  1. I grew up fishing Pomme for bass and white bass. The whole lake holds musky there are some good spots in the Nemo area. We always seemed to get our share of muskies, especially in the fall, when fishing for bass. They key on the same forage especailly shad and will be in the same areas. You could definately have a good day fly fishing for both on Pomme in the fall. And the more foul the weather the better. I got bit by the fly a few years ago and have had it in the back of my mind to get back down to Pomme and throw some big streamers and see what I could do. Maybe I will bump into you. I am from the KC area too. Id be happy to answer any other Pomme questions you may have.
  2. Great tie, I kept wondering through the whole thing if you were going to eat this one when u were done. You would probably need something to wash it down.
  3. Ive been told,on more than one occasion. "It's not so much what you say, but how you say it."
  4. I miss my Dad too. He is the one that gave my brother and I a great love of the outdoors and especially fishing. Sharing a river with my boys, I feel closer to him,in a different way, than I ever have. I hope when I get where Im going he and I can throw topwater plugs again, Im sure he has found all the best spots by now! You are right Buzz, you can almost feel the memories in the water there.
  5. Dont be too jealous. Enjoy what you have while you have it. When my oldest was 3 he said we were "bubbies", because he couldnt say buddies. Now he is nearing 14, and the cuteness factor is all but gone. But watching him learn to fish like a man (or overgrown kid) is a new reward.
  6. Fun fact for ya. Along with fish there are many a good microbrews to be had in Ft. Collins.
  7. Thanks Laker
  8. Arrived at RR on Sat around 3pm, and the weather was great. Set up camp and fiddled around with gear then went and bought my boys tags and not myself, just so I could help them until the horn blew , we only had about an hour and a half left by that time anyway. My 10 year old lost a couple and caught one in the fly only area on a jig as this transpired I was helping my 13 year old learn to Fly cast and he caught a minnow on a #16 adams. He was thrilled, and I was thrilled with his casting. Sunday the weather was not as nice but before we left for Church I had caught 5 or 6 on glow balls, we didnt keep any fish the whole trip. The boys slept in and let Dad fish by himself in the morning. At lunch the rain moved in with a couple showers (good time for a nap) When the rain stopped I was in such a hurry to get fishing I ripped a hip wader getting it on (they were about 6 years old) but still had good coverage up to my knees so I went fishing with the younger of the two, and we caught about 4 or 5 more on jigs and glowballs. We quit before the horn and went into Cassville and everyone got a pair of waders (cept mom, she wasnt interested.) Started raining again and man it didnt stop all night. I would awake to thunder and heavy rain on the camper and just wonder what the river was going to look like in the morning (visions of Chocolate milk in my head) I slept past the horn because it was still raining, but looked out at 8:30 and it was looking suprisingly good, up a little, but still very clear. The oldest son and I were on the water in 30 min and I was mostly helping him cast. It was cool in the 40s so there were no bugs. We were throwing glowballs again and his casting was still good, getting him to set the hook on them was tougher but he did land one, and he missed probably 5. (Im not starting him off with a bobber) I had 4 or 5 before lunch. It was kind of misty all day and after lunch the three of us fished together the high point of the trip to this point was my oldest 20 yards upstream with a fish on and my youngest 10 yards down stream with a fish on, and me in the middle trying to figure out who to help first! Now I know why my Dad kept taking me fishing even when I was a teenager. Good times, I caught a few more, but only really counted what they caught, I wasnt even paying attention to my fishing just watching them. I was chilled to the bone and not relishing the idea of cooking outside again was thrilled when Mom suggested we head to town and eat some Mexican food. (Glad we werent tent camping) Tuesday morning was just my older son and I fishing again and for a kid who has said no thanks to my fishing invites 90% of the time in the last 3 years he spent almost 4 hours fishing with me and was getting pretty good at hooking up on the glowball, he caught 4 and I think I had the same, I was just so jazzed at how good he was doing. His focus was awesome! We got out after lunch just he and I and the weather was getting awesome. Some bugs were coming off, but the fish didnt seem to be looking up just yet. I changed from a glow bug to a soft hackle. I wanted to catch a fish on something that at least looked a bit like a bug. I started swinging the soft hackle across a riffle and bam! Trout on. Next cast a nice one around 14 inches. Next cast the same. My son was still using his glowbug upstream from me so I got his attention and motioned him over. We didnt have long before we had to leave so I handed him my pole and told him what to do while I took his outfit apart. He got at least 4 more and missed a couple to boot. What a time! We had to go though. As they say always leave them wanting more. Sorry no pics this time.
