Looking forward to your reports! Brad

Made it out to the lake today, it was a cool beautiful morning. What a nice break from what we've had the last few days. This report is a drastic change from last week, last week we had limits in a few hours, this week we were just dreaming of enough to have for dinner - what a difference! Had six, yes only 6, from 6 - 11 this morning. Actually had several bites just couldn't get the hook set. Tried all kinds of stuff, shorter jig etc.... still couldn't get the little boogers to cooperate. The fishing trip was good, company great, catching...well at least I made it to the lake! Did see two very unique things I've never seen: 1. Shad were swimming around the surface every where, from this years hatch to season vets. Was privileged to watch a crappie swim up (visability was probably 1.5' or so) attack a shad and dive back to the safety of his tree! 2. Able to catch a crappie bust a school of shad, come out of the water and flop three times on the surface and then dive back in like a submarine! Great day to all, Brad

Tremendous number of trees around Bolivar landing and most of them are good for crappie fishing. You can go up river and fish all kinds of trees, however be extremely careful or you'll be looking for a new lower unit! If you head towards the dam you won't go far and you'll see trees on both your right and left, both hold fish. You can also put in at Nemo, go left out of the cove and you'll run into a lot of trees at Haverstick cove, great place to fish in the summer and fall. You'll find trees from there for nearly the next mile on the east bank - you can fish Haverstick, Baily and Turner cove plus all the trees in between! Good luck on your endeavors and let us know how it goes! Brad

The crappie fishing is as hot of the weather! Two of us started early yesterday morning and had our limits in less than four hours. Fished both standing timber and brush piles. The fish were hanging around the trees in 10-15 fow and were 3-10 deep. Used jigs in a variety of colors - white/chart, blue/chart, brown/chart, black/chart, electric chicken, blue/silver. The fish we caught on brush piles were suspended just above the brush and we caught them by casting and retreiving the jig back. We also caught a tremendous number of small fish, should be a good future population in Pomme. Good luck! Brad

Sorry for the delay in the results, family is heavily involved in the fireworks business and I got tied up the last few days! It was a great tournament for the catching, although the pleasure boats were out thick early - what a zoo! The biggest crappie I've ever seen from Pomme was weighed in on Sunday - Jim Bacon landed a 2.8 pound crappie, what a BEAST! Hopefully we'll have some pictures to post later on. Here's how it went: 1. Bacon/Bacon 7.17 2. Hall/Reth 7.14 3. Bowers/Peterson 5.90 4. Shockley/Stokes 5.50 5. Newman/Ginnings 5.21 6. Farrell/Farrell 4.92 Big 1. Bacon/Bacon 2.80

Interesting, I've wondered about some of the "private" ramps around the lake. Thanks for the info. Brad

Haven't bass fished Pomme in a while, however I've heard good news, - just no details. Probably typical summer bite (cranks, jigs, soft plastics) off points. Good luck! Brad
-
Hope this helps: Crappie are both suspended and in the brush. You can catch them on crankbaits or by fishing jigs/minnows in the brush piles. Walleye are at both locations. You can still catch some off main lake points, however the bite has slowed significantly. They are moving to the flats, late last week we started catching them on the flats, however there were not a ton of fish out there yet. The flats will pick up and get stronger. Good luck! Brad
-
They are never all that accurate. Would like to know where they get their info. Went this morning - Walleye good using nightcrawlers off points, but are starting to transition to flats. Can catch from both locations. Crappie - good trolling cranks in 20-30 fow. Brad

Results - Crappie Slayers Tournament Series
shockley32 replied to shockley32's topic in Pomme De Terre Lake
The brush piles are loaded with crappie right now. Find a few brush piles in 15-25 fow and dabble a jig, each day is a little different they may be suspended above the brush or right down in the brush. Shouldn't have any problem at all catching a good mess. Brad -

Fished a crappie tourney on Saturday. They are biting great!!! You can get you limit in just 1-2 hrs tops. Brush piles, 20-30 fow, jig just in the top of it. Brad
-
Welcome aboard! I would focus on main lake points. Start with crankbaits and then switch to jigs & big worms. Some points are better than others, just have to try them. Brad

