tley: dwiebenga is right on about the top notch info on this board. I assume you will have electronics on your boat to gage depth and fish. I am just a little beyond a beginner on Table Rock and have only fished the area south of the HWY 86 bridge to a little beyond point 6 mostly which is not too far from Big Cedar. You will see folks fishing almost every main lake point. I note where other folks stop to fish. My best luck has been with football jigs with green pumpkin, watermelon or cinnamon split tail trailers. I really like throwing crank baits and have had some success with those from time to time. I am looking at early Novemeber for my next trip down. Researching the forum and refering to a good topo lake map would be helpful. I get a lot of valuable info from my resort owner as well. Good luck.

gitnby: Thanks for the tip about the bell sinker/split shot/vaseline rig.

In Oct. or Nov. I will be staying near the dam area. I like catching smallies especially and K's as well. I understand that post lake turn over the fishing shallower will pick up and that the wiggle wart will be a good lure as well as the ever productive football jig. Typically when does the lake turn over? Any other advice? Many thanks.

I had some luck the week before and need to get acquainted with the drop shot technique. BobK: When I first started coming down to TRock I also had difficulty fishing there. I was fortunate to have the advice of the forum and my resort owner who knows the lake quite well. Once I got used to fishing the football jig things really changed for me. Now I need to try the drop shot method.

Many thanks!

I typically come down on a Monday and stay through Thursday to avoid weekends. Just curious if there will be any big tourneys that week. Thanks.

I came down to do some wade flyfishing on Taney in the mornings and then either boat on Taney for more trout or Table Rock for bass. Because the corps were already running water on Taney at 6 AM, I decided to spend the day on TRock. I fished a football jig with a fat Albert watermellon with red flakes on a main lake point. I caught several short smallies, a large mouth and 2 Kentuckies. I went around the point on the cove side and had the most luck. I caught this beautiful 18 inch smallie. What surprised me was that it was in mid afternoon amoung the wakes and waves of water skiers and boaters. It was a pleasant surprise for me. I can't wait for late September and late October to get down again. My boat was in about 25 to 35 feet of water but the strikes were in about 12 to 20 feet. See you in September and October.

Last Monday I ventured on Table Rock after a busy morning trout fishing on Taney. About 30 minutes after I got on the lake, the clouds really got angry so I motored to the dock as soon as a I could. I was by myself and I tied up so I could get my trailer and pull out. By the time I got the trailer in the water the rain had started and then the lightning! Thanks to the folks on the dock waiting for other boaters who helped me. The rain came down in buckets. Trailering was tough with the west wind, and the wakes and waves. The lightning strikes were hot and heavy at the lauch site and folks in and out of the water were scrambling. I was going to go back down to the dock to help others but I got scared out of my wits. I was in the process of hooking up my trailer lights after I pulled my boat out. I picked up the trailer's plug and suddenly sensed a tingling in my fingers. I immediately dropped the plug. A mili-second later there was a bright flash and the crack of thunder near by. That was a scary day. I hope everyone else got out without incident and again thanks to those folks who helped out at the dock.

This is a late reply to this thread. I know that area because I stay at a cabin down that way and the owner pointed that island to me when I first started coming to their camp many years ago. I agree that cutting the tree would agravate the problem as it does point out the feature. The tree appears to be there even in high water. This thread also reminds me of my fishing trips to canada. The lake I stay on there has a few rock piles and reefs that in high water become hidden under the surface. Most of these are marked by white jugs. However, on occassion, the jug ropes break and boaters new to the lake are at risk. My heart goes out the family. I hope the corps does mark the area. The island is a dangerous hazard and there is a lot of boat traffic out there that would be unsuspecting without the tree or marker. Do many boaters use GPS units while operating on mapped lakes?

Yesterday Turned Out Better Than It Should Have
Spinnaker replied to Bill Babler's topic in Table Rock Lake
Just curious about the top water hits. How deep was the watyer depth where you were fishing and how close to the shore, please? Thanks. -
I am coming down Monday and hope to get a lot of wade fishing in. I am bringing my boat just in case. I had some fair luck the last time. I usually start at the boat ramp and move down as it is less crowded during the day. This time I may start around the outlets unless it is too crowded. I assume that the weekends are more crowded than during the middle of the week but this is a busy part of the season so I am told. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I usually fish on TRock for bass but I want to try fishing for both bass and trout. With the corps running water off and on I thought I would try boating lower Taney and do both. I like flyfishing for trout too. What are the general best locations for bass on lower Taney (without giving up your specific honey holes understood)? Thanks.

I am coming down Monday, June 1 and have never fished the lower part of taney. I want to fish for bass and trout. Any tips on where to start? Thanks.

I know that from day to day you cannot predict when the corps will be running water or for how long, but based on previous years, (2008 excepted) generally will the genration be down enough to wade below the dam for some daylight fishing? I would like to come down next week during the week as opposed to the weekend. Thanks.

As my friend resort owner told me, the weather was going to be great, so the fishing would not be so great. I wanted to come down sooner but could not make it work. My results were slim but the 2 high lights were a 19 inch white bass taken on a blue/silver crank bait I cast after I saw a giant splash near my boat. 2 casts later and the fight was on. This morning I was waiting for the Marina to open so I could buy some gas so I went buy the point and cast a mid sized perch crank in about 10 feet of water. I thought, as usual, I cast too shallow and had a snag. Well the snag started stripping line. It was a fat 18 inch LM. So, although a had some shorts, those were the best I could do. I hope to get down in the fall to fish the Rock but in the mid summer, I want to fish upper end of Taney and fly fish for trout. Will they ever get the water down on the Rock so they don't flush Taney so much everyday? Cheers.

Beautiful fish. I wish I had some luck the past few days but the bite was slow for me down by the dam area.

Thanks for the info.

I might come down in later part of May and was wondering if I could get some info on the most convenient place to launch in lower Taney. I will be staying in Hollister. Many thanks.

I am glad the law caught them. I want to believe that most folks abide by the law. Every once in a while a bad guy gets what they deserve. In the meantime, it pays to help out law enforcement and report on violations. Unfortunately, greed will never be cured, just hunted. The bright spot is that there is no limit on catching the culprits.

Outstanding!

Sometime I am going to have to try the night fishing. You are using a spinning rig I assume for fast running water. It would be a real challenge for me to flyfish in the dark. Maybe when I come down to fish TRock next week I will come by in the evening to see if you are there and how you do it. Cheers.

Many thanks guys. I sure hope the weather forecast does not include thunder storms. Cheers.