  9. Great Video. I love Third Day!
  10. There is almost always room in the catch and release Fly only area. Maybe I will see you there.
  11. My oldest son just asked last night if we could go back to Double Cabin. I think next year is a definate possibility. It is certainly a beautiful area, without the rush of people the Nat. parks get.
  12. In many states with healthy mountain lion populations the "mountain lion attack" never makes it passed the "missing person" stage. It often occurs in areas too remote and the mountain lion is such an efficient predator that there are never any remains found.
  13. Grizzlies deserve utmost respect. But a word of warning. Moose kill more people in Wyoming every year than do Griz. I have been chased by cow moose and it is a harrowing experience to feel the ground shake as they rumble by the patch of brush you have just dived into.
  14. We spent a few days in Jackson after July 4 last summer and runoff was still an issue at that point. The great thing about Jackson (or the whole state for that matter) is there are so many places to find fish. If the lower, larger rivers are blown, just head to higher elevation and fish the smaller outlet creeks. We spent a half a day on the outlet of string lake and it was the most memorable day flyfishing I have ever had, we were just catching small wild cuts and brookies but you cant beat the scenery with a stick and I got to tussel with what had to be that creeks boss rainbow for about 5 minutes before he decided that 6x tippet was not match for him in the hands of such a green fisherman. Best of all I got to teach my 10 year old son to flycast at the base of the Tetons and watch him catch his first trout on a dry fly. Plus plus on the Double cabin area, just a beautiful area to cast to amazingly eager wild cutthroat and brookies, and there are a few larger rainbows in there if you can find them, and if your lucky maybe a cutbow. There are 2 rivers at Double cabin one was fishing much better than the other 2 years ago when I was there. If you take the family Double cabin has some great hiking, long or short. The cabin (whats left of it is cool) just make sure you talk to the camp host and get the whole story from him (he is great and knows everything about that place) also look for the caves with the writing from settlers inside, it is a trek but well worth it for young explorers. I hadnt looked at that pic in a while, yes that is a trout tag on his vest, from Roaring river. He loves to have them on there.
  15. We had the same while fishing for whites on the points, which was amazing on Sunday. But boated several nice largemouth 15-16 inches, nothing huge, but nice fish. Definately chasing the shad right now!
  16. Bass fishing is turning on. So are white bass. Water is cooling and fish are starting to feed up. Should be a good month to fish. It does seem like the Truman anglers have been tightlipped about whether or not the fish are.
  17. I love the new bright yellow sticker/stamps. And they are so easy to fold in half and slide in the handy little envelope they give you for your wallet
  18. We had to put our 10 year old German Shepard to sleep last week. The best camping/lake/home security/lick your kids face/snowball chasing dog ever. She was diagnosed with cancer in her mouth back in December, and the doc gave her 3 months to live. In March she wasnt doing too bad so we took her on our first spring trip down to Roaring River. You would have never known she was sick, it was like she was a couple years younger down there. It did all our hearts good, especially hers Im sure. After the trip it was kind of down hill from there. We had one more snowstorm for her to play in (she liked snow almost as much as camping). Her legs were getting weaker and weaker. Last week her mouth sarted bleeding again and her legs were real bad. We called the vet and she agreed that it was probably time. Pooch was too good of a dog to let suffer. Im gonna miss that dog, and so will the rest of the family. Thanks for reading.
  19. At least it was Free Bird.
  20. I had started to think, "you know I havent posted in quite a while", now i think I know why.
  21. Talk about deals, I wish I were a piece of luggage!
  22. Jim Baab is good, kind of a writer's fisherman, more than a fisherman's writer. I like Gierach. I havent read the Curtis Creek Manifesto. Thanks for the tip.
  23. Too many video games. Thats what causes those sunken eyes. Nice mess of fish guys, jealousy is such an ugly emotion. I will have to find a way to deal with it.
  24. It would make sense for tournament fishermen to follow a similar pattern, I have caught some of my biggest LM in the fall while whitebass fishing.
