HUH???? You mean that cable up in the air?? If not....what cable?? I don't think I've seen that in all the years I've been coming down there......and if I thought it could have been done....I'd have tried it. griffin

griffin replied to polock's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Now wait a minute there rainbow.......I belong to this site and I PROMISE that I can post like a moron better then some ole polock. I don't get over here much.......but don't make me start putting noogies on your head....'cause I will....just for fun. griffin -
loo10 - as a show of appreciation for your obviously untreated or unmedicated shizophrenia, I now move that we change your user name to looloo in honor of your posts on this thread. Carry on. griffin

Little Red below Greers Ferry in Arkansas....alot of the same type of habitat, but with much deeper holes in the wadable area (much longer stretch of wadable water too). BIG browns there as well. griffin

These fish that don't make it......do ya'll take it home and eat it or just leave it? I guess it's less then ideal to have the fish die if you had no intention of eating it or putting it on your wall.....but once that sucker is dead....it's just meat. And yeah.....I've heard how terrible the bigs ones are to eat....but that's only because you fellas spent all your money on Orvis gear and nobody taught you how to use a smoker. BTW - nice fish....congratulations!! griffin

Welp, there goes the argument that you don't learn anything on these forums. It never occured to me to use a gun patch.........thanks for the pattern. I'm gonna tie some up for my next trip down. As for the buying of trout fillets in a grocery store....nobody gets mad if you do that so it ain't near as much fun. griffin

Since shuffling is done primarily by people using flyrods wouldn't it just be easier to outlaw the flyrods? griffin

Naw - just having a loooong night at work Phil. It somehow helps me keep things in perspective when I see people getting upset about fishing methods after we scrape half a family off the highway......seems like those fishing worrying people need more grief in their lives to even things out with the folks who really do have something to be upset about. griffin

You see there....that's the whole rub in this deal. Bubba trumps Holier then Thou every darn time. griffin
-
The only thing I can really say about this topic is that if you shuffle, then snag a 4 or 5 lb. fish, then keep it......you'll likely be hung in the public square by a mob of folks chanting incantations from the "Good Book of Holier Then Thou Fishermen". griffin
-
I think you should get into a fistfight with them because they are not fishing in a legal method that you agree with. If you're not comfortable with that then maybe carry a big ole stick and wack 'em in the head when you see 'em. darn shufflers.....the end of civilization I say! griffin

Personally, I think shuffling ranks right there with stuffing your spouse in a wood chipper. griffin

I don't believe releasing really stupid fish is good for the gene pool. griffin

Now you done it jscheetz, you've forced me to break out my best fish eating story. When my son, Griffin, was 2 1/2 I had him out on his first walleye/sauger fishing day below a spillway over this way. We had stopped at the bait store on the way and picked up 4 dozen minnows, which Grif always has to be in charge of. The gal at the shop always let him scoop his own, and he'd put them on the floor of the truck in front of him and watch them on the way to the river. So we're out there fishing, vertical fishing 1 oz. jigs off the bottom as we drift, bow upstream with me running the trolling motor. Obviosly, at his age, he's having a tough time telling the difference between a bite and the bottom so he needs a new minnow about every 10 or 15 minutes. He only lasts about an hour or so before he wants to start casting, so I tie a big ole Rat-L-Trap on his rig and he commences to thrash the water. He's happy as he can be slinging that lure and I'm content to just drift along bouncing my jig. After a while, I realize that I ain't really been paying much attention to him and he's gotten quiet. I look back and he's messing with the minnow bucket like he always did, dipping a few out, checking them over, and putting them back in the bucket. I go back to fishing and in a bit I need a minnow. I look back and say, "Grif, whatcha doing?". Little dude mumbles, "nothing". I say, "gimme a minnow"......and he doesn't turn around....he's just sitting there over the bucket with his back to me. I climb down off the front deck and walk back to get a minnow and when I look in the bucket there is only a handful of minnows. I look at the little goof and he's just kind of staring at me. I say, "where'd all the minnows go?" he just kind of shrugs his shoulders and says, "mmm mmmmm mmm" in the same cadence as "I don't know". Now it dawns on me what he's doing and I say, "ARE YOU EATING THOSE MINNOWS????" He starts to grin and when he does I can see little scales running out of the corner of him mouth!!! I say, "darn GRIF!!! DID YOU EAT ALL THOSE MINNOWS????" He breaks into a full blown grin and says, "they're good". We both busted up laughing. I bet that kid ate a couple dozen minnows. So don't be telling me about eating raw fish.....it ain't nothing for us. griffin

