  1. Well, I've been a couple of times in the marshes. Did'nt do much good because of the cold weather both times. From the info I obtained a bass taper flyline is as good as any. With the Reds you are sight fishing so I would image you won't have to shoot a whole line. Especially since it's windy 8 out of 7 days a week down there.A leader that tapers to 0 or 1x should do.We'd make a leader using 25,15 and 10lb line. It seemed to turn over well. You might want to go to 30,20,15 since you are using a 9wt.If you are going for the fish with teeth, that's out of my league.Good Luck and God Bless!
  2. I'll be there in a few minutes.
  3. That's it Flysmallie,.....Keep em' outa there till you take me fishin.
  4. What's everybodies favorite Zebra Midge size and pattern for Taney? Mine's sz. 18, tungsten beadhead, black with siver wire wrap.
  5. My wife and I are kinda doin the healthy kick too. Since I use to work in a restaurant kitchen, I do most of the cooking(experimenting). The best and easiest way I've found to cook a healthy filet of fish is this: Heat a skillet on medium heat till fairly hot and add a little olive oil.Heating the skillet first before adding the oil should keep the filet from sticking.Add some lemon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and the secret ingredient, Old Bay seasoning to one side of the filet.Put the filet in the pan seasoned side down and season the other side.It only takes a few minutes per side depending on the type of fish. You never want to over-cook fish. Cook it till it just flakes.I've found that Tilapia and Bass are about the best cooked this way. Enjoy!
  6. Yup, ya never know what you're gonna catch on the coast.I haven't tried bait fishing the surf yet but have fished the jetties. There's all kinds of critters swimmin around those rocks. I watched a guy last year pull a 30+lb. Red out of Aransas Pass. The key to those fish is live shrimp from what I understand. I'm going in June or July to Galveston if I can afford the gas at $15.00 a gallon. Guess I'd better find a surf rod for that reel and hit the beach. Flysmallie, I've been killin the Bass down here.Mostly the private lake that I fish.If you'll PM me your mailing address I'll send you a couple of my flies that I tie for LMB and you can try them on the Smallies.
  7. OK, guess I'll keep it.
  8. I have aquired a Penn Peerless No.9 and am looking to sell it.If you aren't familiar it is one of the best levelwinds made. It is 20+ years old and in excellent condition. Still has the spare pawl in the screw holder on the side. I bought it for surf fishing on the Texas coast and decided to go a different route. It would be excellent for paddlefish snagging or catfishing.$55.00 shipped.I don't have a digital camera but will try to get some picks together.Message me if interested and hope everyone had a blessed Easter.Copper@tele-onecom.net Also, I would be willing to trade for a Battenkil 8/9 fly reel.
  9. Yup, this is a great forum. I've been on some others and the members on one seem to be pretty rude sometimes. I haven't seen that here and have met some really nice folks(online that is). Flysmallie, that's a nice size largemouth you've got there.I'm waitng to see a smallie that size in your hand!
  10. I live in Texas and only get to Taney once or twice a year and have come to rely on sz.18 & 20 BH Zebra midges,Worm colored micro chenelle San Juans on sz.10 hooks and sz. 20 midges with red thread bodies, wire ribbed and peacock head.I do pretty well on those.
  11. RRV, No problem.I still have the outfit should you become interested.I didn't get a chance to use it in MO. I used my 5wt. the whole time.
  12. RRV, I have a Barstock III in Titanium and one in Black. They are as good as the originals just lighter.I've been thinkin of selling the Black one and the rod it's on which is a 6'6" St.Croix Avid 4wt. 3pc.I've never used the set up.Bought it, registered the rod and decided I didn't want to go smaller than my 5wt.Oh, it's got a new WF Orvis Silver label line on it.I'll be in Nixa, Mo. this week if you want to look at it.Downside is I'm leaving in the morning.Hope you see this. $225.00
