  1. Captain Joe, Those are impressive looking pics there. Thanks for posting. I have a fishin bud who has the same setup on the front of his boat but is having problems. The main trouble I think is that the transducer is very undependable. When going from place to place each time he puts the trolling motor back into the water it's a crap shoot on how long if at all it will take the unit to lock on to the bottom. It is very frustrating with this level of equipment. He has replaced the transducer but still no luck. Any suggestions?
  2. If you got a bait sinking horizontally it sounds to me like a defect. I had a McStick sinking rather quickly tail down and realized the BBs had shifted and lodged in the rear of the bait. Apparently the casting motion of loading the rod tip wedged the BBs back there in the rear of the chamber. To alleviate this from happening again I took a short piece of a paper clip and heated it quite nicely with a cigarette lighter and then I inserted it in a vertical attitude by pressing it against the tail of the bait and allowing it to melt itself into the bait. I very carefully used a dremel to trim the clip excess length and put some clear sealer over the entry point. Now the BBs cannot roll rearward quite as far and get lodged. It also helps to protect these baits from excess heat.
  3. Since you won't be going to the moon with it you can survive fairly well with the above suggestions. I'll just contribute another simple thought or two. 1) If you use one rod/reel combo as sort of a multipurpose outfit don't forget to make minor brake/spool adjustments as the weight of your bait changes. 2) Learning to cast the baitcaster was facilitated by placing a magazine under my casting arm and held against my body with my casting arm. Try to learn to cast without dropping the magazine. GETFISHED !!!
  4. What's their purpose? Is it intended to help you quit? If that's the case it doesn't make sense to me. If the intent is to allow someone a smoke without polluting the air or their body......... well I have some swampland ya might be interested in.
  5. Here's a couple of pics. I hope they're good enough to be useful This pic is the easyview with my homemade one just barely visible to the right. My cabinet lid has an aluminum support brace on the inside that I mounted to. The easyview system can be mounted that way or with glued on. GETFISHED !!!
  6. Hey Captain Joe. That is a great place to get ideas. I read it regularly. I'll step out to the garage here in a minute a get a pic or two for you guys. It's 18 degrees here and snowing. GETFISHED !!!
  7. Captain Joe has a good setup there. You have a few options for small bags of plastics. using the product from Cooks or the easy view system is one option and works good. I have an easy view system and I like it and would recommend it. I'm sure the Cook's is good also. Another option is one that I chose. The easyview system was fine but I needed more. I didn't want to part with too much more of my cash so I decided to see if I could build my own. I went out to the barn and found some aluminum (no rust) strap that was suitable. It was approximately 1/2" to 3/4" wide and approximately 1/8" ? thick. I cut 3 or 4 straps of this to length to fit under my lids. Next I went to the hardware store and bought a package of 25 or so stainless steel (no rust) screws of the proper length. You could also probably use some short aluminum rivets(no rust). The final ingredient I picked up at an office supply store. It was convention/delegate badge clips. I screwed or riveted these to the strap after I had marked the mounting holes and drilled them. The whole process was not very expensive and if you don't have some suitable aluminum strap available you can pick it up at the hardware store. You end up with a product that will utilize your particular space just right. Before I drilled any holes and after I cut my straps to length I laid the straps out on a flat surface and placed various bags of plastic over them to get an idea of just exactly how to space them and how much distance to allow vertically between bag clipmounts so that I could maximize the space yet still be able to get a quick idea of what was hanging there with a quick glance. This turned out to be good because a bag of 10" worms takes up a different amount of space than a bag of tubes or grubs. This way I ended up with a custom arrangement which accommodated the majority of the baits I normally use. When I go to a different lake or fish specifically for a different species I can hang some baits up there that will be used on that outing. GETFISHED!!!
  8. They should have bulletin board at all boat ramps posting glossy photos of these type folks. These boards should be weather proof and vandal proof and the expense should be borne by those whose pictures are posted. They should only be removed by doing public community service on busy summer weekends at a minimum of 3 public ramps including the ramp closest to the place where the crime occurred. I realize everybody wants to go to heaven...............nobody wants to die.
