  1. Yep can't miss the tug and the splash
  2. My computer is down so I will try this from my I phone. Fishing has been good they have been shutting the water off at midnight just about every night. We have had the place to our selves. Stripping streamers mostly leeches in various colors (electric blue, the money and blood red) on the wind blown nights. On the calm nights we have been tearing them up on the foam cicada that I posted in an earlier post lots of fat healthy fish. My best spot has been further down by outlet 3 down to Point Royale. I probally won't make it back down for a couple of nights . Sorry this is not my normal indepth report but it will do in a pinch:) Good luck Michael
  3. They turned water off at 11pm I had planed on fishing my foam cicada but way to windy to be effective. Fished streamers until we got blowed off the water at 12:30am. WOW what a wind storm. Caught several fish nothing big fish from point down to boat ramp. Hopefully tonight it will work for top water action on the fly. I remember the last time we had a huge cicada hatch about 15 years ago and it was awesome fishing them at night. It has really changed down there night waders be aware of your surroundings while wadding it will just drop off then back to being shallow, or at least that is down below rebar. Good luck see you tonight
  4. It is deer body hair and I get the foam at walmart
  5. Got down to Taney yesterday for the first time in a long time, My buddy Matt and I were in need of a major fishing fix. We have been glueing, cutting and tying foam flies for about month now while We work work work you know what they say "no mon no fun". We finally got to put my flies to use that we tied and what a day it was. We put the boat in about 6 am up by the dam and floated to cooper creek. I fished a streamer for a few minutes with no avail except for one fish on a pink/purple clouser. We then started to fish a cicada and started picking fish up almost immeaditly. The fly would hit the water twitch it 2-3 times no fish cast again. Caught sevral nice fat 16"-18" inch fish on the cicada and lot of small ones. When we got to cooper creek I made a phone call to make sure I could stay and fish the boss lady said I could so we floated it again. When we put back in there were cicadas all over the water you could watch the cicada float down and get eaten. The fish on the second float were hanging out off the bank about 20 feet. We were just letting the big foam flies just drift no movement this go around and they just smashed them. Lots of nice fish the second float of the day. I did catch one nice 23 inch bow, on the cicada. You had better put a foam fly or two in your box .I would say all together we had right at 50 fish to the boat on the cicada, but whos counting Here are some pics Good luck and have fun see you next weekend:) Michael
  6. Must be
  7. We had a bad streak glad we had a tin of tobacco some hippy hay and the rv and my Jon boat on the gravel bar
  8. Catching smallmouth, rainbow trout and gar, glad we had our 12 inch 3 speed ocilating fan to keep us cool.
  9. Like every one has said it all depends on water flow and levels. I have caught some good whites all the way up by the power plant in Springfield in flood years. But a really good spot for me when the action slows down in the galena area is at the mouth of the Finnely where it meets the James. I have caught quite a few whites there. If the river comes way up with the rain we got last night it might just be a good spot in a week. I would also be looking at flat creek that is a great creek too.
  10. Yep was a good time and great food for sure, I wonder how the walk back over was for a few sleepers:) I would agree on the slow bite we also had 15 between the 2 of us. Had lots of nice sows in the aggregate Should be a good night tonight to stand on a gravel bar during a storm:) let's do it again soon.
  11. There really is not that many that know the night time is the right time, I have been fishing at night for years though. Less people means less pressure and I can fish my spots with out worrying about people fishing in my back pocket. A lot of nights we are the only people on the river. Give it a try you will be hooked.
  12. Obviously the fish do not care:)
  13. Fished again last night started at 9:30 had 2 limits by 10:30 then it was like someone flipped the switch to off. Seemed like the water got a little warmer and was coming up. When I got home looked and the cfs went from 880-1200. Lots of fish still by blunks getting smaller in size everynight need to venture up stream to find the bigger ones. Sounds like they are hammering fish up where Wilson creek comes into the James. Good luck see you all tonight
  14. Awesome pics can't miss my boat it the funny looking one that is orange if you see it on the bank never hesitate to say hI and have a cold beverage with us:)
  15. Fished last night and it was awesome water level is low but flow is good fish in the current swinging flies into slack water. Moon set around 11:30 and that is when it turned on had 3 limits by 12:45am . The 3 of us caught several nice sows. Chartreuse/white clouser on a 10 foot sinking leader
  16. It was low around 1050cfs just looked at water flow looks like the James is running at about 2600. If it does warm back up mid week it will be on like donkey kong:)
  17. Should have come up today and caught some in the snow:)
  18. Thanks Rick we had a great time and can't wait to get back up there.
  19. I decided to venture out last night to the James to see if we could catch some cold front Whites. Fished from 9:30pm - 1:00am, it was a slow night ended up with just six. We went up above taylor shoal saw very few Whites, went back down and fished right across from the boat ramp and picked up 2 more purple clousers were the color of choice. I caught no fish on the strip all fish were cuaght in the deeper water on the swing. With this cold rain and cold air temps I am sure the fish have retretaed back down stream around Mcords down to longs camp area. When the water clears back up and the air temps come back there hopfully will be more Whites up stream than what was there last week. See you all in a few days Good luck
  20. Yep & I had a good teacher too
  21. yep thats why I put the junky prop back on this time of year cause you never know when you might need to dredge a shoal out:) Here is a pic from last night
  22. No I have 6 hp prop we have to drag and push the boat through the shoal right up from the ramp. Seems like the shoal has filled in over the past few years. I guess that what happens when we have floods every year.
  23. You are welcome if you don't mind I will just add how we did here. Matt & I were able to finally put our boat in around 9 it was crowded. When we started the bite was hot then died caught 8 fish with in the first 30 min. Then I could not buy a bite:) I decided to move up to Taylor shoal that was a good decision caught nice males and a few sows. We ended up fishing till 2am and brought 2 limits home. I caught quite a few fish on the swing and I had the same set up as Duane had. Good luck be back tonight
  24. Go to Galena go up to square turn right on 248 follow to blunk road go left follow to river. Any from boat ramp all they way up to next shoal is awesome. The walk up to the next shoal is a ways I would not drive my truck up there. It will be busy and with a kayak you will need to watch out for the jet boats that run full tilt.
  25. I guess I should learn to count:) Thanks for putting the pic up I can't do it from my iPhone on the forum We will be there don't be late plan on seeing the sun come up
