  1. Thank you, sir. Appreciate your willingness to share info.
  2. Thanks for the report. Would like to hear more on what crappie bait you were using (minnows? plastics?, etc.) and type of structure you found them on. Up river... Kings or White? Thank you.
  3. I have personally not found a way to prepare any kind of bass that makes them worth eating, but I do like cat, walleye, and crappie. (I’ve yet to clean a fish taken out of TR). This discussion on google-eye makes me curious on other’s opinions as to the eat-ability (flavor wise) of this fish. Do you think it’s closer to crappie or white bass? ….or something entirely different? I know it’s a personal issue, but if they’re like bass, I’ll continue my C&R habits with this fun guy. BTW.. my avatar is my favorite go-to plastic bait. Will this work on rock-fish?
  4. Guess them waders will have to wear the sticker on their thong... oh, my.... I can't wait...
  5. I got a place on the Kings and will be down there tomorrow thru Sunday. Where'd you say that dock was?
  6. Mr. Phil, Thank you for all you do. You've made this site a "must do" in my quest to become a better angler. And kudos to Mr. Bill for his willingness to share his knowledge to the masses so freely. Thank You both ! !

  10. This is such a nice thread, I hate to hi-jack it with a picture of my wife.... ...ah, come on, you guys! Someone out there was thinking the same thing!! ...maybe not my wife, but.. you know...
  11. I'd be watchin' that brother-n-law real close from now on....
  12. I am new to this forum and TR area, so am by no means qualified to offer anything except what I have observed and learned through my own experience. My wife and I bought a home in Shell Knob a year ago May, but still live in Nebraska. It was important to us to have a slip, for it was a convenient way to get out on the lake, whether in the boat or just sitting on the swim platform enjoying the beauty that surrounds us. In our case, the slip was included as part of the house sale, so making the kind of decision you're looking at was not a factor for us. I did notice, during the time we were seriously looking at properties, that the houses/cabins that included a slip seemed to sell quicker than those properties without one. That was another factor in our desire to have a slip. Should we decide to sell down the road, it seemed to us that a slip would make the property more appealing to the next buyer. Having traveled to TR many times over the years, and having seen ads for slip sales on-line and in the local newspapers, I got the impression that, like houses, a slip's value depends on many factors... location, size, condition, age, current marker value, etc. I would think you considered these factors when you bought your house, and would think the same would apply to a slip purchase. The bottom line... how much is it worth to you? No one wants to over-pay for anything, so you really should check with owners of other slips in that dock or ones near by, in like conditions, to find a fair market value. Local real estate agents can offer some help there as well. We recently re-financed our SK home due to low interest rates. With a full apprasial, they valued our slip at $25k. It's in a 20 year old dock, 10 x 24 in size, and at the time, had an old, worn-out lift. That value came in consistant with what our neighbors told us was the average value for our sub-division. Does that compare with KC area?... don't know. Good luck. Hope that helps.
  13. Being new to this forum and new to the TR area, I have been lurking around here for over a year, enjoying the exchange of ideas and the sharing of knowledge that all of you so openly give. I'm often amazed at the amount of information made available to and for the lesser skilled angler such as myself. On behalf of other members of the back-lash-every-cast club, of which I'm a member in good standing, I wish to thank all you contribitutors for sharing the wealth and making me want to be a better fisherman. I've noticed several members proudly displaying some of their finest catches in their avatar. If nobody minds, I thought I would do the same. I have seen various topics ranging from batteries to trailer tires, so I hope this isn't too far out of line... I have a slip in Shell Knob and am looking for opinions on lift dealers. I have been researching the various lift types and have received information and quotes from several area dealer/manufacturers. Believeing they all make a product that would provide many years of service, I'm thinking the biggest differenct may be in the service after the sale. So.... I'm interested in hearing what others have to say about their experiences and recommendations, both good and not as good. Again, I wish to thank all the forum contributors for making this site a daily ritual for me. Some day I hope to know enough to give something back.... just as soon as I figure out which end of a drop-shot goes in the lake first.... isn't that the name of an adult beverage?

  15. Sounds like you want something in the Shell Knob area. Try shellknob.com and click on chamber members. You'll see several resorts listed. Before buying a home in SK, we always stayed at Pla-Port. Nice people and clean units. Gentle walk to lake & dock. Can see slips from cabins. No swimming pool (except the big one with fish in it).
