  1. A suprise fly from Leonard. Looking forward to seeing what it is.
  2. This thread started as one person asking the opinion on wether trout beads would be effective on Taney. I believe the answer is "yes". Some how this got turned in to an ethical issue. After reading the regulations on all of Taney, there seems to be no ethical issue at all. I do not see all the bait fishermen getting hammered on here for fishing with bait in lower Taney. Thats probably because it is perfectly legal. Now I dont bait fish just because I prefer not to. That is my right just as it is others right to fish with beads if they so choose. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I guided up in Alaska all summer and used beads almost every day. Like stated before, as a guide it is my job to use the most productive methods possible. If the client is set on catching a fish on a sinking line stripping a 6" leach, well then it is my job to do my best to make that happen. If the fish are on nothing but eggs, all I can do is recommend what I know will catch fish, but ultimately it is my job to make the client happy and help achieve his/her goals for the trip. I have used beads on Taney and they have caught fish. I just prefer to strip mohair leaches, slump busters and soft hackles. I usually dont fish glow balls either, but if I was facing a skunk.........I would try a bead! I know others have opinions and that is great that they have the right to share them. You probably would not like to hear my opinion about other's opinions, so I will just keep those to myself

  12. As winter is about to set upon us, the fly tying desks should start to get a little more use. If anyone is interested, I would be willing to host a fly swap. Any fly you want to tie. I'll keep this to 12 participants. The 1st 12 to post "I'm in" get to play. To play this game you must tie up one dozen flies, make 12 recipe cards for the fly pattern that you tied and mail them to me by the 31st of January along with a postage paid envelope so I can return your new flies to you. A tag on the barb of each hook with your name will help the other tyers to know who tied the different flies they receive. In return you will get one fly from each of the tyers and one back from yourself to make the complete set for this swap. Now remember, the flies must be to me by the 31st of January. That is a little ways off so dont procrastinate and miss the dead line. I will be tying the primrose and pearl soft hackle. When your flies are done, PM me and I will send you my address. Thanks for joining 1. duckydoty -primrose and pearl soft hackle Done 2. DD'sMC -Hackle Wing Caddis Done 3. bobtu -CRACKLEBACK received 4. troutchaser -Chartreuse Jumbo John Variant received 5. 13. All these secrets on here.......Geeesh!
  14. Only for a short time. The hard part was casting right between the decoys because that is where the fish kept rising.
  15. Did a little fishing yesterday with my brother across from Monkey Island on the gravel bar there. The weather was cold, and cloudy but the fish were still very active. Spankin Spinach soft hackles and lime green cracklebacks were working the best. We both had several hookups in the couple of hours we fished and we both landed 4 each. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we were fishing in the middle of our decoy spread and managed to get 3 mallards also. duckydoty
  16. They raised the limits on woodies this year to 3. Mallards is 4 but no more than 2 hens Mottled ducks is 3 redheads is 2 hooded mergansers is 2 black duck is 1 pintail is 1 Early season Canada geese is 3 per day Duck and goose identification is all part of the fun! That must be done before you pull the trigger. duckydoty
  17. All you need to stay warm on New Years Day is some of Leonard's special coffee!
  18. For all of you out there that have Coast Guard Liscenses....Dont forget you have to get your TWIC cards soon. You must pre-enroll over the internet, then set an appointment to show proof of identity. 21. Nice video Phil. I liked the statement at the beginning "The gravel here is bottom". I thought that was rather humorous A microphone attached to you might help with sound quality.
  22. The only time I like to call is to try and turn them once they have flown over. Once they start to turn, shut em up. I'm definately not a member of hwy 79 highballers club.
