I saw a photo, and thought it begain with a "M", you answered the question, I remember seeing a McCloud name on some trout. It was a small one (the photo I saw), just didn't know if that strain lost the dots as a fawn will or if that strain will keep the dots. I never heard of the McCloud until I saw a photo posted about 6 months ago. Mainly I wanted to know the strain name so I could do a Google or find the post where someone put a photo up.

What is the name of the rainbow trout strain that has larger round circles on the side in addition to the regular small dots?

I would go with a 9 ft 5 wt rod and put a 6 wt line on it. If you get some wind, that will make is a lot easier to cast. I have landed big fish on the 9/5 and also had a blast hooking up little bluegill. A good rod combo all around IMO.

Maybe call Bennett Spring State Park, they may know the people in the area (or some of the local lodging/motels = Sand Springs Inn, Bennett Springs Inn, NRO?).

I need to tyr to meet up everyone sometime. The rain had the stream back up a little but doesn't look out of control.

I think if you had plastic on a "lure" that may qualify in Zone 3? I have asked similar questions but is it kind of a fine line there. I would take your actual lure into the hatchery and say "where can I fish this"? I have always stayed away from having any soft plastic legs and things although I heard that is okay. Just reading the rules, you never know how that could be defined.

Nicer size on the outfitter, or the land location? They have a store on the property, cabins, etc. Much more at NRO than Barclay. Not sure it that was your question? I have driven in there one time coming out of Barclay. It would shorten up a float trip if someone was looking for a shorter option especially if they are stopping to fish, that may be an all day float from what I hear from Hwy 64 to NRO? Just paddling downstream and not stopping Barclay is easy.

I have not floated down the river, but upstream from Bayclay is NRO. Some people get out there and a paved road leading to it. I believe they will also provide a shuttle service and/or drive your vehicle to a location you want so it will be there when your float trip ends.

What color cracklebacks were you using? I was using a sinking line and not a single fish (on Sunday in Zone 1 about 1/2 way up from the dam). Did not try below the arch bridge. Saw some guys down there pretty far and they looked like they were in some DEEP water. I found some holes that had washed in areas where there used to not be any holes, so with the stained water and current I did not venture into the unknown. I tried some John Deere jigs and no luck. About every fly I had. Thought I would even try some dries. I saw trout breaking the surface near the pond in Zone 1 near the dam about sunset. Quite a bit of surface action. Couldn't pick up any on Sunday.

I do fish with a fly rod, so up in Zones 1 & 2. I have fished the river with flies, obviously fewer stocked fish and a little slower action in the river. With it being brown mud I did not even attempt it this trip.

Didn't fish the river but took a quick look when going by. Very brown still this weekend.

Found the water high, stained but improved a little on Sunday. Water levels are pretty swift and up several feet. Surprised a few new little pot holes that have washed in the streams so be careful. Most of the things I always catch fish on did not work. Egg patterns and fishing deep worked. It appears the fish are feeding deep so that is where you need to be. Saturday I did not notice to many people cathing huge numbers of fish. Usually you can see someone with a fish on. Looked like a slow day. Still caught a few but, I would say a hard day of fishing.

I'll dip the fish in ice water and make about 5 layers of ice on the fish. Dipping them in the water, placing in the freezer to make the fresh ice water solid into ice. Coat them with about 5 layers of ice and then vacuum seal. If you don't have a vacuum seal, just use a zip lock. The ice will evaporate in the freezer.

Wow, I didn't know you could catch them on a 5x! Good to hear, I guess the stained water helps some. It must be you tie excellent flies, they don't care what size tippet you are using.

Congrats on the lunkers! How deep were you fishing the hybrids? Using an indicator?

Crowds alrady? I guess with the high water and rains, the first weekend that was fair everyone got out. Good to hear y'all were catching some.

Prior to the high levels, I would check their website for predictions of generation and those were never accurate. I have heard the horn blow and the water never comes. No telling?
