Bill,
I wish you would tell us how you really feel.
They sure picked a good weekend as far weather. Too bad it is not suppose to sleet and snow this weekend. That would make it easier for me to stay away. Might be a good weekend to head to Stockton.
I usually put about 1/2 of the spool with backing (cheap line). Since most of the time I use a 6 - 10 lbs diameter braid/flouracarbon line I will usually put a 8lb test backing on so the uni-knot will tie well. So I have a backing, a braid and then a leader on one reel. This set up allow me to quickly and cheaply set my leader to different weights and lengths. I seldom have to change out the braid or the backing. So a spool of flouracarbon will last me a long time. With the price of flouracarbon I cant afford to blow through it. I tie each line together with a uni-knot.
I have been throwing Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid with a 6lb Seagar flouracarbon leader on most everything except a jig. On the jig I will move up to a 8 or 10 leader. I like the flexiblity of using a leader.
This weekend in order get the grub to sink properly I tied on a flouracarbon leader that was about a cast length.
Today I was fishing a grub on braided line with a 6' leader and trying to count it down to a certain depth. It seemed like when the braid would lay out across the water it had enough bouyancy to keep the grub from falling. When I would straight line the jig it would pull down the braid but it seems like laying it out across the water made a difference. I was fishing a 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz jig head. Has anyone else experienced this?
CollegeFish,
I did not fare any better. I fished out of Indian Point today from 9:00 - 3:30 and could not get a bite. I fished jerkbait and grubs in 150' to 10' water. My partner threw about everything he had and no luck. The wind really kick up around midday and made it tough. I did see several bait ball and shad dying back in the creek. I talked to friend that went to Stockton today and he said it was a tough day of there as well.
Sometimes the lingo can little overwhelming if you are not used to it.
The channel is where the White River bed used to be before the land was flooded to form the lake. A swing could also be called a turn. Think of the channel as a road and when the road turns (swings) to the left or right that is a swing. Some turns (swings) are more dramtic that others. Chunk rock is around basketball size.
I hope that helps. I am sure there are many others that can give a better description than I did.
I use a rain suit from Cabelas that has Dry-Plus that works great. I have been out there for hours in constant rain and never got wet. Each piece packs in a stuff pack the size of a soda can and it sells for around $60.00 for top and 60.00 for bottoms. It is lightweight stuff so it would not hold up very to walking through a bair thicket.
take 160 (James River Expressway) East; take the Glenstone exit and turn left on Republic rd (Republic rd becomes Glenstone). Go about 1/4 mile and turn right on hwy M/Republic rd (the road runs parellel to 160). Go passed the park on the right and when the road dead ends turn right and you are a few yards from the Nature Center.

Thanks for the report. I have a hard time getting a tight line by reeling it in slack when I am jerkbait fishing. So I tried casting and moving the boat instead to get a tight line. Are you doing something similar or how are you getting a tight line?
I look forward to the seminar coming up because I have a lot to learn about this type of fishing.
Ah, I see it now. Those last pictures cleared it up. Capt. Joe, that is a great set up. Your idea coupled with getfished idea for the plastics could really make a smooth system. Thanks for the input guys.
Captain Joe,
In the picture it looks like the spinnerbait are hanging over the lip edge and not in the hole. If that is true it seems like the spinnbaits would slide off when you closed the lid?
Thanks Captain Joe and getfished. Those ideas sound great for cranks/spinners plastics. I am all about it if I can save some money and build it myself. More $ for fishing stuff.
Captain Joe since I think drywall corner board on a 90 degree angle, did you have to bend it to make it to make it closer to a 30 degree angle? It looks like the crankbait hooks are are stuck in the board. What is your corner board made of? Sorry for all the question but it was hard for me to see what was done in the pictures.
