  2. Crappie Slayers Tournament Series September tournament has been moved from the 11th to the 18th so we can all fish the Clever fund raiser tournament. New Info: September 18th 7:00 - 2:00 7 Fish Pittsburg State Park We will be having lunch together after the tournament. Please let me know in advace if you are planning to come so we can make preparations. I'll be providing hots and all that go with them, just ask that you bring some side dish (chips, cookies, etc...). This is the last tournament of the year. Hope to see you there. Brad
  3. It was great to get out after a seven week stint on the DL. Sure have been missing the water. Discovered two things today 1) My knee isn't ready to go fishing yet 2) I have really really missed fishing! Fished about four hours and two of us ended up with 25 keepers, if I could have taken it longer we should have finished out limits. Fished standing timber from 2 - 20 feet of water. The crappie were anywhere from 6 inches to 15 feet deep. Fished with 1/16th oz jig head and they would hit it on the fall. Colors: blue/black/chart, red/chart, pink/melon, white/yellow/chart, white/blue/chart. We caught probably three 8 7/8" crappie for every keeper. Should be excellent fishing as soon as they eat another shad or two! We'll see what happens with the proposed draw down in a couple of weeks. Brad
  4. Sounds like fun! Did you get the eyes off points or on flats? Brad
  5. Results!!! Crappie Slayers Tournament Series Lake Pomme De Terre Pittsburg State Park Aug 14th, 2010 7 Crappie 1. Bacon/Bacon 5.570 2. Farrell/Farrell 5.440 3. Oliver/Oliver 5.330 4. I was unable to fish due to recooping from knee surgery, however it sounded like a very good day. I know one thing - I'm jealous!! Hope to see everyone next month! Brad
  6. Tomorrow's high is suppose to be 99 with a heat index of 110. We will have a meeting before the tournaments starts and vote on moving the weigh in to 12:00. Hope to see you there! Brad

  8. Crappie fishing on Stockton has been excellent this year. I was doing extremely well until just recently when I had surgery and haven't been on the water. Up to last week the crappie have been in the brushpiles. Not all brush piles are created equal so hit several when you go. There are several things to try: 1) Jigs and Minnows - I'm a jig man, hate minnows and rarely buy them however for some people they work better. 2) Jigs - color: sometimes it makes a difference sometimes it doesn't. I like whites, blues, gray's. Keep switching it up. 3) Vertical jigging - pull up and vertical jig the brush pile use 1/16th to 1/8th oz jig heads. I like to find the brush on the graph and start fishing on top of the brush and then work my way down into the pile. If the brush is 10' deep I will start fishing at 8 and then work my way down into the brush. 3) Casting jigs - sometime the crappie want the jig on the fall. You can cast out count down and real back slowly. Remember that a 1/16th oz jig on 6 lbs test will fall approximatley 1 foot per second. 4) Summer time I focus on main lake brush piles, try to keep them in 15-25 feet of water. Look for brush piles just off points, on the edge of flats near channel drop, etc. 5) Fish can be active on one pile today and not tomorrow. Just keep moving from brush pile to brush pile. I rarley stay for more than 10 minutes, if I don't get bite quickly I move. 6)The bite, although it has been very good, has been very light. If you are having trouble feeling the very slight peck of a crappie try spooling up with floro or braid. Also consider a different rod. I like Outlaw, All Star, Falcon, Fenwick. Just last week I took a guy with me and he couldn't get a bite, switch his gear and he started catching a few. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Brad

Farrell 5.060 Big Crappie 1. Hall. / Reth 1.635 Congrats to the winners. Everybody did an excellent job bringing in some nice fish. The conditions were tough for most but these guys found a way to get it done. Hope to see ya at next month's tournament. Brad
  10. Zac, Don't know about the eye's right now, you should be able to catch some off main lake points and even on the flats. However the crappie are hot, hot and hotter! Went Monday for a few hours and caught 50-60 fish. Fished main lake brushpiles in 15-20 fow. The fish were on top of the brush. Only used jig, 1/8th oz lead head with blues, grays, whites. Color did make a difference so keep switching. When you pull up to a brush pile you will know within 5 minutes if the fish on the pile are going to be active. Good luck and keep your line wet! Brad

