spin fisherx, I left there about 5:00? I spent all my fishing time from the first island up to the rock house cave. Found a lot of fish in Coon creek but no size, glad to hear that you found some. The better fish that I found was scattered one hear and one there. With the waether the way it's been I don't think that the main run has started yet, but don't know, a month ago I was catching good fish up river, did talk to a couple of people that went up to 54 highway and all they caught was small ones for what that's worth! Planning on going back Wednesday and give it another shot!
-
I was there in a boat last Wednesday, answers to your questions? No, Yes, Not really, Boat or bank=???????. Good Luck!

Well XBEAR here's the report. Great day to go fishing poor day to go catching! Water temp in the morning was 53 late afternoon back in a creek I found 57. Did catch a lot of Kentuckies, white bass and a few crappie, had some numbers but not much for size. Spent all my time on the Sac river. It will get better I hope!!!!!!

Headed that way tomorrow, I'll let you know, last that I heard was very slow but has to start getting better. I hope!!!!!!!

Welcome wiper, no problem on the Osage below Truman, plenty of water and your boat will be just fine. You can put in at down town Warsaw, probably your best bet. There is a ramp up close to Truman dam called East Bledsoe ferry but that ramp can be quite shallow if the Ozarks is down. If you head down the river past 65 highway bridge you really need to pay attention to the river channel as there are quite a few mud flats in the upper end of the Ozarks. Don't know about below Bagnel but I think that it is much more shallow, more off a smaller boat, shallow draft type river. Fishing should be picking up, it's been pretty much hit or miss lately, just need some stable water and the corps to crack open the flood gates a little. I'd be happy to help you all I can!

Put in yesterday at 82 highway access on the Sac and went up about 12 miles. Water temp. was 48 at 9:00 AM got up to 51.5 later in the day. Water looks great but fishing was slow at best. Caught a few white bass, crappie, bass, mostly small stuff and about a boat load of drum! The most da** drum that I ever caught in my life. If anyone wants to catch drum they are hitting swimming minnows smoke and silver glitter extremely well!

binman just a question about the white bass run up the Sac and Little Sac, is it over or has the weather just messed it up?
-
Hows the white bass run going, haven't heard anything lately. With the way the weather has been I've been wondering if the run is still on or is it about over?
-
XBEAR, I haven't been since it's turned raining and cold snow? The last time I was there the water temps at 82 was about 56 and up by the cave it was 53.5. Lake is up 6' and rising, I know that there is a lot of fish up river but finding them may be a real challenge, looking at the weather forecast I'll probably give it a try about the middle of next week. I'll let you know what happens.
-
Is there a useable ramp within a reasonable distance of the dam, and enough water to run an aluminum prop boat up that way?
-
Thanks Crappie5 we're suppose to get snow this weekend, I hope that it dosen't happen down that way.
-
If you don't mind how far up the river are the white bass and what was the water temp. Couple of friends are planning on heading that way middle of next week, appreciate all the help we can get.
-
Try a Vibrac, you'll be throughing the rest of them away!
-
Nope I run a prop. Just carefull or lucky! Looks like the Corps turned Truman Dam on so I'll be spending some there pretty quick. Do you have Iowa numbers on the boat?
-
spin fisherx, I'll try to tell you the best I can, now with the lake up 4 ft. you could run with a prop probably to buzzard bluff without much of a problem, thats probably 4 to 5 miles past the house you are talking about. When the lake and river is normal maybe 1/2 mile past the house is a gravel bar in the middle of the river, rocks showing above the water level, going up move over to the right and motor on past it, 4-5' water easy, just past this is a wide gravel bar from bank to bank 1-2' raise your motor up and idle on over it carefull. Now you have a long deep hole of water maybe a half mile long? There is a shallow spot about half way up this hole I think that this use to be a ford, there is what appears to be a small boat ramp on the right 2-3' just go slow with motor trimed up. Now you have another long deep hole, at the head of this hole you'll see a high rocky bluff on the right, the river makes a bend to the left and right at the end of the bluff where there is a flat field is the cave, don't look much of a cave but I understand that it has been use for 100's of years by primitive people, often you'll see people looking around for arrow heads. Sometimes I'll go on up, but we started there and drifted back down looking for fish. The buzzard bluff is probably another 2 miles farther on up on your left, if you try to go past that use extreme caution if in a prop boat, lots of hard rocks and miles of gravel bars. There was a good water flow Monday, Tuesday there wasn't much, we caught more fish Monday but better size Tuesday. I fish that area a lot in the Spring and again in the fall, would like to hear other people experiences, it can be hot and cold day to day. There is a lot of fish up there right now! I run a tan Crestliner with a E-Tec if you see me stop by and say hello.

Pretty good campground at Viola public use area.
-
I sure have and wonder if that's not a good thing! I fish up and down from Bucksaw a lot and they have pretty much taken over. I hope that MDC takes notice and maybe change some length rules maybe allow people to take some home to eat, 12 to 13 inch bass are pretty tasty in my opinon, maybe help the largemouth out?
-
One thing to think about if you have no experience with molten lead is that it is very dangerous stuff, ware safety glasses and protective clothing and clean hands and face throughly before eating, keep hands away from your face and absolutly do not allow any water around molten lead! One drop can cause a pot of lead to explode. I don't mean to scare you just be cautious and throughly research casting and pouring lead. I have been casting jigs and bullets for about 45 years and never had a serious problem, but there were a few serious scares involved, mainly melthing down old pipe that had touch of water in it. Whenever I do that now I do it outside, pour that into ingots and use those inside in a vented area. Again I do not mean to scare you off just be carefull. What I like about making my own is to use whatever style hook that I think that I might need to get the job done. I would be happy to help any way that I can.

XBEAR here is a Sac report, went Monday and Tuesday put in a 82 acess and went up river about to the cave, there were two of us 55 nice whites, mostly mostly males, 20 very nice crappie, lots and lots of kentuckies, two limits of drum and one 10# walleye mostly caught on swimming minnows. How's that for a report?
-
Look at www.barlowstackle.com they have a lots of do-it molds and everything else you would need. I use vinyl paint myself, I cast all of my jigs and use them as plain lead mostly, I don't paint that many and just use a few colors so the vinyl paint is much cheaper for me. If I want a special color sometime I'll buy some automotive touchup paint and use that.
