The water has droped out a lot running right at 1400 cfs. Water temps are up to 61 We have been catching a lot of whites from blunks up to Taylor shoal. Fish the seams the fish are all over the banks right where the slow water meets the fast I have had my best luck with a floating line and a 10 foot sinking leader with 5 foot of tippet. Chartreuse and white clousers have been the choice I did see several gar last night between blunk and Taylor Fish are in spawn mode but remember not all fish spawn at the same time so you can always go down and stay after it and have a limit. Good luck See you tonight Michael

No eyes yet I am sure they are there though!!!! As always lots of music we found that the Whites like Big Smirh the best:)

We have been out the last 3 nights putting in at Blunk around 10pm fishing until 3am the water was running at 3700 cfs when we started and has droped out fast to about 2200 cfs. The water is off colored but clearing up fast and the water temp at Blunk has been huvering around 53-55. The Whites that we have been catching have been right at 15-16 inches from the clay banks back up to the bend up at blunk. Stripping clousers chartruse and white and pink and purple have been our two best colors. Fishing a 150gr 24' sink tip if they quit taking it on the strip tight line it in the seam between the fast and slow water We did catch quite a few females last night they are in spawn mode with fish dancing all over the top of the water. With the full moon this weekend it will only get hotter. Good luck Michael

We went up to our farm today and got one bird then decided to hook up to the boat and go over to Taylor bridge. Went up stream to the clay bank and S curve area caught quite a few nice sows on blue/white and chratruse/white clousers. Water looked to be in good shape was pretty clear too. 15 foot sinking tip worked best. We had 2 limits by 3 good luck Michael

Got down to Blunks last night about 9pm still crowded. Put the old clackacraft in and motored down to McCords. I was not sure how the night would be since the MDC was down the night before shocking. Water Temp was 56 when we put in. Glad it was windy that really helped it rebound. The fish bite really did not pick up until the 12 O'clock hour, but when they did it was a fish every cast. It had been a slow night so as we were motoring up with the lights on when we came across a flat that was loaded with Walleye and some BIG Walleye. I would guess some of them to be 28 inches or better. When the Walleye scattered because of the lights the flat was loaded with Whites and nice ones. I motored up past them set the anchor and stated fishing we were done by 2am. Out of the 2 limits there were only 11 females. They were some nice Whites 15-17 inch avg. Floating fly line with a 12 foot sinking leader stripping it very slow. Chartreuse/White was the best color. We have also determined that the fish like Johnny Cash better than Willie. That is also when the bite picked we switched Cd's Michael

Fly Fishing On The James During A Thunderstorm
Micheal Kyle replied to duckydoty's topic in Table Rock Lake
We fished until 1:00am, Lots of dink males. The water temp had fallen down to 49 when I took it at 12:00am The bite was a slow one. Just letting it sit on the bottom not moving the fly they would come over and pick it up. If you moved the fly you might as well re-cast. Should be a very interresting weekend. On a side note looks like we have a lot of 2 old fish this year I really think that the floods in the past 2 years have helped the spawn and now we have a huge amount of fish. I cleaned 29 fish the other night and only 5 were females so it is only going to get better. If we can get some rain and temps back into the 50-60 next weekend should be the hot one. Good Luck. Russ and Duane you should have stayed and seen the herd of deer that came across the river I bet there was 20-30 deer. -
Fly Fishing On The James During A Thunderstorm
Micheal Kyle replied to duckydoty's topic in Table Rock Lake
Yes it is hot, Wished I had one of those leaders last night too so I could catch a bunch of Whites but I did manage 5 shy of a limit. However I was using a 24ft 150gr Rio DC Sinking tip. That was putting it right where the Walleye wanted it. Caught several nice ones last night. Grey/White Clouser Had a good time last night Duane I will see you tonight. I Still cant belive everyone left befor the storm we just beached the boat on the gravel bar and stood with our backs to rain. Every now and then our hair would stand up but after 45min it passed and then it was hot. I even heard a faint sound that sounded like Wille DID YOU SEE THAT, NO, WELL THEN YOU MISSED IT -
Wading Boots
Micheal Kyle replied to Doc Dave's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
This is a great topic to me there are to very important pieces of equipment to a wade fisherman first and for most is the wader then next is the shoe to go with the waders. If your wet you will continue to fish but if you are wet and your feet hurt you will stop fishing. So maybe the boot should be placed on top priority. I have every pair of boots that is mentioned in this thread and have wore them religiously trying to decide which I love the most. Korkers I liked at the start but within 1 month they were splitting out up in the toe area I was told by Korkers that was because the boot was too small for my feet I wear a 10 in a regular shoe and my wading boots I always go up 2 sizes to accommodate for heavy socks and the 5mm neoprene boot on most waders. I told them this and all they say was send us the boot and we will take care of this problem. Also after a a few trips the patented removable sole that has a button on the back to keep it in place had stretched enough that the sole would not stay in the grooves. Over all great customer service, bad made boots. the 2 boots that I have are the guide and the Stream born. Next is Chota it has the widest toe box on the market next to Simms they both fit up to a EEE in width, they last I have the STL plus and the Citico Creek. They are light weight and have the quick lace system that I really like and they will hold up to the guy that only wades a few times a year. I am pretty sure that I still have my original pair of the STL Plus and they are going on their 8th year I have also put 3 set of studs in them Great boot for the money. Plus the Bryant's do a great job of Customer Service if something happen to the boot send it back and they will fix them and have them back to you in about 2 weeks BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK All I have to say about Cloudveil is I should have not bought them light weight but crap the soles came off within 3 trips. Stay away from them. Plus in all of the vibram soles you had better put studs in or you will be fishing on your back:) and that is not any fun. Next is the Beast Simms what a boot yes they are heavy but that means they are well built and built to last. I bought my first pair of guide boots 9 years ago I have to get them wet to be able to get them go on but absolutely nothing has been done to them except for shoe strings. I love the river shed and the guide boot they are the best boot ever yes they are heavy but they are wide and fit very comfortable. They will LAST that is the main thing, If you are on a budget which 99% of us are I would look at the Simms Freestone or the River shed in the vibram sole and put studs in it. 99-169. I would go with either SIMMS or Chota if you are going to go with Simms go get them now they underestimated their delivery and are running a little short there might be a bounty on them latter in the season. Hopes this helps Michael -

