  1. Were not taking lead shot here. We are talking small lead jig heads. You will note that this decision has occured since the new administration.
  2. Sorry the ban will cover the Ozarks National Waterway. However, it will be in effect on Jacks Fork and Current. The PETA and Enviro Nazis goals are no lead period. Just wait and see.
  3. Here is the "Change" we were promised. All waterways in the Mark Twain National Park in Missouri will be lead free next year. At least the long beaked, short legged, orange tufted looney bird will now be safe. For Immediate Release: March 10, 2009 Contact(s): David Barna, 202-208-6843 Bert Frost, 202-208-3884 National Park Service Gets the Lead Out! WASHINGTON – National Park Service visitors and wildlife have something to cheer about today with the agency’s stepped-up efforts to reduce lead in national park environments. “Our goal is to eliminate the use of lead ammunition and lead fishing tackle in parks by the end of 2010,” said Acting National Park Service Director Dan Wenk. “We want to take a leadership role in removing lead from the environment.” The new lead reduction efforts also include changes in NPS activities, such as culling operations or the dispatching of wounded or sick animals. Rangers and resource managers will use non-lead ammunition to prevent environmental contamination as well as lead poisoning of scavenger species who may eventually feed upon the carcass. Non-toxic substitutes for lead made in the United States are now widely available including tungsten, copper, and steel. The NPS will also develop educational materials to increase awareness about the consequences of lead exposure and the benefits of using lead-free ammunition and fishing tackle. Lead is an environmental contaminant affecting many areas of the world, including our national parks. Lead is banned in gasoline, children’s toys, and paint because of its effects on human health. In the United States, there is an accelerating trend to expand efforts to reduce lead contamination associated with firearms and hunting. California and Arizona have recently implemented mandatory and voluntary bans, respectively, on lead ammunition to facilitate California condor recovery. And Yellowstone National Park has had restrictions on lead fishing tackle for years to protect native species and their habitats. Resource managers recognize that hunting and fishing play an important historical role in the complicated and intensive management of wildlife populations. Because of this history, these activities continue in some parks and, in some cases, even enhance the park’s primary purpose to preserve natural environments and native species. The new restrictions on lead will ensure environmentally safe practices are implemented to protect park visitors and lands. Wenk adds, “The reduction and eventual removal of lead on park service lands will benefit humans, wildlife, and ecosystems inside and outside park boundaries and continue our legacy of resource stewardship.”
  4. OK. Enlighten us on this trout magnet. Is there an informercial on this? Sounds like something that in the fine print says **this product is not actually a magnet and is not representated as such ***trout magnet makes no guarantee about attractiveness for trout ***is know to cause birth defects in the state of california.
  5. I just want to say thank you to the admin for removing politics from this forum. At first I thought it restricted freedom of speech, but now I am thankful. This is the only place I can go and be free of the elected government constantly in our faces. Thanks once again.
  6. Fished from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Thought I could get some gas at the Beaver Creek Marina so I launched for free (maybe until end of the month) at Beaver Creek Rec Area. I quickly found out they are only open on Fri, Sat and Sun. So I fished Beaver Creek all morning without a bite. I didn't have enough fuel to burn up to Swan and then back so I pulled boat out at lunch time and filled up in Kissee Mills and relaunched at Beaver. I again had fish all over electronics and shad literally jumping in the boat. I had thrown white, smoke, purple and chartruese swimming minnows to no avail. Then my mind was thinking I have six pound line in fluro, and green mono on my reels. Now I am thinking they can somehow see my line. I tied on 3' of 5X fluro tippet I had with me and retied my purple swimming minnow and first cast sport LM. Few more casts and 1 LB LM. Few more casts and I hooked into white. Nice sow probably 1.5 lbs. Caught a few more whites before my cell phone with pictures went in the drink. I get completly pissed off and loaded up the boat to head back to Springfield. I am certain that night time would do better. Not sure if the upcoming weather will screw the whole spawn on whites and crappie. My recommendation is very light pound test line and mine were all on purple swimming minnows. Out.
  7. I was reviewing the information on ozarkanglers.com for my trip and noticed that under regulations the cost of license items might need to be updated.
  8. When it comes to guides get the best one on the water you can find. What the hell is another 20-30 dollars. Bill Babler and Bill Beck are the best. Period. Oh and good guides are so passionate about fishing that you probably won't have that much time to have adult beverages anyway. That is what the night time is for.
  9. For many years Bransons Plan approval didn't involve International Building Code compliance. There aren't building codes for backfill material. When it washed out under the foundation the material under slab was black dirt. Not compacted Fill. Plus no retaining wall like the Landing Has. How close were they to the shoreline? Evidently a little too close because the darn thing just about went in the drink. Bad design, poor fill materials and no protection of your investment via retention system. Looks like the developer just thought the water would never get that high to flood the units which is probably true. Someone failed the poor souls left with this mess. And they shouldn't have to fork out money now that the developer or contractor skimped on to begin with.
