  1. Nice job on the Photo shop jscheetz. Now we know how you catch that fish in your profile.
  2. Thanks for pointing this out Gavin. I have no Idea about the BNP. The thread was listed as the Current, and I missing in taxidermist post that he listed BNP. My comments refer to the Current ONSR only.
  3. I can tell you that 10 years ago all the boats running in the 40 hp limit areas were 40's w/ an after market jet lower unit and a 60 w/ a jet lower unit was not legal. Today, 90% of the boats running are 60/40 units that are a 60 hp power head w/ a jetpump installed at the factory and the title says 60/40. I have owned both. I'm not sure on how the law reads, or what the Park Super is telling folks, but I do know what is the pratice on the river below 2 rivers.
  4. I have fished the spring branch at manchester as well. It is a nice quiet place to fish. It is a small techincal little stream the fish are very spooky. I fished there last year and saw a couple of huge fish. 6-10 lbs. Giant fish for this tiny stream I don't know how you could land a fish like this on so little water, but I never got a take on the big fish. The access at the hatchery is easy. Lots of fish, not many other fisherman. I wouldn't make this a destination, but it is a nice place to stop. The access from the HWY is easy along HWY 20. This location is the southwestern portion of the DZ and there is more areas north a few miles around Strawberry Point. I haven't fished this area, but it was refered to me by locals as a better stream than spring branch. Good Luck.
  5. Good job reporting the violator.
  6. I would imagine, the NPS won't make an effort to enforce this regulation in isolation. However, when they do find the out of control drunks, this gives them another tool to put the screws to the extreme violators. I see this being used as a pile on case, rather than the main focus. my2cents
  7. Thanks Leonard. Looking forward to getting the flys.
  8. I do a Guys trip each winter to the norfork. Great fishing, and you can choose between the white and the norfork.. A boat is a must if the water is running.
  9. I was there sunday fishing the fly only area about the mid point. I started fishing about 9:00 and caught 5 or 6 on an olive mirco jig w/ grizzly hackle, then I caught several on a #20 griffens knat, Tried a couple of other jigs and midge patterns, with varying success Total, I caught about 15-20 fish between 9:00 and 2:00. It was a very relaxing day. What part of the stream was you fishing?
  10. Somebody has too much time on their hands and needs to get out fishing............. Thanks for the laugh.
  11. We stay at ShoreAcres at the end of DD near Kimberling City at about the 6 mile marker. Lots of gravel points to drag a rig around on. They have cabins a pool for the kids and a boat dock. Good folks running the place. Good Luck.
  12. I'm extremely envious. I spent the day looking at four wall and a computer. Just a wishin I was fishin. I need to play hooky soon.
  13. You are asking for trouble w/ that statment.
  14. I'll twist this thread a little and throw in most memorable outings. 1. When I was 5 or 6 my dad and I were fishing on the middle current river and he caught a 25" and a 18" fish and I caught a 20" fish all from the same hole in about 20 minutes. We caught several others, but those were the mentionable. My fish fought so hard in the current of the river that I didn't think I was going to land it. I've been hooked on SMB since. 2. Another outing on the meramec, I had just started fly fishing and caught 5 fish on 5 cast from 18" to 15" all released. Then it shut off and I didn't get another bite. 3. Largest SMB 25" in Canada, I have no idea on the weight. We caught over 100 fish per day most over 15" for 4 days. I was so spoiled that when I came back to missouri I didn't fish many times the whole summer. I couldn't stand the disappointment. Largest Missouri SMB 22" from Tablerock. Largest river smallie the one in item #1. Most SMB in a day, Big Piney over 100 fish all (or most) over 14 inches. 4. Northern Pike I caught 2 - 36" fish with in about 20 minutes of each other. The only fish caught all day. 5. Largemouth - 23" long skinny male. It only weighted about 5 lbs.
  15. Wow, I'm thought I had a good day Saturday and was happy w/ 10-15 fish. Saturday was a weird weather day. Cold, off and on snow. In the afternoon the fish were rising to something, I couldn't tell what they were hitting, but I think they my have been hitting the snow flakes. Did anyone else notice this,or what the fish were rising to? I caught a couple on a #16 caddis, but nothing large. Most of the fish I caught came on a y2k or a black zebra midge. I tried some scuds and streamers, but no luck. I drove down from STL on saturday morning, the roads were very slick. Many cars off the road between Cuba and Rolla. I think the snow caught MODOT off guard and they didn't salt. Very Bad conditions. The roads were slick but no one seamed to slow down until it was too late. The HWY patrol had a busy morning.
  16. The rules are clear. The limit is 40 hp. Now the tricky part. A jet lowers the Hp output at the pump, so a 50 hp power head would have about a 35hp output w/ a jet. The law says 40 hp. So how can you run a 50 hp? Simple. Some of the manufactures have started installing the jet pump lower unit at the factory therefore they can title the motor as a 50/35 or a 60/40 and so on. As long as the motor is titled 40hp or less, you can run it in the areas permitting the 40 hp limit. However, my understanding, if you have a motor that has switched the lower unit to a jet, and it is titled over 40 hp, then it would not be permitted. Clear as mud.
  17. You need to be out of the ONSR to run a motor in excess of 40 HP. This would mean inside the city limits at Van Burean and below the park. Good luck.
  18. Lake 33 is loaded w/ crappie. Mostly small ones though. When they start spawning you can catch hundreds.
  19. Every court has a Jester........... do you have one of those funny looking hats.
  20. jscheetz I see that you are still swinging the Maul. You do like to stir the pot. Thats funny.
  21. Here, Read this thread. http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1711 Orvis has a great return policy as stated in the thread.
  22. Wow. Nice trip.
  23. Thursday morning, I called the 800 number and Lisa promptly took the order and put it in the mail. I got it Saturday. Very fast. Thanks the hat looks great.
  24. I pay to bird hunt 4-5 times a year and spend less than $400 a year. This gives me several oppurturnities to hunt for much less than a single trip to hunt wild birds. I go knowing it's not the same as wild birds, on several occasions, my dogs have caught quail and chucker, but never pheasants. I think it depends greatly on how the birds are placed. If the birds are flown into the field. The birds are much more spread out and fly better. You have a greater risk of the birds flying or running to an area off limits to hunt if hunting a small parcel, but the ones that you find will fly. The birds that are disoriented and placed can be a bit difficult to get up if the placer over does it. I believe these are the ones the dogs catch. I have asked the outfitter to give me the birds to place in the past when training the dogs. This works very well. I know right where the birds are and work the young dog in a manner to make the most of the training time. Fishing. I would pay a reasonable price to fish for trout in West St. Louis County saving the drive time to waters holding trout........... Not $ 20,000 though. If this is what it cost to fish. I'd give up fishing for trout.
  25. Yes, I notice this. I bet the vendor printing for TU got a earful and provided an unwanted discount to TU.