  9. Too many options! I'd probably start with the 3rd week in April as my #1 choice. Depending on weather and water I might need to push it one way or the other a little bit. Tough question for me. I know June can be incredible with more stable weather and water. Are you wanting numbers or size. Are you strictly focusing on Bass or including other species? GETFISHED !!!
  10. That's.........well that's just an uh uhhhh an approximation right? I mean...... you didn't stay up last night and cou, naw you couldn't of.
  11. Another launch location that I would be happy to go out of is Aunt's Creek. There's lots of good everything right there within just a couple of miles. I'm not a local but I'm sure there are some other good choices as well.
  12. OK, good info here. I'm not trying to divert the thread but could use a bit more info. As a general rule are we going to have the same interference issues when running two units on the same boat?
  13. That's pretty good feedback you already got there. I used to have that model Lowrance and it will do the trick once you get it dialed in. Occasionally I would have a challenge to keep the lure in the transducer cone.
  14. Thanks for returning with an additional clarification. I appreciate it. I'm just not the sharpest pencil in the box. It sounds good for this season.
  15. If you guys want to shop local you might try basswishes.com. This guy doesn't live very far from LOZ. He carries McSticks and Megabass also.
  16. I use a 6'6" medium with a moderate tip. The tip is probably slower than most guys use. I use 8lb fluoro. Because of the tip I always make sure the hooks are razor sharp and I use a gradual sweeping pull as opposed to crossing their eyes type of hookset. Works for me.
  17. I'm not sure I understood your opinion. If there is a big bait die off and slow fishing, If there are lots of hungry fish wouldn't that make good fishing? I must have missed something. is there any more explanation for a slow learner like me?
  18. Woo !!! Hoo !!!!!!!!! I just downloaded my unit with the new software. It was FREE. I am pumped. I can't wait to get on the water to try it out!! GETFISHED !!!
  19. What's the limit on those? I've never shot one. Are we still talking bout huntin ?
  20. The only losers here are the ducks. I mean ........... you don't shoot and release do you?
  21. Maybe if you just go "comando" they won't be none to get in a wad! JK All in fun.
  22. This thread has some interesting perspectives mentioned. I enjoy seeing a trophy sized specimen of any species. I don't like the sacrifice of an animal for wall art. The really large largemouth like 20 lbs and up really look more like an unhealthy obese example of a species. I prefer those in the 8-15 lb range. If I remember correctly some of those world class bass from California were caught using sight fishing techniques and exerting long periods of persistence. This doesn't really measure up to what I call fishing even though it may be legal.
  23. If a seal has failed and no fishing line or other intrusive material is found the warranty may be obligated to cover. Have you pulled the prop to look for anything that may have violated the seal? I expect the seal is going to be the culprit. It may be defective or it may have been violated with fishing line or something else.A lot will probably determined by the exact verbiage used. You may end up having to pursue an insurance claim. Sometimes impact can originate enough wear on the seal to make it fail. You probably should be careful with any statements you make. Good luck
  24. Nice post and pics! I guess fishing complainers will just have to get out on the water and come back with a report. when I was younger I enjoyed hunting ducks except that I didn't really care for the flavor of the meat. As a result I stopped hunting ducks. Do you like the taste of duck? How do you prepare it?
  25. I agree with Denjac. I believe the pointer does cast easier. I was recently on Table Rock where I used 4 different brands of jerkbaits. I caught the most fish on the McStick but I believe it was a result of having the correct color pattern. I would have fished with a pointer, a Megabass, or a prototype I have if I would have had it in the right color pattern. I think each bait has a slightly different profile but in most cases the color pattern is more important. I know prices vary from $4 for a rogue to $30 for a megabass, and then you have the custom paints that sell for who knows how much. If everybody tended to evolve to the megabass mentality then theoretically someday someone could clean up with a $4 rogue just because it's a "new" profile the fish haven't seen in awhile. I try to keep 3 brands in 4 colors and 2 depths. It's a disgusting life sentence but ......................