  10. While on the subject of guiding. What is the best time of year to take a guided fly fishing trip?
  11. Which maps on Ozark Anglers correspond to this area you fished? Where is this in relation to the campground at Kissee Mills where I stayed as a kid and floated beaver creek? Thx Phil BRBF
  12. It's all for fun. The only part I was serious about is the making serious fly fishermen move.
  13. Forgot to tell you to be sure and irritate everyone wearing either Orvis or Simms fishing attire (will have a real pompus better than your's look) and fly fishing. Cast very close to them possibly tangling them up and forcing them to move down to less desirable water.
  14. You will need a yearly trout permit from the state while fishing any state water with trout in it. $7. Be sure your line is not very large...Maybe 4-6lb and then use a lighter leader either tippet or 2 lb flurocarbon line.
  15. If I owned and got an assessment I would sue the developer, contractor and association. That unit was never properly excavated and was constructed too close to the shoreline to begin with. The other units as well. But is it any surprise with little to no buildings in Branson constructed per ICC building codes? You get what you pay for in Branson.
  16. Just give us a report when you do
  17. This is exactly what I wanted to say, but I must once again accept that I am no literary.
  18. Zander: Thanks for going the extra distance and meeting me this morning to deliver #1. A beautiful print. Can't express to those who haven't seen it in person how nice it is. Thanks, BRBF
  19. The fishfinder in the front of my boat is missing a transducer. The one in the back showed fish everywhere last weekend and I only boated 2 white bass, 2 LM sports and a humongus grass carp. I basically use the working one for water temp and depth. No GPS on it or color display. What kind of boat and electronics you got and I swap even with you and help you go back to the basics. Just kidding. I would really like a nice fish finder with GPS and color screen but can't part with $4-$500 right now. Like you said some of this crap is to complicated and just cause you find doesn't mean you catch em.
  20. I didn't say the most physically enduring as you suggest I did I meant being one of the best at your sport. Try it for a living up against these guys and watch yourself get clean smoked. You would be washing their glitter boats after you failed to qualify .
  21. Do I sense some class evny? So what if people have this type of equipment. We all wish we had it and beautiful women all over it and a case of colds ones. That's my dream at night anyway.
  22. You must be somewhat mis-informed about tournaments. Or one might say ignorant. Per the FLW Rules Website. . Off-limits, practice and competition Tournament waters will go off-limits to all contestants 12 days prior to the first practice day in all events. Contestants, including co-anglers on the waiting list, may not enter tournament waters to fish, test equipment, sightsee, etc., during the off-limits period. Flights over tournament waters are not permitted at anytime after the start of the off-limits period. During the off-limits period, practice and competition days, pros may not solicit and/or receive fishing information from anyone except confirmed pros and through publicly available sources. Beginning with practice and extending through competition, pros may not obtain fishing patterns or locations from co-anglers or fishing information from noncompetitors or follow a noncompetitor’s boat or participate in the practice of “hole sitting” or the placing of markers by anyone. Anglers eliminated after each round of competition are considered noncompetitors. Pros in the top-10 cut may not solicit or receive fishing information from anyone except other top-10 pros. Co-anglers who share fishing patterns or locations with pro competitors will be disqualified along with the pro utilizing the information. The purchasing of, or bartering for, information or the hiring of services will not be permitted after the start of the off-limits period. The sharing of tournament winnings in exchange for fishing information is strictly prohibited. Tournament waters will reopen for practice four days (Saturday through Tuesday) prior to registration day. Pros and co-anglers may practice alone, with another competitor, with a member of their immediate family (mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, grandchild or spouse) or with approved sponsor representatives who have also observed the off-limits period and procedures or with approved media representatives. Tournament waters will be closed to all contestants on Wednesday, registration day, prior to the first day of competition Pretty darn difficult fishing if you have never been on a lake before. So I stand by my post as this being the most difficult pro sport. Why don't you slap down the $9,000 deposit and call you sponsors and see how easy it is as you describe.
  23. I stayed out of this as long as I could. I am not a big tournament guy as some already knew because I don't think the fish should be hauled around all day. Bill is correct about professionals complaining about the ones that get away. When you fish like that for a living just go on to the next tournament. That is why you are a professional. BTW if anyone feels they are up to this level go get your sponsers and so how far you go. This might be the most difficult professional sport ever created. Some of you are darn good fishermen, but this is a league you are way out of. Maybe someone can provide the percentage of all tournament fishermen this is but I think most people haven't a clue what it takes. Performing week after week on new water.
  24. Released in Taney? Or some other crappy place.