My kid likes his fish on his wall....next year he'll most likely add a 20+ lb. salmon to his collection. It's better that way......the kid is so ugly that he'd ruin most pictures of him with fish. AND.........if you think that we've somehow moved past the point in civilization where self assuredness for an 8 year old boy can't be enhanced by prowess in the woods and on the water, including cleaning and eating his catch/kill....then you need to play catch and release with your head and remove it from your...........uh......................net. griffin

The best part about that is that everyone also has a right to disagree with a view and a right to their disagreement of the view, along with their right to express their disagreeing view to those people with whom they disagree with......or not. What a country!!! griffin

You've also denied your stepson the self-assuredness that comes from eating a meal made from a fish or animal that he caught or killed. The confidence that comes from knowing that, if necessary, you could survive. To me, it absolutely essential that my children know that food doesn't come from a grocery store. In fact, if I were king, ALL children would have to learn that by catching, killing, and eating the fish and game that they took. My son was barely 3 years old....we were eating a pot roast at the in-laws house.....he looks at his grandma and said, "who killed this meat?". Do your kids a favor......catch a fish, kill a duck, a deer, or an elephant.....gut it and skin it in front of them, let them help you, prepare it for cooking, let them help you, cook it and eat it....and be happy and proud that you have children who understand a food chain, and where the meat we eat comes from, and why hunting and fishing are important to us....because somewhere there is a parent telling their children that killing fish and animals is wrong, and that they should work to end hunting and fishing...and they will if you don't remember why we fish and hunt. Fish are food......get over it....some of you sound like you could work for PETA. griffin

I don't keep big fish because they don't taste good....BUT....I've got an extra deep freeze FILLED with fillets that we will eat at duck camp this year. There is sauger, bass, white bass, bluegill, trout, catfish and crappie in my freezer....and we'll eat every last one of them. THEN......I'll take every duck I can get my hands on and have it made into sausage sticks that we eat when we are fishing. Fish die so we can eat while we hunt....ducks die so we can eat while we fish.....I like it that way....and I'll be at it until I can't walk anymore. BTW - my 8 year old son has a 4.5 smallie and a 7.8 largemouth on his wall, and a 9 lb. Northern at the taxidermist. One day....right out of Taneycomo, he'll catch a 5lb. plus trout...either Brown or Rainbow....and when he does it'll go on his wall too. He likes them there....it reminds him of good times with his dad and how much fishing is better then 1000 other things he could be doing...so I like them there too. And if he catches a big fish and turns to me and says, "dad, can we eat him"...I say...."SURE!!!" He gets extra enjoyment out of eating a fish he caught....and I'm not about to tell him which ones are OK with some folks if he does....he caught it, he can eat it. I guess one day he'll be happy to let a few go himself....but he'll get there like the rest of us...because he earned it, not because someone thought they knew better. By the way.....I don't hunt just to watch the sunrise either....I found out a few years ago that it rises even if I stay in bed.....too bad ducks don't die and pile up in my freezer even if I'm asleep. griffin

Ya'll sure have become high strung over here. Nice fish!!! jOrOb - what's with the 'tude?? Can't a man be a catch and eat zealot to counteract the C&R zealots? And what about the zealots of advocates??? For the record.....I much prefer C&R Nazis....it just sounds better. griffin

I haven't been able to get to this board in a while.....but the first two threads I read are some guys arguing about giving out info and whether or not a guy counts the fish he catches in 6 hours. All I have to say is that yesterday I caught 73 bass in 4 hours .738 of a mile from the entrance to Bull Creek at the second rock off the third lilly pad to the left of the forked tree. Carry on. griffin

