That had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes!

Been fishing the James for a week now and doing real good. Curiosity got the best of DD'sMC and I last night though. We decided to go over to Swan and Beaver to see what is happening over there. Swan-------Notta! Beaver, we caught quite a few dink males just above the Tin Whistles on grey and white clousers. Definately not very crowded over there. Lots of people had stringers with the dinks on them. One or two more days and it should be good over there. So, if the crowds at the James have got you down....head on over to Beaver because it is sure to happen there soon!

A Beautiful Dat At Taneycomo, Good Fishing
duckydoty replied to Bman's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
It was a great day to be outside! A few fish to hand really had to top it off! -
Hot Spotting- What some fishermen do, kind of like storm spotters identifying where the bad storms are, but in this case where the good bite is happening. Most in general like this in order to plan a successful day of fishing, yet a few do not like this practice for they feel it hinders thier fishing ability.
-
For the right amount of money, I'd be happy not to share the info about the hotspots I've found all by myself BTW, had Beaver Creek almost all to ourselves this evening

fished most of the night last night and the fishing was good. This morning at 1st light started fishing again and fishing was great. The guys using minnows out in the boat in front of us were just killing them. Large females are being seen on the shoal now and we did catch a few large males this morning. Heading back down tonight. The next 3 days should be spectacular fishing!

I only fished till dark last night. Talked to a few that fished down there all night and they did not do very well after dark. Went back down there this morning and it was on again. Catching lots of dink males but some really good sows in the 3 pounds and up range. Going back down this evening and spending the night down there. Should be some fun! Taylor shoals is just up from Blunk Hole. Go through Galena and just before you get to the Town Square turn right on the road that goes past the little grocery store. Just up at the top of the hill is Blunk Rd. Turn left on Blunk Rd and follow it down to the outfitter that has all the canoes in his yard. Just before his house is another road on the left. Take that road down to the end and there is a parking spot with river access. Follow the access trail down to the river and follow the river down to Taylor shoals and the gravel bar. That is where the fish are right now. If you have a boat, just keep going down Blunk Rd and at the end there is a launch. Go up river about 3/4 of a mile. Save some for us Phil!

We only took home 4. Just two of us eatn them.

Got down there about 6:30 p.m. and fished till 8:00 p.m. Caught some on the flyrod with grey and white clousers and some on spinning rod with white swimmin minnows and white sliders on both 1/8 oz and 1/4 oz jig heads.

DD'sMC and I wanted to fish Blunk hole but the water was up and the gravel bar on the other side was under water so we went on up to Taylor Shoals to try our luck there. Lots of dink males but some very nice sows mixed in also. Sows were dropping eggs after being caught. I Boga'd one of them and she weighed in just over 4 lbs! another was just over 3 lbs. Will be back down there tomorrow!

Asian carp are the only freshwater fish that I know of that when hooked, my line will created a rooster tail while literally making a sound screaming through the water. Giant flat heads will roll and roll and roll seeming to never give up. Huge carp can only compare to wild Alaskan 30" rainbows taking me into my backing several times over and over again. Not as many leaps and jumps though Sliver Salmon have been my most acrobatical fishing experience with repeated leaps, huge jumps and somersaulting though the air all in one run. White bass are pretty good pullers for their size.

Fishing has been great in the evenings when they shut the water off. Went out Thursday evening and the water was shut off at midnight. Chased the water down on the flats between outlet one and two. Fish hit white slump busters 5 and 6 times on just about every cast. Had a buddy from Michigan with me and he brought to hand a 23 inch bow just above the point once the water bottomed just about all the way out. Went up to the submerged island on the south side by the cable around 4 a.m. and just slayed them up there. Warning to all fishing on the south side by the cable and parked on the north side. If the dam starts making a loud swishing sound, start heading for the other side. I noticed a sound like rushing water and then noticed the water was rapidly rising, told the fella that was fishing with me it was time to go and go fast. As soon as we started heading out the horn went off. I thought it was supposed to go off before they started letting water out????? Anyway, fishing from shore has and can be good when they are running water in other places besides the outlets. Walk down the trails and paths and look for seems behind logs and back eddy areas. They are there and the fishing can be very productive with scuds and midges fished with indicators. You will have to roll cast in most of these areas but it gets you on some fish. One of my favorite spots is down the trail from the brown trout hatchery. When you come to the 1st set of stairs there is a small eddy area just down the hill from the platform with the bench and the tree in the middle of the walk way. A lot more fun than fishing the outlet and a lot less crowded. The south side can provide some excellent fishing access while the water is up also. Behind the island across from outlet 2 is a great spot. Further down are some excellent eddy and seam areas to fish also. Dont let the high water deter you from fishing Taney. You might have to look a little harder for the perfect spot, but they are there.

My brother, DD'sMC and I have been fishing Beaver Creek everyday for the last week and the big ones have finally moved in. I'm afraid the front coming in will push them back out again and today should be the last good day for a while. You fellas need to get on them today if you can! See ya down there. Yesterday the fishing produced all kinds of bonus fish. We caught 3 walleye all dinks. 3 huge small mouth, one good sized large mouth and several whites. Big males just under 2 pounds are showing up and larger females. Several people with good stringers. Fish up from the Tin Whistles if possible. White sliders and white 1/6 th ounce rooster tails with crome blades worked best. DD'sMC killed my brother and I on the whites. She caught 6 really nice ones in just a few minutes two of them were pushing 15 inches long. Yep.....Thats my wife duckydoty

Using Spinning Rods In The Wading Area
duckydoty replied to OSUCowboyinSPFD's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Yeah, go to Taney....you definately dont want to go to Beaver Creek and try that stuff out on whites, or above Blunk hole on the James messin with whites there. -
Now we all know you tried to keep that fish alive. The only reason you kept it was because it did expire. One of these days when I grow up I'm gonna be just like you, Rick! I still need to fish Taney for another 20 years though

There should be a conservation area over there just across the river to the west in a town calles Aus ......? Anyways, they have some trophy management ponds for blue gill. I've seen pictures of 12-14 inchers. If I lived over there, I'd be finding them ponds. Good luck to ya.

I took 12 kids out in a boat yesterday in crews of 4 at a time and drifted powerbait, jigs and spinners with them. It was a little slow for them also. We had a good time looking for the Taneycomo Sqid though.

I'm partial to 86. It's about 1 hr 15 min from Branson West. I dont speed.

DD'sMC and I fished the upper end to Slough Hollow with the same results-----Zero! Couple more days I guess.

I see you live in Springfield. Head over to Backcountry Outfitters just south of Bass Pro on Campbell right next to Fin and Feather. Michael Kyle would be happy to show you how to tie a few flies.

Welcome to the forum! When the Missouri river gets up in to the trees next to the levees...run limb lines with cut shad and 4" blue gills as bait. Should get you into some 40-50 pound flatheads. I have been eating the asian carp since 94. The word is starting to get out now
