  1. I have been tying this for a few years using rabbit for big leech patterns on the White. Leave it to Leonard to come up with a great idea using the Pine Squirrel. Oh I might have come up with a new name for his show Leave it to Leonard I can see it know him and his sweater vest in the water. The way that I tie it is take the Pine Squirrel and tie in a tail then take UV Polar Chenille tie it in. Now take the pine squirrel and the UV polar chenille twist it together tightly together then take and palmer it up to the bead. tie it off. For bigger versions tie it with rabbit
  2. Hello all, I thought I would share a report with you Last night was the first time I have been down for a while our fly shop has been taking a lot of my time oh yea not to mention my wife is 4 months pregnant, so now I have a lot of work to get done at home to get ready. December 13th will be here be for we know it. OK my favorite slob and my self the second favorite slob got to Taney around 11 thinking that they would mirror the previous nights this week by shutting it down at midnight. Well unfortunately there was a plane crash on the White and they had to shut Bull Shoals down so I guess since they took BS off line they needed to get power from some where Taney it was. We pray for all the families involved. We did not start fishing until 12 am and the water level was 704.4 we quit around 2:30 and the water level was 703.6 Fished from the point down to the big hole with sinking lines Rio 24'DC 200gr sink tip. We caught about 60 fish between the 2 of us. Leonard saw me in the parking lot I was supposed to bring some hooks to him I forgot Sorry, he gave me one of his jigs and I started out with that jig because I knew if I did not I would never get it on and try it I caught 3 fish on it. I then started using some different flies that I have been wanting to try out down there at night the Olive, Black leg spreader. A Red Dr. J, and my Mohair Leeches some new colors to come out soon. (still need more testing or thats what I am telling my wife) We were casting straight down stream and stripping it back at a pretty good pace. They were knocking the fire out of it very aggressive and healthy looking fish. Nothing of size most fish were 15-18 inches long, we did catch a few small browns. Remember if you are not familiar with Taney do not wade at night if the water is on or if you do make sure some one in the group knows where he or she is located. See you all tonight. Tight lines Michael
  3. Now thats a fish, I pay homage to it every time I go out get the blessing then I will go. Yep Bman said it well give respect where it it is due not sometimes but always!
  4. Yep I hope he will post it. I have the privilege of looking at it everyday Nice Leonard
  5. Here is mine fished Taney for about 15 years at night and this was the first Brown that I caught that would weigh in over 10lbs. It was just a shy under 30 inches.
  6. Just heard there was a plane crash at Gaston's We hope and pray that no one was seriously hurt Michael

  15. After the Last 2 years of the conclave I can see some change coming. Being the chair last year I also got hit with this is how we have done it so this how we are going to do it. Well I think you all know me by now I just said screw it I'll do it my way. Being in retail I realized what the manufactures were going through and knew that is was going to be tough to get things for the auction and raffle for free, so I spent some money. I then splurged a little bit more on the keynotes. With this said we only cleared around 16,000, and that is basically what we did on the one night Auction which was the largest live auction ever, even with the time we had the auction over 2 days. I have to say I am not a fan of another event because then people will start to pick and choose which one they will attend which in the long run will run all the events thin. It would be cool if the retailer would come to Branson, but remember if you are not in the business or media you will not get in. What they need to do is have the consumer show that they have in Denver in the first part of January move to Branson. Which IMO will not compete with the local events because there not having the classes and seminars like we do. It is just the manufacture showing off there new line up for the year. I would also like to touch on the attendance. I think that people are use to seeing the same thing over and over whats the draw? We have to change things up spend some money to get big names in here. I would like to see the BBQ Thursday night move to the fair grounds have a beer garden and hire a band. Is that going happen probably not but if we have something for young people to do that will get them here I can assure you, I hear people say all the time "well I made the lap now what do I do". Most of the classes are great but most of the time they are the same thing. We have to get the young people involved so that this event does not die off. If you do have some suggestions speak up this is your conclave not the BOD of SOCFFF I will even go one more step further you may call me anytime and we can talk about what you want to see.417-889-6548 At this point we have to figure out how we can get away from having a two day event to fund all year. Remember as Mr. Stinnetti says "no mon no fun" Lets get this party rolling I cant believe we are only 6 months away from this year, It is not to late to make some changes for this year I can assure you we can change it up to the day of the event. Oh yea My wife and I have another baby on the way due first part of December. My life as I know it has come to a halt. Remember this Fish on keeps the line tight. Michael
  16. All trailers no matter what kind must carry a tag.
  17. I was out yesterday in Flat Creek Crappie fishing, had a few shorts and ended up with 12 keepers. We caught most of them on drop offs and they were in 6-9 foot of water. We had one sow looked like she was about 1 week off eggs had no blood in them. We did catch a few nice Cat fish 20-22 inch one sucker all of the Bluegill you would want and one 12 lb Carp. We were using 1/180oz gig under a float All on the 9'5wt Fly rod Here is the pic of the Carp
  18. A few years back I had a buddy of mine show me what he does, I now use it myself and set the lines up in the shop with the same system. Bend the line over it self make a loop then tie a nail knot then tie two more nail knots. You basically will end up with 3 nail knots tied in a line. put UV knot sense or use polio bond to glue. I would get a nail knot tool and practice this knot set up because it is very useful, you can even use a back to back nail knot to tie and make your own leaders and tippet set ups. I have found that this knot set up is faster than the blood knot or the uni knot. This set up will last a long time goes through the rods guide great. Good luck
  19. Hike up to the green ways trail and fish that section thats where we have been catching a lot of nice whites. Basically in that long straight stretch of water. We have had 2 limits everyday . Hope this helps. Full sink lines blue/white clousers
  20. Let me know where I can by Polarized sun glasses for 8 and sale for 150. I am pretty sure there are quite of few of us that would love to know that secret place Really send them to Smith I assure you that will take care of you. If they don't I will and I mean that. Michael
  21. I happen to like the the Sage Bluegill rod a lot, it cast the floating line that it comes with great. I also like to cast sinking lines on them 150-250 grain sink tip ist is awesome. I personally think the the Small mouth rod is to heavy for small mouth, I have sold quite a few of the Small mouth and Large mouth rods for guys going and fishing the Salt. Remember that these rods are grain weighted Blue Gill is 230 the Small mouth is 290 and the Largemouth is 330. Usually each line class is about 30-40 grains meaning that a six weight should be 180-240 grains depending on the line manufacture. Redington has a 7'10 6wt and I absolutely think it is the best bang for the buck 199 they handle a floating line great plus when you cast a sinking line it is a rocket launcher. The Ross fly Stick is a very stiff rod and matched up to the other 2 rods will not preform to the same standards it was a little tough to cast and I felt did not handle the sinking line well. The Ross only has a one year warranty on it where the Sage and Redington have a lifetime Warranty. I hope this will help. If you would like to cast all three I have them all in stock. Good luck Michael
  22. Send them in to Smith, if they do not make the style any longer they will issue you a credit for the how much they sold for. Then you pick a pair of equal or greater value. If you need any help let me know. Michael
  23. Thats to FUNNY I think my face is bright red
  24. The whites are on fire catching them all the way up to the greens way trail. Clousers Gray/white, blue/white Floating Lines with a sinking leader 12 foot 5.6 or a 150gr -200gr 24 foot sink tip fly line. Good luck Better get them be for all the rains come.