Brian - since you have restated that you think the guy should have gotten a ticket......I'd like to know for what?? From your post, you had every opportunity to warn the guy and even help him get off the island before the situation got out of hand.....I'd say you deserve a ticket more then he does. The water wouldn't have had to be shut down if you weren't so busy being a smart guy. And the MDC/Water Patrol wasn't late....they got there when they were called....what was late was the call for help from someone who knew the situation was going to get dangerous for the guy on the island. I spend alot of time on the Missouri and Mississippi river in the winter....alot of times when those rivers are at flood stage....those of us out there count on each other for help if we get in trouble.....and there's a 1000 ways for it to happen, and no one laughs, because it ain't funny. I'm glad I've never met anyone like you out on those rivers....we don't need you. griffin

crappiefisherman - If you think I'm bitter, you're going to have to try again. After all these years I still think the most of people, and enjoy each day I get to work with them........I just get a kick out of folks who cry that Law Enforcement "doesn't do anything". What we do, 90% of the time, is RESPOND to take a report and then try to solve a crime. It's very rare, but the ultimate reward, when we actually prevent a crime.....it's the nature of the beast...we play by rules, criminals don't...I don't mind that. In fact, it has to be that way. Still, we usually get the last laugh. Bitter is for the guys going to jail, not the guys who go home to hunt and fish with their kids....you can tell us apart by the laughing and smiling we do vs. the crying and whining they do. If you truly want your pet resource to be protected, then there is no way except to become involved. As far as a fisherman breaking the law......if you can't figure out how to make that guy feel like he's about 2 inches tall, and stop what he's doing, then that guys out of your league....and he's not even in the game. No, I'm not advocating fighting over a fish......but there's more then one way to skin that cat....and they're all alot more fun then whining about it. griffin Blue Cat - we agree. You want to really see some dumb regs and laws.....go duck hunting. griffin
-
I've been in Law Enforcement for 18 years. I'd advise against confronting an armed robber....but I'd call you a coward (and it'd fit) if you didn't confront a rapist in the act of committing his crime. I wouldn't suggest that you try to stop a guy on a shooting spree without some help, but I'd call you a useless member of society if you didn't intervene while you saw someone trying to break into a car, or leaving the scene of an accident. Care to guess where I stand on confronting a guy keeping too many fish??? Good Lord.......please be sure not to offend the guy with the fishing pole.  What you're talking about here are people who don't care about the same things you care about....the things your father and grandfather tried to hold over for you. It really is up to you, there is no way on this planet that a Conservation agent, as dedicated as almost all of them are, can keep up with the constant stream of violations of game laws. I'm not talking about the guy who makes an honest mistake....he's not a law breaker. I'm talking about the guy who just doesn't care that his kid has a chance at a trophy fish. I'm not going to argue this.....but if you are the type that thinks it's best not to get involved...then you best NEVER complain about Law Enforcement not doing enough. griffin

Me and my dad are coming down to see you in about two weeks. We have to bring my mom and my twin sisters with us. My sisters look just alike. They are Brooke and Lauren but for the week that we are there I like to call them "shut up and get out of the boat". Lauren usually does, but Brooke is mean as a snake and tries to hook me with her Zebco 33 loaded with a big glob of some stinky stuff that my dad gave her to hope that she'd quit, but she never does. My dad just laughs but it's really not funny. I'm going to fish every minute I can except for the 4th of July when we go somewhere to watch some big fireworks. I'd like to stay closer to your place, but my dad calls your resort "the place that is about to burn to the ground" on that night. My grandma and grandpa are coming with us too. I have no idea why my dad calls the trip a "three ring circus" since I never see any elephants or monkeys or anything, except that we met some people there the last few years and one of them has a daughter who has become our babysitter at home. My dad says it's neat that we have become friends with the people who stay there the same time as us every year, but I wish we would have met some people with a babysitter daughter who let us tear up the house more. See you in two weeks. Griffin
