So what's the final resolution on this? I am positive it was a hoax, but I would like to hear that from a credible source.. The guy was on national TV saying that he saw it and touched it, and invited the reporter to come with him to the scene and touch it himself... Wonder what happened with that?

Yeah, the white rooster tails at wal-mart, the biggest ones I can find.. I also put on a good sized bullet sinker to give it alot of weight. I have been standing right up by the orange line and casting straight out or slightly upstream(keeping on this side of the bright yellow NO FISHING line) and then lowering the rod tip (medium action ugly stick) and reeling about as fast as I can... It seems to keep the lure running high in the water but lets the spinner do it's thing... I am sure there is a better method, I just don't know it yet...

Haven't been fishing in the lake, but anyone that doesnt' have a choice and is already at the lake should try the white bass fishing below Bagnell Dam on the Osage River. (using a white spinner from the bank) I have been literally slaying them... Here's a pic... Of course you accidentally snag a few of these too... Ugliest, smelliest, scaliest, slimiest fish I have ever seen... It's a Gar, right?

Yeah, that's gotta hurt... Hey, you watch Break.com? I have been a member there for years! I actually won their second annual partypoker.com tournament (paid $1,500!!!) back in '05.... Great website, I have noticed all the good stuff filters into there without having to sort through a bunch of gross stuff...

First Trip (guide Or No Guide)
FishinCricket replied to Buggy_Whip's topic in Upper and Lower Illinois River (OK)
I consider myself a pretty good angler, but I would always suggest hiring a guide if you are going somewhere unfamiliar and new... I will catch more fish and have a better time if I hire a guide than without one.. And remember they usually have some secret spots and such.. Ih and they usually provide fuel and transportation.. Thats worth alot... As for suggestions, I am not from that area.. Wish I could help. Run a google search.. -
I don't play very well...

That's quite an interesting looking fish you have in that picture (coming up for air, I presume?) What kinds of fish do you have there? Do you have open camping areas? I am planning on dragging patty out to Lilleys at some point this year, and one other place we have never been.... Maybe it could be your place?

Fishing/camping Between Memphis And St. Louis
FishinCricket replied to ekl-stl's topic in General Angling Discussion
First suggestion? Lilley's landing isn't too far out of the way on your trip from Memphis to St. Louis, it's ran by the same guy who owns this forum, and it's gotta be the best trout fishing in that area... Otherwise... Low cost option would be camping somewhere in the Emminence area (Jacks fork and Current rivers are wonderful areas to camp and fish) Or a higher cost option... http://www.riveroflifefarm.com/index.html I am sure there are many options between these three..... -
Dry Run Creek.....and A 5 Year Old--now With Video!

Is there a website for this dry run creek? -
I know a girl with the same last name (Ellersick), that can't be a coincidence, eh? Thanks for the advice... Now is that Larry's Tackle shop or larry's bait shop?

Thank you so much for the advice, trust me I appreciate all the advice I can get.... One of the main reasons that I would like to be a "part time guide" is that I am a full time river rat, conservationist, and outdoorsman. I may be young but I have logged thousands of miles and hundreds of nights on these ozarks rivers alone in a 17 ft canoe or with a friend in the John Boat. Not only have I spent time on the local rivers, but also on the biger rivers like the lower Current. Another reason for my desire to "guide" people on this river is to point people in the right direction when handling fish and fishing in general. I release all but a few "stockers" and I ALWAYS release larger fish after a picture. I believe in leaving a river for my great grandkids to fish. But listen to me all the sudden, I sound like I am campaigning. Thanks again for the advice, I know how some of the locals can be, that's why I was asking around for advice in the more worldy and knowledgable groups I know (like this forum).

Thank you for the valuable info... I will touch bases with these guys and probably pay for a guide service to see what they do and how they do it.... Don't suppose you are friends with these guys, are you?

This I have noticed... Here's what I got me to thinking about being a guide... I have put alot of friends and family in the front of my john boat and taken them down the stream to the awaiting fish. I have lost count of the number of people I have helped to catch their first trout in the Niangua. I figure that if I can start a parttime business, put even a little money in my pocket (not to mention reap the benefits of being a small business owner), and spend a majority of my free time on the river... Why not?

This answer is a start... For instance: By motorized, do you mean trolling motors too? And can you give an other advice for what all licensing I would need, or point me in the right direction? I would assume that I would need either insurance or a disclaimer for customers, but what, legally, is required? Or are there any MO state websites that would give me any information? Thanks again for the advice....
-
Two questions... 1.) Are there currrently any fishing guides that guide the Niangua River on any kind of regular basis? I must say I have never seen one... (though I relly wouldn't know what to look for..) 2.) What would I have to do, legally, to start guiding on the Niangua? I am sure there are all sorts of things I would need to be compliant with the state, but my internet research has yeilded nothing.. Anyone have any advice on where I would start in this process, what all equipment I would need to invest in, etc... For any of you guides out there that are thinking of how deep I will get into your pockets if you answer, don't worry too much.. I will still be working 50 hours per week at my current job, but I could think of no better part time job in the world (and a great retirement job I would guess..)

I have been having phonomenal luck on that stretch of the river using green strike king swimmers (bass lures) AKA "One Inch Wonders". I fish them downstream from me in the riffles and currents, then troll 'em behind the boat in deeper holes.. I have been catching all varieties of fish on this one color in two different retrieval patterns...

Unfortunately you are mistaken... I was there and I can attest to the fact that "they" (the gay groups) were just as drunk, just as rude, twice as perverse (groups floating down the river screaming "Has anyone seen my transvestite? She has a monsterous XXXX hanging out of her XXXX!") nor did they have a problem with tossing their trash in the river (mainly from dumping their canoes) The only marked difference I saw on that weekend was an increase in bare skin exposed and perverse acts in public. And I defend alternate lifestyles... I saw one group of guys dump their raft and distribute around 25 cans downstream. I helped them right their craft and asked them, politely, to pick up their trash.. Two commented that it wasn't their trash, and the others insisted that it wasn't their problem... A direct quote from one was "If you are so worried about it, why don't you dive down there and pick it up?" I don't care what your sexuality is, you don't trash our river and get away with it... So I beat them downstream to the agents and asked the agents to do a 'cavity search".... And to ask them politely to not be so crude and perverse on a river with children nearby...

Any Members In The Printing Business?
FishinCricket replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Make it a cool hundred a year and I am sold right now! Or just keep it at the 10 a month and I will probably be just as sold... (Can't blame me for trying... I am a car salesman, negotiation is in my blood!) Where do I sign up? -
Smallie Fishing Line-
FishinCricket replied to GloryDaze's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Didn't know there was any tricks for keeping the line from twisting up... I have just gotten really good at undoing birds nests.. You wouldn't believe the dogknots I can get untied in the dark with a gnat in one eye and a tree branch bumping the boat! -

Little Known Fact: This weekend is Gay Pride Weekend (their term not mine) on the Niangua.. Every year we have droves of homosexuals camp out on the niangua and float during the day... Just thought Iwould give you fair warning.. From my experience (regardless of the sexuality of the floaters) the canoes are usually mostly off of the river by 6 pm and no one really puts in until 9 am, usually the majority of people putting in to party are going to put in from 10 am to noon... The major put ins are Bennett Public Access to NRO and NRO to Barclay or Prosperine.. If you can just avoid these times you should be ok... Also bear in mind that the best time to catch trout (dusk and dawn) is about the worst time for partiers to be floating... Basically don't hit hte river at noon cause the only thing you catch on the river at noon is a buzz and possibly a little flack from the floaters or the MDC/Water Patrol... Good luck....