An extra bedroom so I can stay over!!!!!! Brad

Spent the last two days walleye fishing Stockton between dodging the storms! The walleye were hitting fair to moderate off main lake points. Choose the points with rocks, drag a nightcrawler on the bottom. Caught several walleye however we were having trouble finding keepers, did get enough for dinner!!!! We did catch several real nice white bass, great fighters. Good luck, Brad

I wish I knew! My understanding is crankbaits and nightcrawlers. Haven't heard of many people focusing on walleye at Pomme, would like to know more. Brad

Crappie Slayers Tournament Series Lake Pomme De Terre Pittsburg State Park May 7th, 2011 Weigh 7 Crappie 1. Taylor/Roberts 5.550 2. Shockley/Stokes 5.430 3. Hallemier/Reth 5.390 4. Bacon/Bacon 5.310 5. Newman/Ginnings 4.860 6. Wilson/Lableu 2.820 7. Farrell 1.189 8. Wilson/Wilson Big Crappie Shockley/Stokes 1.355 Fishing Report: The bite was excellent once again today, however it slowed near lunch and into the afternoon. We had our limits in the boat in 3 ½ hours and probably threw back another limit, maybe limit and half of keepers plus shorts. Brush Piles 25-30 fow, most fish were suspended above the brush just 12-15’ deep. All fish were caught on Shimmer Stix jigs (and another new one!), variety of color – blue/chart, green/chart, green/silver, blue/silver, white/chart. Had the opportunity to try a brand new bait today – 2.5 shad body style bait. This bait has a big profile but it didn’t scare the fish any at all. They hammered the bait pretty hard, even caught some small fish on it. Good luck and great fishing!!!

Sounds like a great trip. Were the short walleye just shy? Brad

I could try to take a few pictures. They are made by a guy here in SW Missouri. If you are interested in ordering a few just send me an e-mail at shockley32@hotmail.com and I'll get you his phone number. They have been killer on crappie, walleye, white bass and small kentucky's. Brad

Headed to Pomme today to try our hand at some crappie. Didn't have very high expectations with weather, forecast, water level, wind, etc... All I can say is WOW!!!! We had three limits of solid fish before 10:00 this morning. Continued catching and throwing back keepers - three of us had over a hundred keepers!!! Water Temp - 56 Structure - Brush piles, in mouths of spawning area, off points of spawning areas. Depth - 30-40 fow, in the brush. Jigs - All fish were caught on Shimmer Stix Jigs, blue disco & stormy blue were the top colors! If you haven't tried these jigs yet you need to give them a whirl, they are awesome. Water Clarity - clean, 2-3' of visibility. Almost every fish caught was a female with a huge belly's full of eggs. Good luck! Brad

Some Guys New To Stockton Need Some Advice
shockley32 replied to johnboy2bfishin's topic in Stockton Lake
Welcome - Hope you make it to Stockton and enjoy your time! I would start in the creeks - Sons, Birch Branch, Greaser, Price Branch, Maze, Googer. Right now a spinnerbait is good on wind blown banks, I prefer white, white/chart or sexy shad. Crankbaits are really good as well - bandit 100 or 200 series, strike king, storm wiggle warts. However the water has come up a few feet just in the last couple of days, water in the brush means flipping bushs with creature baits and jigs. Don't forget the lizard bite as well! The crappie and walleye are doing well right now, don't over look them!!! Good luck and let us know how do. Brad -
Which Is Used More For Spawn Minnows Or Plastics
shockley32 replied to fishbait3's topic in Stockton Lake
Agree with Bob - jigs are the only way to go. In the spring when the fish are aggressive you can fish faster and cover more ground with a jig. Often I can have the jig back in the water with antoher bite before one can put a minnow on the hook. I prefer a white or something with white in it during the spring. With all that said there are times when minnows are better - we must remember live bait is proven. It's rare I even buy minnows anymore cause I tend to catch bigger and better crappie on jigs. Brad
