Fisherfinder Electrical Problem
MOBass replied to MOBass's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Yep, went to the pins on the plug that go into the unit. I started at the battery, went to the harness under the bow console, and finally to the pins on the unit. All read virtually the same. I took the unit off and touched the power cables straight to the battery terminals and the unit turns on. -

How would I test for good ground? I am dumb when it comes to electrical. -
Fisherfinder Electrical Problem

When going through the boat to make sure everything was functional I found the bow fishfinder would not turn on. I took the bow panel apart and got out the trusty meter and tested everything. I found power all the way through the chain to the unit, but it would still not turn on. I unhooked the unit from the bow and ran touched the power cables directly to the battery and it turned on just fine. Reading same power at bow as at the battery. Fuse appears good. Anyone have an idea on what is causing the unit not to turn on even though I am reading power to it? My shortcut to get fishing again is to run a new power cable and see if that does the trick. I plan to 'bench test' it by laying the cables from battery to bow and hooking up the finder to make sure it runs before fishing cables under the deck. -
It is going to be an interesting year. Gander Mt. looks like they will file for bankruptcy. MC Sports has filed and is liquidating. Does Bass Pro still have a big presence in Nascar? I was looking at Stewart Hass website and didn't see a Bass Pro car, looks like Truex is with them and Furniture Row. With the big names sorting themselves out it might be a good year for independent dealers to carve out some extra business.

Deer seem to be curious about scent and will walk up to investigate things that are different and as you noted do not register as danger. I believe fish are forgiving of some scents and not so much for others. Sunscreen being the 'scent' they are least tolerant of. I believe Berkley did some tank test a long time ago comparing the reaction of fish to baits that had contacted sunscreen and those that had not. The sunscreen baits, if I recall right and that is a big if, got bit less and when they were bit got spit faster than the non sunscreen bait. Every cast though is like a mini lottery with it's own set of variables so it makes it more difficult to quantify the deciding factor in a fish biting or not. That leaves us as anglers doing what works best for us. Frankly it would get pretty boring if fishing became such a science that you could 'call your shot'.
-
None. I believe it is important to keep your hands clean and free of other scents though. I wash my hands well with a no odor soap and dry them well if I have put on sunscreen, pumped gas, eat, or most anything else that will put my hands in contact with stuff that fish may find offensive.

In my completely uneducated opinion.....Go out and throw it. I have caught a lot of fish doing stuff that shouldn't work for a particular time of year because conditions were favorable for a particular technique.
-
Fish yes, catch no, at least for me. The best bite was at the pavilion with Jambalaya and other good stuff. Of course it didn't help I left my fly rod at home. I watched for awhile and there was very little action. A few outlet flippers catching silver bullets was most of what I saw.

Swing over to the Taneycomo forum for detail on the January 1st get together. Good food, good people, and good times to be had. Pretty small crowd so far so I figured I would post over here for those that don't venture over to the trout water. If someone posted over here already, my apologies.

I am out. Double booked with stuff Saturday and more stuff Sunday. I will be down for the January 1st get together at the pavilion though.

I am negotiating with the wife unit to see if I can get away. Can we fish three to a boat? I would bring my dad and son if I make it, but given that it is a get to know ya event maybe split my dad or I out with someone else.

Lew's Wart Special or the David Fritts 7' M do it for me.
-
Count me in, but I'll be late, probably after 8. At least the pavilion isn't underwater this year. Buffalo chicken dip, crackers. Cinnamon rolls. Whatever else I have around post holiday that looks tasty.
-
I'll be off the water for a couple of weeks with family stuff and getting the prop and trolling motor sorted out. After that we need to hook up and go catch some.

Thanks, I try to get details in there that will help someone else figure them out. Hopefully I will have more to post, been a heck of a year. Married a daughter off, sent one on a trip to Hawaii, did a bunch of work with youth groups. Finally seeing daylight on a lot of things. Bad news is I felt a thunk loading the boat up, didn't think much of it. Apparently there was something big and solid on the ramp as I have a bad dog ear on the prop and ground the edges a little. Need to pull it and get it fixed and hopefully no lower unit damage. Need to get the meter out and check the 24V side of the plug to see if the battery or the trolling motor shot craps. Oh well, best get it done now and try to get in another trip and look towards spring. BTW, water temp was 56ish-59ish, banks that got sun on them first were on the warmer side.

Rough start, motor was being cold natured. Said a few prayers and finally it dawns on me to trim the thing down. Viola! Ran like a champ after that. First stop trolling motor on 24V, nada. Click to 12V, not optimal, but we are fishing. Big Cedar hollow, ran a bank with a topwater and spinner bait, nada. Hit the 86 bridge with drop shot and spoon after marking plenty, nada. 0 for 2. Headed over to brushy....get crushed on a football jig....drag was not set...missed that one. My son was throwing a ned and missed a bunch. It had been awhile since he had been on the water and he had at least three swim it almost to the boat, he couldn't figure out the slack line was a fish with the bait. Bank was just a little transition from bigger rock to gravel. Wind started to pick up. Decision time, run to Indian and have lunch and make a full day or pack up early. With the trolling motor issue I opted to split the baby, try a couple more things and then head to Hollister for late lunch. We were 0 for a bunch, but at least made some sort of contact. I stopped at the smaller island in front of Big Cedar hollow. Graph was lit up like all get out. Tried to spoon and drop shot them, but with the motor getting puny I couldn't hold us on them. Time to punt. Back to State Park and found a bank to run. Grab a ned myself and was just wanting to kill the skunk. Hit a little transition from bigger rock to smaller stuff again and the varmit was swimming fast towards the boat....no more white stripe thanks to a mercy dink smallie. That was enough of that. He ate it deep and it took a few dips in the water to carefully dislodge it. No blood, swam off strong. Enough of that. Grabbed the rock crawler and took another pass in the little transition spot. Made a few cast and finally felt some good weight and reeled into it. Number two was on and I got a couple of nice aerials out of him. After that we packed it in for a post session lunch and McD's. Life has been pretty unrelenting for about a year and it felt good to get some quality time on the water. Horrible photographic evidence provided my ace photographer....who cut off the top of my head.

I received a flyer from them in the mail awhile back and was wondering if anyone has experience with them?

I am heading down Friday. I don't see any deals hot enough in the black friday ads to go out and be trampled and I am tired of politics. I figure I'll start with moving stuff and slow down if I can't make them eat.

Been there, done that in the back of the boat. Solution was fish the deeper side on one occasion, grub behind the boat on another. Caught fish and did fine, pros didn't mind as I wasn't fishing their water. I also had a pro that was running banks tell me to throw parallel and we would leap frog cast, worked good and we both caught a limit. I'll figure out a way to fish.

Heck even at $20 each I may have to go through my crank bait box and do some culling to finance some other goodies. Might be a weekend project for me.
-
OP, Glad you are ok. Stuff can be repaired/replaced. I have been off the water for a long while and getting ready to hit the lake in a couple of weeks. This is a good reminder for me to take it slow and make sure I do everything right at the ramp and even then things can go sideways. Somewhat off topic question for the community here....Am I the only one that rolls their windows down when launching or putting the boat back on the trailer? I always figure if I make a really bad mistake or things go really wrong I can get out and not be wondering how to break the glass.

Headed that way around the 4th of July. Guess I need to get a frog rod.

Only thing left is the jerseys. Thanks guys, it went quick.

Address in PM, confirm you want them and I'll set them aside.