Rio Fly Line - On Sale, Don't Pay $70
Micheal Kyle replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
[ If you want to complain about how hard it is for small-business owners these days, I suggest you start pointing your finger at giant corporations like Wal-Mart, and more specifically in your old business, Cabalas and BPS, because they are the problem, not a guy with a case of fly line he bought at wholesale prices and is trying to turn a few bucks profit. No one is claiming you're a bad guy MK, I just think some of us caught a whiff of entitlement in your post. And in this dog-eat-dog economy, putting food on the table is all that matters for many, and loyalty is thrown out the window. I have complained enough about the big box and people that know me know where I stand on that issue. I just felt that the title of this thread was a direct blow to the fly shops Rio Fly Line - On Sale, Don't Pay $70 I feel that we are starting to beat a dead horse Good luck to Brian and his venture in his fly lines I am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the potI am Sorry for stirring the pot OK enough of that I will only if you will drink it with me. Rio Fly Line - On Sale, Don't Pay $70

I was called by a Friend this morning to tell me to read this thread he asked me what I thought about it the responses. These are my thoughts, My wife and I have healthy family and are very happy with what we have done over the past 6 years. I can get up every morning and look my self in the mirror and smile and feel good about myself. I am a accomplished angler and that breeds jealousy I really could care less what people think of me. People that know me know my ways and they know that I do not hold back. If you do not like me then it is your loss. Remember their are two sides to every story!!!! We took a fly shop that was in trouble bought it and turned it into a respectable fly shop. Yes there were several things that I did not know when I bought the fly shop some of it was gear some was fly tying some of it involved casting. I took the bull by the horns and learned and I always gave credit where credit is due for the fly tying Jim Murphy, Steve Jensen and our late friend David Freeman taught me a lot. On the gear side I just studied the books and tested a lot of gear that was out there so that we could sale the best gear that would last (for your pleasure. On the casting side I can remember standing out in the parking lot on night right after we bought the shop with Rodney Edwards and Mike Kromry they helped me on my casting. The one hurdle that I was never to able overcome with some people was my age I was 27 when my wife and I bought the shop, living the American Dream. As a retail business owner I realized very quickly that no matter what I did you can and will not make everyone happy. But I did put 110% into trying. I am a fun guy especially in the river I like to catch fish and I also like to teach people how to do it better. I am sure there are plenty of people on here that know a few of my secrets. I like music I like to drink a fews beers and I am just positive that has offended a few of you on the water. but I always maintain and never get out of line and I bet you if you were to say hi to me I would say hi back. AS far as this post I am and will be a firm believer in the SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS no matter what they are selling. I assure you if you guys walk a few steps in the owners foot steps you will understand. When you buy a product form them there is a lot of value with it other than just the price. They know the product in and out not saying Brian does not know either but, you own a fly shop you just got a new new shipment of gear you put it on the rack for the MSRP then you find out that some one just found a deal and is undercutting your price. Then you sit on the product for 60 days invoice is due now and you have not sold the product because you got undercut. BELIEVE ME IT HAPPENS. Then when you open your mail there is a letter from FAR BANK who owns Sage and Rio and they president says if you get caught discounting they will no longer sell you their product. I will be happy to scan the letter that went to all fly shops in this area. I probably should have been more tactfull with my original post but I was not, so take me to the gallows. Sell away Brian I hope you make a fortune. I would have never made the post if we still owned the fly shop. I would also like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone that supported my Wife and I when we owned BCO. Good luck to the new owners Tim and Becky Fowkes. Peace Out Michael -

Rio Fly Line - On Sale, Don't Pay $70
Micheal Kyle replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
Interesting!!!!!! Black Market Fly lines. It really does not matter to me but I would like to raise this question. I used to have to bite my tongue on here because of our shop I do not have to do so any more. Why are there people out here that do not want fly shops to make any money and would want to undercut. My wife and I have just sold our for profit fly shop that is how we made our living. It makes me mad even to this day that their are people out there that think it is ok to sale out of their trunk. Their are 7 fly shops in this area that can use your money more than someone that is selling out their trunk. The fly shop owners have taken the step and made the investment some of the shops you will like and some you will not, but support some one that is doing it the right way. I bet if you walked into one of the fly shops and asked for a deal they will give it to you. Thats the glory of owning your own shop do what you want. Yes the manufacture sets the price and they all should be sold the at the same price. At least they are getting the sale and can pay the bank. So that they can keep their doors open so that you can call and ask any question about fishing, fly tying, gear what ever you want to ask. What if something happens to the product that you just bought out the trunk how are you going to prove where you bought the product. Most of the manufactures will repair or replace in the first 6 months of use no matter what the product is but it has to be accompanied by a receipt from a dealer. This even goes for rods now they have a limited Lifetime Warranty bust must have receipt where you bought it plus the warranty card must be on file with the manufacture. All I am asking is that we support our local Fly shops in this tough economic times. -

Awesome glad to see you on here should be real fun. Wish I could have come down and hunted but snow days with 6 and 3 old and a new baby and one parent don't match up. Basically what I am saying I found my life easier when I stay at home and help out on those days.
