  1. I have not seen any boats around the Coney Island area. Looks pretty mean out there.
  2. Good title! LOL! I got 4 feeders and 2 suet cake holders going full time on the front porch right now. Birds have no problem emptying them all 2x a day. Them little suckers are getting expensive to feed!
  3. I guide in western Alaska in and around Katmai National Park. We do a lot of fly outs to remote areas and the lodge is on the Naknek River just outside of King Salmon.
  4. Just got word, large numbers of birds seen on the Rock this afternoon with a limit of green heads taken. Here they come!
  5. Ness, I usually do not fish with guests. I'm afraid of catching a fish that could have been Thiers. I do have some long time return guests up in Alaska that demand I fish with them. It is kinda awkward in my opinion and I never want to catch a nice fish with them in the boat. I will on occasion demonstrate a technique or hook a fish occasionally to build confidence but I will pass that hooked fish off to a guest to fight. There is a lot to learn in fighting fish and I think that helps to coach them on when to let them run, when to reel and how to help steer a fish while fighting. On a slow day, I share lots of stories, talk about patterns, demonstrate techniques and emphasize enjoying the outdoors and taking in everything Alaska has to offer
  6. Wow. That is a tough call flyman. I can understand your frustration for sure. I've been guiding in Alaska for 6 years now and I can tell you, a fishless day is my worst nightmare. Alaska is supposed to be the easiest place in the world to fish, where trophy rainbows are just waiting to jump in the boat. Believe it or not, every now and then, a fish is not caught. Happens a little less than once a year up there, but none the less it still happens. On a day like that, if I have not tried every fly and every lure I have in possession, then I don't feel like I've done my job. There are no guarantees but on a fishless day, I hope I have provided a fun and memorable experience along with some education on the species being chased and techniques being used. Again, sorry you had a bad experience.
  7. Welcome to the forum Winchester and thanks for your input on this matter. You guys had a pretty good hunt yesterday.
  8. I figured that was you. Where did you guys hunt? The guy below us in the island area got some shooting in. Was that you?
  9. Good idea Phil! Still waiting for a call from Quenten. I will ask him about that idea also.
  10. MK was hunting about 1/2 mile up lake from me. I could see the ducks dumping in on him. I almost went to that spot. It was my second choice for hunting that morning. Lots of hunters were out and my 1st choice was open. To bad it was not the ducks 1st choice to be that morning. I did watch 2 anglers for about an hour in a boat absolutely crushing it with an A rig along the bluff across from me that morning. They were catching bass on just about every cast for almost an hour straight. Strange….no one harassed them?????
  11. Whats funny that MK does not share with you, He actually had a deputy sherif hunting with him at the time….
  12. I book marked it on my phone for future reference.
  13. Getting pretty sore with me too Scott. This guy yells at me every time I'm in the area that I have no right to be disturbing his peace on his personal space on his lake.
  14. I too have been harassed on a couple of occasions this year be home owners telling me that I am invading their personal space by duck hunting on the waters of Lake Taneycomo anywhere near the vicinity of their property. That even includes water 1/2 mile or more from their property. I have put a call in to Quentin to ask for his advice on a resolution to this issue and will post a response as soon as I get one. I have asked the individual that has been cussing me out to call the sherrif and the game warden several times. I asked him if he complains about fishermen, road traffic, and airplanes flying over. He stated no because those activities are regulated. I informed him that duck hunting was regulated also, not only by the state of Missouri, but by the federal government too.
  15. You are welcome. Definitely give ma a call. This next week is gonna be interesting down here
  16. We just can't believe there are not ducks and geese everywhere down there

  23. Great report Eric. Glad you guys got into them. Went out today and it was a slow one. Hoping for some fresh birds after this cold front comes through. I think you got this Taney thing figured out. You guys did a great job blending in!
  24. Them boys look like they might be having some fun!
  25. Sorry we missed you Bob! was looking forward to some of that cajun cooking. Thanks for sharing the pictures John. Hope you picked up a few tips that will help you catch some of them slicks down there. DD'sMC and I headed down to the Landing in hopes of some crappie for the dinner table. Phil came down and absolutely schooled us on how to catch them. Thanks to Phil, we will be eating fresh crappie tomorrow for dinner. Nice seeing everyone down there again. Good way to start the New Year!
