Last night was one of the greatest night fishing adventures that I have ever had on Taneycomo. We were not even going to go but at the last minute decided to go and it payed off. According to the scheldule they were going to shut the water off at 8pm and we had decided to get down and put the boat in and row up to the cable, and fish mice down the south bank trying to get a rise out of a large fish. Plans changed when they never shut the water off, Matt and I sat at the pavillion talking about flies and past and soon to be fishing trips. I decided to go down to the boat ramp to sit and listen to some tunes and wait for the water to shut down. As we pulled down to the boat ramp there were a couple of teenagers down at the end of the ramp, they jumped up and and eagerly got out of our way. They seemed a little embarssed but we stood and talked to them for a few minutes then decided to go ahead and launch the boat. As I was getting the boat ready to launch Matt scanned the water with his light and what a surprise; there was a big brown sitting just off the ramp. I told Matt turn his light off so we don't spook him I hurried up and changed flies from a mouse to a Meal Ticket. Matt asked if I had a chance, I said I wasn't sure but I was sure going to try. After about 20 min of squinting at the fish's silhuette being illuminated by the moon I felt a hard quick pull I set the hook and the fight was on. Up past the rock, back down to the boat ramp, out into the current twice then back up to the boat ramp. After 2 misses with the net and Matt being soaked we landed the fish about 30 yards down stream of the boat ramp. The most intense fish fight I have had in several years. I have been dedicating to fishing for big fish all summer using large flies like the mouse pattern and the Meal Ticket. I have no pics of the Meal Ticket but it is an articulated fly that is about 3-4 inches long, I tie mine in varius colors and the one that I used last night was actually tied by Matt in white and red with 2 1/0 hooks in it. I was working the water; swinging and stripping the fly right in front of the fish. I suspect that the fish just got mad and attaced the fly instead of actually eating it because it was hungry. I was using a 9' 7wt Sage TCX with a floating line Here are 2 pics of the fish 26.5 inches and 15.8 lbs Needless to say the boat never got put in so I guess you could say the bite was slow cause I had one hit one fish. I rather be lucky than good anyday of the week. Good luck see you this weekend.

Put the boat in latter than I wanted but had great conversation prior to the trip great to talk with everyone. Got the boat in the water at 3:30am drifted down to cooper creek. Lots of people on the water after the sun came out. I was very set in the way that I was going to fish, Mouse at night and Hopper after the sun came up nothing more nothing less. So as the trip began Matt was fishing the black matuka and I was slamming the banks with my mouse. Matt was catching a lot from KOA down to Andy's house I still had 0, when we got down to the bluff it was on with the mouse. Had several takers but only got 6 to the boat, Nothing big but I know I had one nice fish on and he came unbuckled at the boat hard to say but I would estimate him to be around 25-28 inches. Did see the oil slick hope they get that fixed When I fish the mouse I slam it on the bank make a huge splash then start stripping it as fast as I can then pause and then do the stripping again usally the fish will slam it on the first pause. You have to make it look as if the mouse just fell in and is swimming for it's life. After the sun came up I let Matt have the front of the boat with the hopper he caught sevral 15-18 inch fish on the hopper again making the hopper have a splash landing if they dont hit it with in 3-5 seconds re-cast. Here is a pic of the mouse it is called a Lemming Mouse by Mike Mercer Good luck see you tonight

Last Weeks Night Fishing Report
Micheal Kyle replied to Micheal Kyle's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Well crap, now that is out of the bag what will we do now:) I might have to find a new barrel:) -
Fishing has been great stripping streamers. The corp has been shuting the water down at a decent hour so I can fish just about every night and still get a couple hours of sleep befor work. We have been working the lower section over hard and it has been pay dirt. Lots of nice quality bows holding close to the banks. We have been working from the point all the way down to cooper creek at night out of the boat beating the banks with streamers. The streamers that we have had the most luck with are mohair leeches and matuka style streamers. Last night was a ghost town up top so we decided to not put the boat in and just wade around surveying the diffrent areas lots changes have occured looks like it has filled in a lot between outlet 1&3 but is a very nice dredged out hole up by the wire. After a short explore we headed down to the rocking chair to the boat ramp lots of nice healthy fish all over. Good clean water to fish. We were fishing floating lines with 6 pound tippet swinging and stripping. It was a great night no one at all except for myself and Justin. Here are 2 sweet fish we caught last night In my measure net the fish measured 25" and had a girth of 14" Again in the measure net was right at 19" but had a girth of 11" This is a Dr.J invented by Jeff(bear)Andrews on a trip down on the White about4 years ago. It is artictulated with the back hook a 2499spbl size 10-6 front hook is blood red pine squirrel. This is a black matuka style streamer tied with black pine squirrel hook is a Gamakatsu ss15 size 6-4 body is black and red chenille that I make. These 2 are the electric blue and ace of spades mohair leeches size 6-12 on a tmc streamer hook of your choice I like the 9395 Hope this helps out see you Tomorrow night Tight Lines

