  1. Sorry for the comedy and or drama
  2. I just got back from Play It Again Sports Store I bought there old and used golf bags that they had. As I left Jeff assked me what I was doing and I said there could be a run on these bags to hold extra rods and reels. He said whats next, a fishing caddy. I'm just joking that would be pretty funny we could even have commentators whispering behind us. Well folks we are here at the rebar hole Michael and the caddy have been talking it over I think in this situation I would go for the 3wt with a midge looks like he has decided on the 5wt. Not sure what his thoughts are oh wait he has put that rod back and decided on the 3wt. This is something new the caddy the is checking the dirrection of the wind speed, watch out that was a big rock. I'm not sure how big of a wind he thought there was,but it must be gusting pretty big to check with a rock that size. Here goes Michael with the back cast once back twice back, Oh crap he took my new hair peice off maybe we should back up a bit. Here he goes again Michael makes a great cast but did he read the drift right I think that the drift is a little off. He should have been a little more to the right oh wait here he has just minded the line and look at that midge go. Oh this could be the one I think it is oh here it goes oh, oh, oh YES he hooked up that was a huge powerfull take he better get control here goes the caddy he nets the fish what a fish. The crowd goes wild here they come to check that spot for more fish. That is pretty funny I have to much time on my hands today. Michael
  3. Those were some of huligan freind's they were going to stay and fish but one of them had to be at work at 7:00am. It was George Straight.
  4. Since I got back down there on Sunday and was able to have a great couple of days catching and releasing some nice fish I decided to go back at night. I sent the scouts out during the day to see if the fish were still up by 1, they called with the bad news I told them to find them and they did several hours later I got a phone call saying they had located the big fish and were catching them. Not so good for me, Great scouts, oh that's sounds pretty funny fishing scouts. They were actually some really good friends and I could not join them untill I closed the shop. It was slow I had 3 fish all night 2 short like 15-16" both Rainbows and I caught them after I down sized the fly back to the good old MOHAIR LEECH. How evere around 12 am I was in the rebar fishing some steelhead flies that a friend of mine form Logan Utah gave me. The one that worked was a #4 Purple Wooly Bugger With 3 pink eggs attached. I caught a 27-28 inch Brown. And that was it not much to report. I will take a pic of the fly today and see if I can get it to post. The fly is just an egg sucking woolybugger. But tied in a diffrent way not your typical egg sucking leecch. You will have to see it to understand. Michael
  5. next time dont be so rude and say hi (LOL) That was Nick and my self fishing down through the north and south bank between 2 and the rebar. Have A Happy Thanksgiving. Michael
  6. Zach We caught them on scuds, eggs, and sculpins. Sight fishing I have the full report posted under Fishing report Sunday and Monday. Michael
  7. Here are some pics from Sunday and Monday
  8. We have tied that for years and I allways wondered why we called it a sculpin. I think that it needs to be called fish slayer because when you fish it no matter how you fish it you catch day or night. Michael
  9. No much sleep I will get like that I hope that no one ever takes us serious when we talk like that(LOL) Yes I'm trying to set a world record just in a another area it called B.S. Michael
  10. I will be down Tuesday Night
  11. Murdoc I remember you comming down on the back side of the rebar sorry I did not recognize you. Glad the fishing was good for you too. I wish I would have known that was you I would have had you come up and fish with us betwwen 1 and 2. Michael
  12. Like I said that was the best 24 hours of fishing I've ever had on Taney. It will probally never happen again. I think that my wife thought I was crazy for wanting to get up early this morn and go back down. When I left the house the Temp was a balmy 19. I told her it would be the pay off day.(LOL) Who would have ever thought that I would have been right, The last 24 hours reminded me of a trip that a friend and I took down to Roaring River a couple of years ago. We had 30 fish over 6 lbs and the largest one at 12. We started taking pics of every fish because we knew that no one would belive us. You all know how fish stories are they allways get bigger never smaller.(LOL) Michael
  13. Guess what I finally found some time to go down to Taney and Fish. I fished all day Sunday with a friend of mine and decided that the fishing was so good that I would return Monday at about 3 am and fish untill 9:00am. Troy And I started off down by the rebar and that is where we fished for a couple of hours. Troy wanted to go on down to the big hole I stayed up in the rebar. All I have to say thats got to be the best 24 hour period on Taney that I have ever had. I was fishing a big scud with a big scud under. When I say big I mean big Mustad 3366 number 12 when they stop hitting those I would tie a San Juan Worm on and take back off catching fish. In the rebar yesterday there were sevral 22-27 inch fish the biggest I caught was a 25". I worked my way down to troy and caught sevral fish on a sculpin. I did have a beast on for a while we guessed him to weigh around 15lbs. I was rigged all day long with 5X Rio Fluoroflex which is 5lbs. When I lost the big fish the hook pulled loose. Troy and I would return