Redington 5/6 wt 2 pc 8ft "Red Start" fly rod for sale
Clay Goforth replied to Clay Goforth's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
Anyone interested in this? Make me an offer and let me decide if I want to take it. If nobody is interested, I'll take the post down so as not to clog up the feed. -
I don't think it is aging out, actually. If anything, I think it might be growing...for those that want to, get on instagram and search "fishing." There are millions of photos posted with that tag added. I'm 32 and, as someone said, "ate up with it." Like Seth, I have been since I was about 3 years old. It is all I want to do. Colleges are adding Bass Clubs that fish against each other and even offering scholarships now... Where was that 12 years ago when I was in college?

I will also throw in a case for another $20 -
I just bought a new TFO 3wt and I already have a 5/6 St. Croix so I need to sell this Redington. It is gently used, at most. All cork in tact, no blemishes on the rod. Also selling with it an Orvis Clearwater reel, also gently used. I would like to get $100 for the set. I can send pics if interested but they are both in perfect working condition. Great setup for someone looking for a beginning setup or a backup. ITEMS HAVE BEEN SOLD.

Looking For A Trip For 2015
Clay Goforth replied to Nick Williams's topic in General Angling Discussion
Togiak River, Togiak Alaska. There is only one true outfitter on the whole River, the Togiak River Lodge. I have gotten to know the owners and they are incredibly nice people who even let my wife and I stay at their house on the coast in Oregon for vacation one year. The fishing is just ridiculous. I'd go in early September and fish for the big silver salmon that run. We went and caught 15lb silvers all day. Some were up to 20lbs. They also have big rainbows, char, dollies and you might tie into a late season king. If you want more info, let me know. -

My dad and I went on our annual spring weekend fishing trip on the White River. The trip always coincides with the Shawnee/Supreme tournament, which was on Saturday. We fished the catch and release area above State Park on Friday and had a great time fishing the 1 unit of water. We put on the water at 1 in the afternoon and just had a blast. We boated around 60 fish by 5:30, including a 20" brown. We also caught some beautiful rainbows. Nothing big but the colors on these fish were spectacular. The hot color was a black and olive 1/16oz jig. On Saturday, we fished the Tournament, launching at 7am from Wildcat Shoals with 2 units of water running. We found fish immediately, courtesy of a trip I took to the river a few weeks ago. The first fish landed was on the first cast and was a 19" brown...Not the minimum 24" inches but a fun fight nonetheless. We caught our four rainbows and put them in the livewell and started hunting big fish. We found some nice fish, the nicest a 22" brown my dad caught. 2" shy of an $1,100 payout for big fish!!!! On our other fish, they again had some beautiful color. Our four rainbows for the day scored us 4th place in the tournament anyway, which I was pleased with considering there were 70 boats on the water. We had a wonderful time and Paula Flippin with the Cotter Chamber does an awesome job putting on this event. Today, we went back to the catch and release area below the dam because they were generating three units of water, which is incredible fishing for the area. And it did not disappoint. The fish were not as plentiful but they were QUALITY. We caught 18" rainbow after 18" rainbow. I even landed these two 20" plus rainbows, the first was 20" and the second was a FAT 22" fish. The 22" fish was a fighter. A true slab of a fish... I also got some other cool underwater pictures of fish that you guys might like so I included them here.

SFiser, I have a Supreme Boat with a 30HP jet and if the water gets much lower, you still have to be careful. Even now, you can only run it if you know where to go. I have run up those shoals a hundred times and still nip the lower end every once in a while. The river is a constantly changing too. There are some points, too, where you need to hit it on a full run up on a plane to glide over. Best thing to do is maybe wait for someone else to make a run and then follow them so you can learn the route.

Blitz, I was up around 2 miles above the bridge. Up above the backside of Waterford Estates clubhouse.

That was him! Hahaha.

