  1. I fished for a couple of hours last night above twin bridges and caught five on a fly rod fishing a chart. clouser. Water temp still seemed cool and did not see any surface action at sunset... we should be getting close... Larry
  2. I floated the stretch of Indian Creek from Anderson to Lanigan last summer and there was a huge log jam about a mile above the park that we had to portage around (it seemed like several hundred yards). Does anyone know if the creek has been opened up? I was wondering about parking at the low-water bridge above the park and leaving a vehicle there but was not sure if it was considered a "public access". Any suggestions would be appreciated. Larry
  3. I saw a couple of big boats that had come up from 412 Bridge but mostly smaller john type boats at twin bridges put in. I tried to go up from twin bridges and it is very skinny there. There a couple of gravel bars below twin that are skinny but passable... The water is pretty much at the level of three or four years ago.... Larry
  4. I fished tonight above twin bridges for a little while before dark. The story from the anglers and boats I talked with was about the same... fish are spotty with more small males than anything else. Talked to one guy that had largemouth, whites, and a walleye all on a white crankbait. The water temp is on the rise and it could turn on most any time.... Larry
  5. Man was there a big crowd today.... I spent the majority of the time wading the C&R area where it was a little less crowded. I did best on mini-sculpin but caught some fish on top on a crackleback and a zebra midge in the afternoon. Tim thanks for the report, the water was fine.... Larry
  6. I fished above the MDC boat ramp and caught fish on most everything that I threw mid-day. Started stripping a pine squirrel sculpin and a black/olive wooly and did well. Did best with a small tan scud below a 16 zebra midge under an indicator. There were a lot of people out this afternoon, but everyone seemed to be doing well.
  7. Thanks, I will try to stop by the shop and/or post a report.
  8. I am off on Monday and was planning to come down for a day of fishing but am concerned about the water after the rain? Any suggestions on flies etc. with these conditions? Larry
  9. I beleive this fly was originated by Mike McClellan and Todd Moncrief from McFly Shop in Fayetteville. There is an article on their website but here is the recipe. Larry Crazy Dad by Todd Moncrief www.mcflyshop.com The Crazy Dad is our most popular (read: best-selling) smallmouth fly and one of the most requested patterns for impromptu tying tutorials at the shop, so it's only natural that it debuts what will hopefully be a regular series of online tutorials. What makes the Crazy Dad such a great fly? It's easy to tie for tyers and inexpensive for buyers. It sinks quickly but is easy to cast, and rides hook-up for no snags. It wiggles and breathes, comes in many different colors, and is very durable. And it catches fish! Materials Hook: TMC 200R #4-#8 Thread: 6/0 or 140d, color to match Eyes/Weight: Brass Hourglass Eyes, med through x-small Body: Sparkle Leech Dubbing or Wapsi Crawdub Legs: Sili Legs Wing: Bucktail, kiptail, or deer hair Tools: The only uncommon tool used here is the Dyna-King Dubbing Whirl. You can get by without one, but your flies will not look as good nor fish as well, and the Crazy Dad will not be as easy to tie as advertised, which is one of its strong suits. A true rotary vise is also very helpful.
  10. Tim, I am scheduled out of the office on Weds. and really NEED to go fishing. Do you think the water will come down enough to be fishable? I assume San Juan Worms, eggs, and big wooly's would be the best bet? I don't want to keep any fish, so would you recommend fishing the C&R area? Any guidance would be appreciated.... Larry
  11. We fished the Norfork on Sunday and Monday morning on the typical of late high water conditions from a boat. They cut the generation some at night but ran two generators all day on Sunday and Monday. The fish seemed to be getting accustomed to the high water conditions and seem to feed better in the morning for us. We caught fish on traditional high water riggings including San Juan worms, and egg patterns. I fished some streamers in the lower light conditions and did ok though nothing spectacular. Big fish of the weekend was a 19.5" rainbow and had a grandslam on Saturday with a one Brooke by the dam and three or four Cuts from the catch and release area, but most of our fish were Rainbows with a few Browns to keep things interesting. The fish were fat and healthy, remembrances from the Norfork of old, just not the quanties for us on high water. Larry
  12. Yes, we put in behind Caseys...What is the next access above Anderson? I've only fished the creek a couple of times, so Im just trying to figure out some options.... Larry
  13. Thanks Ollie, that was the bridge that I was talking about... Just trying to figure a way around the 300 yard portage to get to the park at Lanagan. What is the best take out above Lanagan?
  14. Trophy... we fished the same stretch from Casey's to Lanangan on Thursday and had a similar trip with lots of smallies, nothing over 15". When we got to the logjam we decided to paddle back up to the low water bridge as it was getting dark vs. a 300 yard portage. Can you park at the bridge and take out there to avoid the log jam? Larry
  15. The Kings is known to come up quickly and sometimes without notice. We put in at the 62 bridge one afternoon for a float to Grandview. there was a flash Tstorm near Huntsville and when we got back to the 62 Bridge the truck was almost under water. Larry
  16. We tried to float from Anderson down to Lanagan Park and had to portage a couple of times around fallen trees. However, about a half mile below the lowwater bridge above Lanagan we ran into a huge log jam. It was getting dark so instead of a long portage (it looked like 100 yds plus) we went back up to the low water bridge and took out there. Same story with good numbers of fish but no big fish. Caught several on a fly rod with a clouser that was pretty fun. Larry
  17. When the water returns to normal flow jig fishing is one of the most productive methods of consistently catching trout. With normal 2-4 units a 1/16 jig in white, black or olive is hard to beat day in and day out. Use light line 4-6# and a light action rod. It is a blast. Larry
  18. Tim, thanks for the help yesterday at the shop. We fished pine squirrel sculpins in the C&R area, as well as eggs worms with a nymph trailer. We did ok for the conditions. About the time the river began to clear around lunch it rained again big time.... I tied some bettles with a peacock back last night and will be back when the water clears. Larry

    White Bass

I fished the white for a little while last night before the lightning ran me off. Fished between Walker's Bluff and the Twin Bridges. Caught mainly small males but the fish are definately on the move. The water color was still pretty stained, and it may be worse today with the Madison Co. thunderstorms last night... Larry
  20. The pictures are really neat. Thanks for providing. Larry
  21. I very flexible as well. I do appreciate you enduring the hassle to host this swap. Larry
  22. I've been out of town and just now getting back to my computer. I got my flies and they look great. Thanks again for hosting. Larry
  23. Jason, I got mine in the mail to you today, hoping to avoid the holiday rush! Larry
  24. I got mine in the mail to you today... I wanted to avoid the holiday rush... Larry
  25. I was wondering if anyone had a recipe for the R&R fly? I've tried to google but have not been able to find it. Any help or description would be appreciated. Larry
