  3. Fished yesterday from 9 am to 5 pm. They were running water but the fishing was steady. There were lots of fish midging close to the banks in little pockets and seams. I have been noticing several new areas to fish from the bank when the water is up that should be very productive. All you have to do is walk down the bank and look for a little back water or a seam close to shore where the fish are stacked up and midging. I saw this in several areas from below outlet 3 down past Point Royal on both sides of the lake. Not as much action up above outlet 3. Stipping soft hackles really fast seamed to work the best along with crackle backs. Tried drifting midges under an indicator through the fish but they really wanted to chase something. Dont let high water detour you from wade fishing. There are several places to fish besides the outlets that can be very productive. duckydoty
  4. Yes, Phil, you should have went fishing yesterday. I'm fixing to head up north for the big deer hunt and will be back the middle of next week. We can go fishing then Duckydoty
  5. Lots of fish below lookout. That is where some of the best fighters are. Lots of midging going on today. duckydoty
  6. The fish in the lower areas have been fighting hard. Lots of leaps and good runs. I have seen a few dead fish and have noticed that there are not as many fish in the upper areas like there use to be. Hopefully Table Rock will turn over soon and help out a bit. I wonder what all this high water has done to the sowbug and scud populations??? I have started to see a lot of fish midge again in certain areas. That is a good sign. I was turning over some rocks the other day and noticed a lot of little light colored leeches. Have any of you seen those before?? duckydoty
  7. Dang, thats as good as a 30" Naknek bow!
  8. Hey fellas, The catch and release program for partners that is. I have gone and gotten myself engaged to a wonderful woman that loves to fish on Taney and she even ties flies. You may have seen her on here lately-DD'sMC. I just wanted to share with you all that we will be getting married on December 31st down on Taney in a drift boat close to outlet 3. If your coming down early for the OAF get together on the 1st feel free to stop by and join in on the celebration. We will be decked out in waders and all and might have to tangle a few lines as part of the ceremony. duckydoty

  14. Rick, Yes, I have caught a 31 incher this year, and a 32 incher, and 3 at 30 inches, and too many to count around 27 to 29 inches. Its just getting started up here with the pig bows. See you in October Duckydoty
  15. I know a few of you are getting ready to head up north to Alaska so I figured I would post a report to get you all fired up. The Naknek River system has been fishing great. The silvers have moved in and are on the bite. The big males of 14 and 15 pounds have just started moving in and are being taken on the bead and buggers. Flesh colored flies have been picking them up too. King Salmon Creek is just plum full of silvers right now and what an exciting place to catch them. The sockeyes are just starting to drop eggs so that means the char and dollys have moved into the Naknek. Monster rainbows are still crashing on smolts and they are starting to switch over to the egg. Giant articulated egg sucking leaches were irresistable to one rainbow this week that was 31 inches long and had a 17 inch girth. Come on September! All the bows you can shake a stick at in the 6 pound plus range. Magrot Creek has all the bears in it right now. They are plucking ripened red sockeye out of the creek like it was an Arkansas tomato patch! Dealing with the bears has produced a couple of 10+ pound char this week along with quite a few decent bows in the 8 pound range. Idavaine is unbeleavable right now. No other out fitters go over there during this time of the year but after the greyling and rainbows we caught this week, I personally can not understand why. So what if 22 bears sneak up on you in one day and look at you as if you might be a tasty change from sockeye. That just makes the journey more exciting! Oh yes! Brooks........ One resident bear right now and multiple chances at 29 and 30 in bows all day long uninterupted by the bears. You could not ask for a better time to fish Brooks right now. Hope to see some of you Southern boys soon! Duckydoty
  16. We had a bear experience this week while out fishing for Sockeye with Michael Kyle from Backcountry Outfitters. It was a rather humorous experience that I'm sure Michael will remember for the rest of his life. I know I will be laughing about it the rest of mine. Steve Neale, Randy Wagoner both from the Kansas City area, Michael and I were fishing down at Shawback's on the Naknek river late one evening and had a few sockeye laying on the bank. A bear decided to pay us a visit and immediately smelled the fish and came running for them. We did not have time to get to the boat or out of the way of the bear, but Michael did have time to get his fish and move in to the group in the middle of the river. After the bear ran passed us to go up stream 100 yards to check our boat for salmon, the bear returned to our group huddled as deep as possible in the Naknek, about 10 yards from the bear! We then realized the bear was still looking for the fish and noticed that Michael was in possession of the fish. We realized Michael looked like a Sockeye in his orange and green Simms gear. Michael, in a panic state of mind, proceeded to dump the fish in the river while in full retreat from the advancing bear. Randy and I took first line of defense with pepper spray ready while Micheal was hollering every man and fish for himself. I took a test shot in the direction of the bear with the pepper spray and it was a direct hit. It immediately turned the bear for a few seconds and then he came again. Michael was trying to get his bear spay out and make a test shot also without paying attention to wind direction. One quick burst from Michael and all of us had a face full of pepper spray, laughing, coughing and gagging we all had a terrific bear experience. We jumped into the boat and went down stream looking for the beautiful 10.5 pound Sockeye Michael caught earlier and ran across the retreating bear. Once in the safty of the boat, we no longer acted like scared school girls and rostered tailed the bear with the jet prop motor. We were successful in retrieving the sockeye. Final result, fisherman 5, bear zero. duckydoty
  17. Just got back to Naknek River Camp after spending a few days camping in the wilderness with Phil. We had a great time and explored a lot of new territory to us on the lake. Phil and I both caught our 1st lake trout. One each over in the Bay Of Islands area. We camped out at Margot Creek last night and went back over to Brooks early this morning. We got chased around by the bears a little then headed over to Idavine again. Great trip and fresh sockeye as a shore lunch cant be beat! We will get some pictures up later. duckydoty