Last Weeks Night Fishing Report
Micheal Kyle replied to Micheal Kyle's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Well now that the secret is out everyone should start catching 5 pound plus fish every night:) Both Ricks let's hook up in the near future and catch some slimy fish:) -
Fishing has been great lots of numbers and good fat healthy rainbows. Starting to see a few more browns being caught at night. We have been putting the boat in around 10-11pm and fishing down to Point Royale, fishing till 4am on most nights. The bigger fish are cursing the banks at night and since we have been taking the boat at night we can slam the banks with streamers and catch the fish that a person would normally be flushing away by wading. Stripping big articulated mohair leeches, with no moon blood red and ace of spades have been our most productive colors. Water is in great condition and has been clearing up a lot over the past few weeks. If I knew how to up load pics from iPhone to here I would show pics of a few nice fish and the articulated leech, my main computer crashed. See you down there again tonight

When will you come down? I fish 6 pound straight from my fly line I try to keep it long Like 9-12 feet takes a little practice to learn to turn the fly over but I have found out over the years the further I can keep the fly from my fly line the more hooks up I will get. On the flies I have had many years of success on the leeches and zonkers. Purple and blood red are my favorite colors. The darker the night the darker the fly and full moon best luck on lighter colored flies like olive and white. If you can figure out your dates I would be more than happy to mail you some leech dubbing that I blend, you will not be able to find it any where except my house:). Mohair leeches are very easy to tie basically tie a tail using the dubbing then use a dubbing loop for the body I use a bead for the weight. You will want to cast out at an angle to the either the north or south bank as it is swinging down you will want to keep the line tight with a very slow strip any where from 3 to 10 inch strip let the fish dictate how fast or slow or how long or short to strip the fly. I would also fish from the outlet 3 down to Point Royale Good luck and I am serious about sending you the dubbing for free:) just need an adress Michael

We started the weekend trip to Taney Thursday night around 9pm the water was off and droping, we started fising at 10:30 and had quite a few befor midnight on the mohair leech (blood red and Ace Of spades) were the hot colors for the night. The water never dropped all the way out so we went up top to the wire and it was a fish just about every cast, again on the leechs. Lots of nice quality bows lots of 16-18 inch fish. Rus had the biggest fish he had ever caught at night down there I have no pic it is on his camera. We fished till 4am I had to work on Friday at 7am headed to work. Got of work at 6pm loaded the boat up and headed down we decided to take the boat since the water never dropped all the way out staying at the bad level at 703.4, when they shut the water off at mdnight we put the boat on the water. We rowed up stream and stayed in the middle of the river again fishing the leeches Marcus made his first cast and hooked a nice fat 18inch fish. With the boat we were able to fish both sides we worked our way down to PR and were catching fish right and left(no pun intended). By the time we had gotten down to PR I would say the 3 of us had caught around 60-70 fish. had several that were 18 inches and very fat. By the time we got down to PR the sun was comming up 56er time and that bite was hot for about 1 hour cast out as far as you can to midging fish and burn the fly back as fast as you could and wam, they were hiting it hard. Around 9:00 am we put a hopper on and started pickng fish up on them lots of fish and nicer quality fish on the hopper when it hits the water twitch the fly 2 times no fish with in 5 sec of the twitching recast. The bigger fish were holding about 3-4 feet off of the bank. We ended up at Coopper Creek at noon. Taney has been dredged out that is going to help out this fall when the big browns come up to play:) I think that it is going to be a very interresting fall and lots of nice new holes that have filled in over the years are back open deep and ready to hold the fish that they used to. Here is one pic from yesterday on the hopper Good luck and we will see you next weekend

The water is off for the first time at night in all most a month. Started fishing at about 11 fished till 4am. The three of us started at the point and worked our way down to the boat ramp. Started off very slow then around 1am the moon came up and it was on fire. We had numerus doubles and triples. We were fishing floating lines with mohair leeches and stripping it back pretty fast. When we got down by the boat ramp it was a fish just about every cast for about 2 hours. Blood red and Ace of spades were working the best for me, Marcus and Matt had also tried white and picked several fish up on white. The best fish came at about 1:30 am Marcus caught a nice fat 22inch brown on a blood red mohair leech. I would say that between the 3 of us we caught about 150 fish. Lots of nice 17-18 inchers. Good luck and see you tonight if the water is off. Here are a couple of pics. Marcus and his 22" Brown Just a nice colored 17" Brown