  12. I think Big was 4.15 Brad
  13. First place was 5 fish at 11.82 or close to it. Brad
  14. Bob will post the results from last nights tournament. The problem - he's still crying because his partner didn't grab the net on a 14" fish!?! If you tie on an 1/8 ounce jig just drop it straight to the bottom and vertical jig it. Move across the points slowly, make sure you have just enough line out to keep the jig/nighcrawler combo on the bottom. It won't take long and you'll have it perfected. Just about any of the points with rocks are really good right now, just get out and give it a go and you'll enjoy it. I should call Bob to console him about that fish last night but I think I'll go fishing instead! Brad
  15. Friday morning I caught a crappie over a brush pile just when I looked down here came a torpedo following. About a three foot muskie chased that fish all the way to the top of the water. Not sure who the fish feared most, but after he is baptized in lake crisco tonight I think he would rather have his chances with the muskie! I've heard a lot of bad things about the muskie ruining the crappie fishing at Pomme, however the next four fish from that brush pile were 12". Don't think they've hurt it much, but if you think so be my guest and stay away! Brad
  16. Had the wonderful opportunity to spend the last three days on Pomme. What a blast!! The crappie bite is good to excellent. The only problem I had was it took five shorts (of course most were 8 7/8") to catch one keeper. However when they bite like crazy it's not too much of a deal. Here's the lowdown: Standing Timber - Most fish that came from standing timber were better quality, however the lake is still 3-4' high and most of the trees are difficult to find. The next week should help the lake tremendously. Started by pitching jigs and then went up and vertical jigged. Brush Piles - Large quantity of fish came from brush piles. It seemed like more shorts were on brush than trees, however we did catch a few hogs on the piles. Fish brush anywhere from 15 fow to 30 fow. Most fish were caught vertical just on top of the brush. However casting to the pile, counting down and slowly reeling it back produced several. Jigs, Jigs and more Jigs - Never bought or used a minnow all weekend, however according to the report after the tournament that was probably a mistake! The lake was dirty up the Lindly to good visibility and fairly clean toward the dam and the first part of the Pomme arm. Used chart and dark colors in dirty water and blues/whites/grays in clearer water. Friday night three of us fished for one hour and fifty minutes. We had over 125 crappie, most were just short of keeper status, however we did have plenty of fish to clean when we came in. Good luck to all and get out and give Pomme a try! Brad
  17. Crappie Slayers Tournament Series Lake Pomme De Terre June 12th, 2010 Pittsburg State Park 7 Fish TOP FIVE: 1. Hallemier/Reth 6.650 2. Bacon/Bacon 5.860 3. Farrell/Farrell 5.740 4. 18. I've always felt the same about both bass and crappie on Pomme. Every time I go I think, "Man the fishing is going to be great next year!" Been saying that for five years now and I'm still catching a lot of the same size fish. Oh well, it's is a blast! Brad
  19. Crappie Slayers Tournament Series Lake Pomme De Terre June 12th, 2010 Pittsburg State Park 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM Weigh 7 Crappie Entry Fee $40 Boat $10 Big Crappie I'm headed out on Thursday morning for some camping and hope to locate some big slabs! Haven't been on Pomme since the last tournament, looks like the water lever is getting under control, if you have any current reports feel free to share!!! If you need any info you can e-mail me at shockley32@hotmail.com, I can get my e-mail from the lake. Will give report on crappie fishing when I get back. Hope to see several there! Brad
  20. A few have started, look for the topwater to get good pretty soon. Brad
  21. It's better than nothing, I'm headed out Thursday to camp for a few. Will give report when I get back. Brad
  22. Sounds like a great day! Fished the Thursday Night Tournament and caught several bass. A few came from main lake points however the majority were up in the bushes halfway back in the creeks. Did catch some on brushhogs and senko's however the jig produced most of the bites. Only one keeper but caught several 14's. We would a stretch of bank and catch them real good for 30-40 yards and then nothing for a couple hundred yards. Brad
  23. State Park Marina, Orleans Trial - Not sure the size on them but some seem huge!!!! Brad
  24. They have been running 2800 cfs for about a week now, they started last Wednesday. The lake is dropping approximately 1/2 a foot each day. We are currently 9.8 feet high. If they continue on this pace the lake will be normal in about two weeks. That is, of course, dependent upon no more rain and the same rate of withdraw. I can live with water 5-6' high but man this 10+ stuff is killing me!!!! Brad
  25. Sounds like a great trip! Brad
