  1. Is there a good standard size and color of Elk hair caddis for most streams in Southern Mo.?
  2. Well, impatience has gotten me in trouble again. St. Croix service finally contacted me and their email has been down about a week among other problems because of the stormy weather. I should have thought of that since I lived in Kansas several years and have seen nasty winter weather. When I'm wrong I say it. The person I spoke with was very nice. I won't be sending the rod in because it will cost more than I want to spend to replace the first 2 sections. If they even can since it's pre-ipc.Please disregard my negative comments about St. Croix. The service center seems to be very helpful.
  3. Unfortunately, the Fly shop that I purchased it at has gone out of business. Can't seem to keep them in East Texas. While I still had everything fresh on my mind I called St. Croix and left a long message on their service center line. If it doesn't get returned after all the emails, I'll just never give St. Croix my business again. There are too many good rod companies out there for me to waste my time begging and pleading with one. Since they are American made hopefully they will do what should be done. All I wanted was to purchase parts for a warranteed rod.
  4. Has anyone here had difficulties getting St. Croix to return emails? I have a Pre-IPC Avid that has some dings in the first 2 sections and I wanted to know if they were still available and what it would cost me. This rod has a warranty but I'm at fault for the dings.I understand the warranty does not cover this. When I contacted Customer Service they responded quickly and wanted the mod# & sn# of the rod. This was Monday. I sent the #'s Monday evening and got no response. By Tues. evening I replied to their email again and no response. Wednesday I started all over with a new email to customer service and still I have no response. I've explained to them that I wanted to pay for new sections but I guess they aren't interested and I'm fed-up with trying. Should I be more patient or stop giving them my business?
  5. Even though I'm just an hour South of Fork I haven't fished it in a while. Mainly because I don't have a boat at the moment. I still hear alot about what's being caught. They are still pulling big fish out of Cooper. Cooper or Fork either one would be good to fish toward the end of March(spawning time). Alot of very large fish come out of Fork at that time. Crappie may be up shallow at that time too depending on weather. There is a lady that guides for crappie and big bluegill on Fork. Terry Moon is her name. She does very well from what I hear. Hopefully we'll continue to get rain here. Fork was several feet low at one point during the fall and so was Cooper. As long as there's water fishing is possible.
  6. Thank you very much for the info. As far as fishing goes,Mo. and Ark. residents have to be some of the most blessed fisherman. Beautiful countryside and excellent fishing. I may just have to move into that area. My wife would like that since her sister lives there. It would be win,win all the way around.
  7. How is the fishing about mid March? I might be coming up to try a little 11point fly fishing. I will be targeting any kind of fish that will bite. Also will be wading so access point info would be great. I would be coming from Nixa.
  8. No interest.Guess I'd better fish it.

  11. Good to hear a report from here. I was gonna post on here to see how the James was doing. Sure will be glad when I can come up and fish it some.
  12. I've been told by a freind that some guides in Alaska haven't had alot of good to say about TFO rods. They claim that they break faster than alot of other rods.I know several of you on this site use TFO and was wondering if anyone has had breakage problems with the 4-8wt class rods? My opinion is that the guides were representatives of higher end rods so naturally they might not speak so kindly of other rod companies.I would like to have a TFO but was doing a little research first.Fire away people!
  13. The Penn is sold. Thanks for looking!
  14. Anybody out there fish with one of these? It's TFO's $100 rod. I beleive the signature series. How's the action? What's the quality of the blank and components?
  15. Nope, didn't say any were dead. Just wondering what they were. It's not that important.
  16. Well, they kinda look like the Skipjack Herring or the Goldeye. Thanks for the link.Cool stuff! Now I know what I'm looking at when I come up to fish.
  17. They are the chunky silver minnows that hang around the troutcam.
  18. Sorry, no pennies.Only very large bills are accepted.
  19. sale pending on reel.
  20. Dropping the reel with line and backing down to $85.00 shipped.$145.00 worth of reel, line and backing from Orvis fished once. That's a heck of a deal folks!
  21. Sale pending on the rod.Reel is still available.
  22. Sheep's Head minnows sound right?
  23. Are those minnows or shad on the trout cam today. They look like some big minnows that I started catching on the James river one day back in March.I was drifting a sz 14 flashback hairs ear for what I thought were bream surfacing for bugs. Caught about 8 of them the biggest about 3.5 inches. What a trophy!!!!!!!
  24. timsfly, I pm'd you earlier and forgot to let you know here.Let me know what you think. Thanks
  25. I still have a 6'6" 4wt. 3pc St. Croix Avid to sell.I finally broke down and fished it Saturday and it confirms that shorter rods aren't for me.This would be an excellent small stream/bluegill pond rod and the action is great for dries.Again this rod has been fished once and like new. There is no warranty but a good flyfisher shouldn't need it.Now watch me fall down and break my other rod.Anyway the rod retailed for $190.00 new(Pre-IPC).$95.00 shipped. I also have the reel for this rod. It's an Orvis Battenkil Barstock II in Black spooled with Orvis WF4F line and backing. All new stuff fished once. The reel cost $99.00, the line $40.00 and the backing( I can't remember).$95.00 shipped. This is good stuff folks. If you'll buy it all I'll come down on the price a little. Thanks and God Bless!