to the rebar where I would hook a big fish about a 27-28" I would have put him on the boga to get a weight but Troy droped the net and he got away we decided that he would have probally been around ten lbs. I went up to outlet 1 to scout out for the next morn. and decided that might be a good spot. When I would return with Eric at 3:30 Monday morn we started down just from the rebar and started picking fish up on an egg sucking leech purple and black with a peach egg. We had 7-8 fish before daybreak and then we rigged up for the daytime hours and it was hot again. Eric was using a pink egg and picking up quite a few and I was using a pink egg with a scud under and picked up quite a few as well. Around 7:30 we decided to fish the big flat below outlet 1, Eric kept his egg on and I put a sculpin on. Again 5X we had 5 fish that were 7-8 pounds and several that were 18-22". With all the big fish and little ones that we caught I would say that Eric and I both caught around 60 fish 30/man. I had to open the store at 10 so we left about 9:30 am. I tryed several times to put pics on but could not get them to load up Michael
  14. I'm not sure if this is the right way to tell everyone that knows David Freeman, But he passed away Wednesday night. He was very knowledgable about fly fihsing and was well known for the inovations on White Bass Flies. The funeral will be Monday at 12:30 is at Gorman-Sharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. I have a donation box here at the shop for him, we are going to make a memeroial for him I'm not sure if we know where just yet. David was a good freind to everyone that knew him. David was the person that a lot of us would turn to when it came time for the White Bass and the Brown runs and when I would see him I knew that is was about time. He loved to share the information that he knew with everyone that would ask. I'm not quite sure how many question I asked him but belive me it was a lot but I can't remember one that he did not answer. David will be missed and remembered for the diffrence that he made in each and every one of us. Thanks for the good times!
  15. I have not fished Taney since the Two Fly for the Y which was on the 21st of October. The day after, I left for a week and landed in Craig Mt. to fish the upper Missouri. We floated 25 miles of the river in three days. The fishing was outstanding. I would say that I caught around 45-50 fish per day a lot of them were caught on streamers and in the afternoon when the wind would die down we would dry fly fish. The biggest bow on the trip was a 22" and the biggest Brown on the trip was a 23". I got back from there on Saturday the 28. I then washed all my warm clothes and exchanged the Simms Waders out for some nice camo waders and decided that the weapon of choice should be my shotgun and headed to north Missouri to a little town known as Bigelo which is close to Mound City and duck hunted. It is now Hienz 57 time or more comonly known as catch up time. It sounds like the fishing has been really good. I was wanting to come down tonight but the girls are sick so I better go home and help the wife out. Michael
  16. I just got back form Craig Montana from fishing the upper Missouri I put the flies in the mail 3-4 weeks ago. Randy Let me know if you did not get them and I will go ahead and mail some more. If you do have them and these are more just add them to the pile. Michael
  17. Well said Jim
  18. tippet7 that is very funny, :
  19. OH NO NOT THIS AGAIN!(LOL) I think this should be some real fun the second time
  20. John I just got back from Craig Montana and had a package of disco yarn on my desk from you. Thank you ver much I can't wait to tie some flies and see how it works. Again Thank You Michael
  21. Phil I think that you a great job with site and I think that there is some very good information on here. I would like to say that there is some drama but who cares that what make the site interesting. I would like to say that I have not been posting my fishing reports for 2 reasons for the past 5-6 weeks I have been very busy and been sick I think that someone has a VOODO DOLL with my face on it. And plus the fishing has been slow. I will however when I do post a report try and make it accruate and educational at the same times. I think that the forum is made up of some vetreans and some newbies and maybe that kind of enviroment may make people clash. Because the newbie thinks that the people that have fished forever are with holding information and the old guy that has fished forever just assumes the information is already known. So lets all just get along and realize that we are after the same end result CATCHING FISH AND HAVING FUN. Michael
  22. Mike came out with that on the web in 1999. Like I said the way we know the Mohair Leech today of all dubbing. The Mohair that is on the card is the way of the past in my oppinion. The one with a dubbing loop you can make fat or skinny. And Shane came up with that and now Hareline sells his original dubbing. I think that the question that was prersented in the very begining of the thread has just been answered. There are very many diffrent ways to tie certain flies, or like the old timers say there is more than one way to skin a cat. oh I just had an idea cat leeches(LOL). I would like to see a fly tying contest we just need to pick one pat and figure out who the judges will be.
  23. Of all the history of the Mohair Leech I would have to say that Shane Stalcup is the one that came up with pattern that we all now know as the Mohair Leech.
  24. one word FREE Thats all I have to say.
  25. I'm not sur if i want to get involed withany of them backwards Flippin ones(LOL)
