  1. Excellent! Thanks for the pointers, I have a better idea of what I need to get
  2. I had thought about a 14 but wondered if it was overkill for 1 guy. I've looked at used ones but haven't seen much I like. Not sure if a 40 is more stable than a 36 or if I need to go wider....I do know the 36 I was in was a bit too tipsy.
  3. Searched around and didn't see a previous post. I'm looking at picking up a Lowe 1240 or 1040. My question is what size outboard do you all use or recommend? Mostly going to use it up and down the James around Galena which can run at a pretty good clip sometimes. I'm sure the simple answer is the biggest the boat will handle but if I don't need something that big I'd rather save the $$. I I'll be fishing by myself and here are some specs 1240 (10hp max) - 107 lbs 1040 (5hp max) - 87 lbs Me - 220 lbs Whatever a gas tank, battery and minor amount of tackle will weigh Thanks for any guidance you can give me! Jason
  4. You guys fishing during the day or night?
  5. I left the lake around 930 tonight, i was near the pothole. No luck for walleye, or any other fish for that matter. It seemed like the lake was going down, I got there at around 630 and when I left you could see on the rock bank where the water had been. for the 3 hours i was there, all along the bank you could tell the water had dropped i would say app. 5 inches down the rock.
  6. Well I can say that this guy has lost potential business. I don't have a boat...always just fished from the bank, and I had thought about renting one this spring just for a change of pace, but the K-dock won't be the place I go. I think I'd rather just keep fishing from the bank!!!
  7. Thanks...that was pretty interesting, I guess you're right, they have the money, now lets just see how well they use it.....only time will tell
  8. Don't know how far you want to drive but here are a couple of places that have chains One is Noblett Lake, they say its not unusual to find them over 2 feet. Noblett lake is near my old stomping grounds in Douglas county. the other place is Sims Valley Lake, which is over near Willow Springs. I'm sure you could find more info on the MDC website, but both lakes aren't that far from each other.
  9. I've always heard that you shouldn't eat the fish from Springfield lake, and part of the James river below it, but in another blog I saw a guy say that the fish he caught he was going to eat. So whats the verdict, eat or not to eat?
  10. I've fished Bulls Shoals from several years, but now I want to get into trout. I've tried it once before, near the Powersite dam in Forsyth....but no luck! Are there any areas that are easy to get to and that will offer a good chance of catching fish? I'll be on the bank/wading, and all I have is regular spinning gear, no fly rods. And I have no clue where to start
