A few years ago I was on White River in the Ranchette area and saw a copperhead attempting to swim across the river. When I first saw it from afar I thought it was a water snake. When I pulled up beside him I was amazed to see that it was a copperhead. The water on the White River is extremely cold (around 55 degrees) and it is a pretty long swim across it. I could not believe a copperhead was attempting that swim or what inspired him to get to the other side.
Wow!! A picture like that might be worth enough to replace the old avatar?
Congratulations. It is good see a fisherman, that has put in a lot of time, be rewarded for his committment.
That post makes me laugh and recall some other stories I have heard. My brother and Dad was guides for years on the White River and had some real adventures with some fisherman. They did not make a lot of money but made a lot of memories.
Sorry of the delay, I was out ot town this past weekend.
Jak1717, the boat was in about 20-30' of water
Tfsh4bass, I launched at the state park on the Bull Shoals side of the dam. There was enough parking for about 10 truck/trailers.
Caught several SM, a few walleye and a few white bass swimming a grub around the trees on main lake points. I was using about a 5/8 oz jig head to make sure it was staying deep enought in the water. Caught a few on C-rig ahd one on a spinnerbait. Spinnerbait was not the bait of choice for us.
Fished Saturday from 10:30 to 6 p.m. and caught 25 total. Only had 2-3 keepers. Most where SM and few K's. Caught most all of them scrubbing a smoke color grub. Those SM are fun to catch even if they are not big ones. They put up a big fight for there size.
I have been using a light weight 6'6" spinning rod to throw the c-rig. It take a finesse technique to cast it. It is really funny to watch (maybe even youtube material).
I am considering getting a rod that makes it a little easier to cast. Does anyone have any recommendation?
I like the Falcon 6'6" BooCoo ($99.00) on a baitcaster for the shakey head. It is a versatile rod that I use for shakey head, texas rig, wiggle wart, finesse jig and/or any other bait that is 5/16 oz or lighter.
Fished from 10:00 - 3:30 and caught 20 (3 keepers) all on the wiggle wart. All of them were K's except for the last one, it was a LM. Good day to be out catching fish.
I fished from 11:00- 6:00 with only a short LM for the day. Caught it on a blade next to a ledge. No wind and blue bird skies or maybe I don't have a clue what I am doing. Either way it was humbling day.
Fished Cape Fair today from 10:30 to 3:00. I caught 4 LM (1 keeper) all on the blade. They were all in water around 5 feet. 3 where caught on pea gravel banks and 1 was caught on a rock ledge close to deep water. I hope this info can help another fisherman.
