservation Department has found the dreaded zebra mussel in central Missouri's Lake of the Ozark. Fish and wildlife experts are on the lookout for more of the striped shelled creatures, which harm other aquatic life and clog up water intake pipelines that supply cities and power plants. Officials say boat owners should wash off their watercraft to prevent to prevent the spread of zebra mussels from one body of water to another

  17. What is the story behind the gold mine on the lake?
  18. We got down there around 8:30 pm and parked in BP lot. Quite a bit of space yet. My buddy came around 10pm and had trouble finding parking. Took 76 home right after the second water song and no traffic problems. Down again for lunch Sat. and parked around belks. Place was busy. I agree with you on the lake side. I'm hoping with Crab shack, other restraunts, landscaping, and docks, the place will be more inviting from the lake side. I'm anxious to see water show/etc. from the lake side.
  19. I just read that in the paper. Every 45 min. during the day and every 15 min after dark. The article also mentioned they have 2 songs choreographed and 3 more will be done later. About 90% of the people left after the first song. They should have played both at the same time to make sure everyone got the full effect. Oh, well. The band was good and I had fun. I'm sure they'll only get better. I hope they have more bands down there in the future.
  20. Y'all left 15 minutes too early. They ran the fountain with another song after 15 minutes. Every 15 minutes after dark, like they said they would. The other song was better. Eventually they will have 3 more songs programmed in. However, it was a BIG mistake on their part not playing both songs at the same time. Most people did leave before the second song started. Should have at least anounced for everyone to wait.
  21. Housing prices have been going up a lot in the last year. Partially because of low interest rates that many can afford that 2nd home. With rates going up, that may slow a bit but with the growth in branson, people are coming and demand housing. Plenty of people with money coming to town. The thing that drives me nuts is a lot of the old fogies(and some younger guys) have a lakefront home with a dock and boat that never gets used. If they are never around or never use their boat, they should sell me their house and move off the lake. If this is you, take advantage and USE YOUR BOAT and FISH! You are taking what you have for granted.
  22. From what I hear if they don't comply with the informal request, they will make it formal. They are just trying to be nice. It has also been rumored that Joe White of Kanakuk has written some letters worried about boat renters/testers and his campers. Sure Taney can get busy on the weekends, but I've had a lot of nice quite days on there during the week. I think we have a long ways to go before we get like CA.
  23. I also saw that boil last year and I finally found out what it was a couple months ago. That is the water intake for the City of Branson. Once in a while the push water out into the lake instead of sucking it in. This clears the algea and crud built up around the intake. Pretty earie.