Just pulled off the river at Twin Bridges in Goshen. The white run is starting but they seem to be really spread out. I ran way up river to get away from the people and boated 10 nice whites. Only fished for a couple of hours but I consider that I be a slow bite. Ran across a couple of boys and talked walleye with them. They pulled up their stringer to reveal one about 26" and another about 22". The run is definitely in swing.

I just want to say, you guys are awesome. I just read through the entire two page spread and the collaboration and sharing of information is incredible on here. Thank you, to everyone who is contributing on here. I am planning on hunting eyes and maybe some white bass this weekend, so, if I have any luck, I will definitely share. Thanks again!

It has been my experience that the amount of water is not necessarily a problem, but the color definitely is. I ended up not going Saturday or Sunday because the coloration of the water was like coffee with a touch of cream and there was debris everywhere. I went and looked at it both days. I am planning on going on Sunday evening this coming weekend to see if I can find any walleye. It seems, though, that when the water is up like it has been, the fish will go ahead and move and the fishermen just won't know about it because we can't get anything to them they can find in the dirty water. I understand it is an interesting take in regard to the two different bodies of water and two different fish species becoming active about the same times, but I have tracked it a few years now and it has proven to be true thus far. When my friend starts catching crappie on Sequoyah in mid-late february, the walleye are moving into the river.

Anyone else fishing this tournament? I will be over there all day Friday, Saturday for the tournament, and then again on Sunday. If anyone else is going over, I'd love to know so I can be looking for you. I always like to meet other OAF members when given the opportunity. If you are thinking about fishing it, I highly recommend it. It is a wonderful tournament and the bags are usually pretty impressive, depending on water levels.

BOOM! NICE BROWN, HAM!

I'm planning on trying this Saturday but may get rained out. I'll post an update if I go. Usually, when the crappie start biting on Lake Sequoyah, the Walleye are starting to move...I know the two bodies of water are unrelated but the movement seems to coincide. I have a friend who was catching some absolute slabs on Sequoyah before the snow hit, so that tells me it is getting really close to time.

Thought those that are familiar with Taneycomo might enjoy this condensed time-lapse of the sun coming up this morning at the dam. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get this to upload in 720 so the link is not as clear as the actual video...

I think someone mentioned the current World Record being from the Great Lakes? That record was so 2010... Current record is apparently from New Zealand in 2013... http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/field-notes/2013/07/kiwi-angler’s-42-lb-brown-trout-official-world-record I didn't know this, I just looked it up so please know that I am being totally sarcastic with my opening remark. GREAT FISH FROM THE WHITE. Congratulations to the chap that caught it. I, and I bet a bunch of other folks on here, would be lying if I said I wasn't jealous. I've chased monster browns on the White for 20 years and have very little to prove it.

So in regard to the Walleye in C&R, I don't know that this still holds true, but a few years ago when they opened the flood gates and dumped a bunch of them into the river, I talked to a G&F Officer about the very topic and he said, "keep em." The C&R only pertained to the trout and the walleye were seen as an invasive species that would be eating a lot of trout every year. Considering that the source of income for the white river lodges and guides is primarily tourists coming to catch trout, I think this would hold true. I wouldn't have any problem being caught with walleye in the live well in a C&R area, personally.

Richline, The ZigJigs are great. I fish some of them. I primarily fish PJs Finesse Baits jigs, mainly because the owner is a friend and pastor of our church and they do a lot of philanthropic work with the funds from the company but both are very good and both will catch fish. The colors that I would make sure I had in the box are: Black White Sculpin Olive Peach/Olive Brown/Orange Their are a wide variety of other color combos, but I almost strictly fish these and almost always start with just straight black unless there is a shad kill and I use white. In regard to size, you want to match water depth and speed of the flow. The size I use most of the time is a 1/16oz, with 3/32 being a close second. 1/8oz is reserved for 6+ units of water and 1/32 is mostly used for minimum flow in shallow areas. At minimum flow, most places you can still get by with a 1/16oz. Hope this helps and make sure you let us know how you do!
