  1. Foul language like an Arkansas Razorback reference is apparently not tolerated
  2. Just a little weed is one thing. The article, however (if anyone had cared to read it before posting), mentions everything from weed to LSD and opium. Sounds like a woodstock style drugfest.
  3. Bottom line, law is the law. I would rather the government not interfer with this concert, or my life, unless the law is being broke. Laws exist for a reason. Any method to crack down on mind bending drugs is fine by me. I have a very good friend whose pregnant aunt was killed by her drugged up, drug dealing boyfriend. Go law enforcement!
  4. Medium/Light action Berkely lightning rod or cherry rod for me.
  5. felt on one side, velcro on the other. (Fuzzy part of velcro on the felt detachable sole) It actually would work just fine.
  6. http://www.castawayflies.com/ The author recommends a soak of 5% bleach, 5% saline, 5% detergent, in very hot water for a min. 40 minutes. While this probably would work just fine, I would question how many people would actually take the time to do this... Of course, you could just have 2 pairs, use interchangably, and make sure the felt is completely dry before your next trip. Then again, you could just ban them.
  7. A q-tip dipped in a cell suspension could harbor upward of 10^8 cells. Two felt boots certainly will soak up a few. Rather than forcing people to part with their choice of footwear, we should come up with an inovative way of ridding the felt of algae. A multiple soak treatment, or something.
  8. And also, offically welcome! May see you soon.
  9. Went out bank fishing along the dam yesterday (10/22) am and pm. The wind was punishing, and rocks rough. Managed a 5 lb channel cat, 6 crappie (3 keepers), one short walleye, and about 8 bass (mix of largemouth and what looked like smallmouth/largemouth hybrids?? several were fairly decent size) I was after walleye, but just catching one was decent for me, considering I was throwing crankbaits from the bank. Caught fish on Berkely flicker shad, bandit deep divers, and wiggle warts.
  10. Go Huskers!
  11. never tried below truman dam - that's a longer drive from ozark for me, but I have tried below the dam in stockton. Only caught white/lgmth/smth bass - never walleye, though I've heard they catchem there. I'll be fishing the rocks on the dam itself, or rather that little flat portion that sort of juts out. I've talked to MDC and it is apparently within the fishable area, you just can't cross the area that's cabled off. Last year, I lost 4(!) walleye at the bank fishing there with a stickbait.
  12. I appreciate it guys - I may give the Corps a call the day of... I'm thinking around the dam in the evenings will produce some walleye here shortly, and I have a night free here in 10 days. If I do any good, I'll post a report. (I have only caught two eyes this year, and not from Stockton, so don't hold your breath )
  13. Just wondering if the road that goes across the dam is open yet. Was thinking about going up there and fishing (bank) around the dam sometime in the next week or so. Thanks brian
  14. To add - Fished some different bluffs and found a dozen or so black bass - kentuckys, smths, and lgmths. Perhaps 5 or 6 would've kept. Used everthing from grubs, to worms, to crankbaits. Fish were typically at 25 - 30 feet. Fog made it maddening, sun made it hard, but it turned on around 9 or so for a few hours.
  15. I make my own out of 8lb vanish because 1) I don't like buying leaders, and 2) I fish with a 6.5ft rod, and prefer shorter leaders. I don't taper mine, and find it works well enough.
  16. Ditto. I might add that if it is a sunny day with the water low (0 to 1 unit), generally I use smaller scuds (in the 18-20 range). When water is up, or if it's cloudy/rainy, go a little bigger. I generally also use Berkely Vanish 8lb for my leader, w/ 6x tippet. Last time I was there, I had good success on yellow san juan worms, but I would recommend a variety of colors. generally brown, red, or yellow. Also, react to any little twitch of your float - 5/4 times it will be the bottom, but the 5th time, it could be a hesitant trout. Also, if you see many rising trout, put on a small dry. (I like ants, gnats, and adams, in sizes 18-22).
  17. +1 for less litter. I would like to see a day or two where people get ticketed for littering in the trout parks. Once a week, pull 5 or so undercover wardens for trout park duty, and start handing out tickets. What a way to raise money.
  18. Precisely. Half of my family are small farmers. The older generation farmer is fading, and the middle generation farmer has either been forced to buy more land (or farm other folk's land), or find supplemental income. Government subsidies in fact do help the small farmer, but since the industry is dominated by large corporate agribusinesses, it makes it hard for the small farmer to compete. My uncle would love to devote all his time to farming, but is forced to work in a factory to supplement his income so he can afford machinery, seed ect... He has three children - all of whom grew up farming. One is a botanist, one is a geologist, and one is a computer programmer. Chief hit the nail on the head. Good point OB though - I hadn't thought of it like that. That's the beauty of a civil forum. If the large businesses with extra capital are able to buy better gm crops, the small farmer almost has to in order to keep up - costing him more $. If there is a silver lining, it is that there seems to be a push toward more organic, non-gm foods. Some small farmers have local produce in stores and actively advertise such. We can help by buying from them.
  19. Just a quick note to tell everyone that there are still rainbow trout in Taneycomo. I was down at the rebar hole (had it to myself for a while) for a few hours this afternoon, and couldn't keep the fish off - 20+ fish (I stopped counting), with the largest at 19 inches. size 16 brown scuds and yellow san juan worms. If I had quicker reflexes, it would've been an 80 fish day. Was going to night fish, but headed home. Also saw 3 very nice browns cruising around. I haven't been up below the dam for so long, and I had almost forgotten how much fun it is.
  20. and increasing his yield. (devil's advocate) It's funny how big corporations (the ones that give salary to so many people) are evil... I think they are evil as well - just not the one that employs me, allowing me to buy things... What's killing the family farmer is not gm crops, but big corporate farms. If there was a case for feeling sore at a corporation, I feel that the the mega-farmers (where the owner sits in his office)do more damage to the family farmer than a company that produces the seed that they both use. just my two cents. Of course, government subsidies do help relieve the sting. We seem to oscillate in the U.S. between loving the big companies (when the economy is good) to hating them (when the economy is bad). I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying everyone else is wrong (jk) is putting (jk) after a sentence redundant if you already have used ?
  21. That's a beautiful fish - well done, and thanks for the report! Gonna head down this afternoon/night and throw some buggers for those browns you mentioned...
  22. And we were doing so well! T minus 4 posts until Lilley locks it down
  23. it always happens - so I suppose it is a law. When you put selection pressures on a group of organisms, the few that survive will have offspring which will share the trait. - whether it is pesticide resistant bugs, or antibiotic resistant bacteria. The more we try to eradicate our 'pests', the stronger they become with each generation.
  24. I doubt gm foods will entirely eliminate world hunger, but drought resistant crops and livestock with a genetic edge for survival and health in difficult conditions will certainly help. Something tells me that we aren't going to be sending these salmon to Uganda though...
  25. Just a quick question - I'm going night fishing for the second time tomorrow night - is there a glo-in the dark indicator that you use when drifting sowbugs? Or are the bites stronger so you dont need an indicator? I've only been once before, and only caught one (a brown) on a bugger. I'm also guessing I should tie a few in the size 10 to 12 range? Advice welcome - I appreciate it! Brian
