  1. Golly gee, mister, you've got it all figgered out dontcha? My attitude comes from: 1. BEING a local (some call us rednecks, others Jake legs, it's all the same) all of my life 2. Being told MULTIPLE times over the years by locals (who were over limit or were stringing up smallies daily) to mind my own dammed business 3. Seeing my fisheries steadily decline while NO ONE does a dammed thing about it If you take offense to me calling my cousins dumbasses then obviously you just don't have my experien e and have no clue what I am talking about.. Meet me tonight at the end of the spring hole and I'll show you 20 guys who are working on cleaning all the smallies out of the river RIGHT NOW. Approach any one of them and explain your point of view.. But bring a helmet.
  2. This isn't a new discussion just because you weren't here 5 and ten years ago... The entire time that these other conservationist methods were being worked into legislation elsewhere us Midwest Catch and Release guys have been working our butts off at helping to educate our fellow angler... And STILL we have jake legs like the ones I encountered yesterday.. Those two guys seem genuinely distraught that they aren't catching big browns in that hole anymore.. They just can't seem to put two and two together, I guess... Folks like Eric have banged their heads against this issue for many many years...
  3. And who's fault is that, Shot? Or did your child have no other opportunities? And what's your point, anyway? Are you suggesting that folks keeping a limit of smallies once a week isn't hurting the fishery? Or are you simply okay with some folks raping the resource cause "das awl day gotz"...?
  4. Well I said 500 in a season (not a day), and to be frank that's prolly 200 fish lipped 2-3 times each! They're my pets all winter and I NEVER hook em in the throat or lungs, Tim... But I understand your point. My point was simply that they are very vulnerable in these holes and if you're legally allowed to keep 5 a day then the ONLY thing protecting these fish is the daily drive through of the water patrol through the park during catch and release season.
  5. What he really should consider doing is going in to Charlie Readings with a pocketful of cash.. First words outta your mouth should be "Darn near didn't get here cause of how these daggum greedy politicians got the price of fuel all jacked up!" Then follow that immediately with "I am looking to get a fly fishing set up, power bait just ain't no fun no more.." Oh, and wear a helmet...
  6. But by your reasoning all laws/regulations/restrictions are useless.. "Why bother having a speed limit? People are just gonna exceed it and we can't possibly catch them all.." That ideology is silly, truly.
  7. BPS has a sale starting the 24th, they have two different combo set ups for $50-100 ... If your fishig exclusively for trout then go with about a 5 weight... And be prepared to shell out some dough for flies, tippet, leader, etc... Good luck!
  8. I know you can only speak from your own experiences, and it's obvious you've never spent any time on a heavily spring fed river I the winter.. I've lipped around 500 smallies in one spot over the 2 months of Sundays at Bennett.. I agree that using the resource should be acceptable, but not friggin RAPING the resource. I would legally be able to go once a day to a lil river not to far from me, there's a deep spring hole where all the smallies STACK UP.. I could take my limit each day and feed my family (and some locals do), but eventually that hole is gonna be packed with nothing but (less than)12 inch fish. You tell me that's coincidence. And lowering the limit to 1 fish over 15 per day won't help (or something to that effect)? Hogwash...
  9. Nope, it's open season... http://mdc.mo.gov/newsroom/black-bass-season-opens-may-28-ozark-streams
  10. Yeah, I posted a "report" in the Niangua forum.. Chaps my arse too.
  11. Yup, kinda ruined a beautiful day, for me anyway... Goes to show you that just cause something is legal doesn't mean it's right... Anybody still questioning the need for updated regulations?
  12. Be serious, Ron.. There are lives at stake!
  13. Wanna know why I don't post friggin fishin reports anymore? Cause there's the possibility that my reports would lead to this: I showed up to NRO to test out my mini-toon and found a couple guys cleaning these.. They were dejected that they hadn't found any browns today.. He said "They were biting pretty slow, we usually limit out.."
  14. That's a real fine attitude there, Ron... We've had this type of discussion and debate ad nauseum on this forum before... If we're all tight lipped and secretive here then there's very little to talk about. I won't rail on off topic here, but my point is: You seem like a friendly fella, but you're comment here is a bit off schedule and has been proffered up by others before.. You can start a thread about it if you like (or find one of those old ones), but this here thread is asking about info on primitive campgrounds so your comment is pretty well the opposite of the intention of the thread. (see how that works? Sorry if I sound like a jerk, but someone had to point it out to you sometime) Have a good day!! :smile_and_wave:
  15. lol, ouch... Or as my valley girl lil sister would retort: "oh, snap!"
  16. Well we can always pray...
  17. How do you "know" he'll fit right in? lol And whassa big idea? goin around makin excuses for the obnoxiousness that can be encountered on a forum... Whassamatta witcha? Takin all da fun outta de job, mang, truly... Us trolls need a lil fun too, and everyone's a jackass at some point or another.. May as well be amongst fishermen (who can generally handle it, cept of course them über-conservatives and über-liberals, but them goof-arses take offense to anything, don't they?) So we all get a lil stir crazy during the winter, it ain't necessarily because of a lack of fishing.. I fish the spring all winter and I'm STILL a jake leg goofball.. So what now? Sorry bout that, FNG.. Sometimes a junkman's just gotta be set on the straight and narry... I feel better now...
  18. Toldja Wrench didn't know nuttin.... (just kidding of course, I don't know squat about your issue or about outboards, but I know that Wrench WOULD NOT "guarantee" anything unless he was POSITIVE... And I've yet to see the man be wrong about an outboard) Best of luck.
  19. Welcome, FNG!! Always glad to have a new whippin boy on the farm... Make yourself homely, if you aren't already.
  20. I saw a fisherman on one of these threads make the claim that 4 hours with the a-rig trumps 8 hours with live bait... I'd love to see that... Which two anglers wanna accept this challenge? I'd even be willing to give a consolation prize to the winner! (if the A-rig wins the prize will be an a-rig, if the live bait wins the prize will be a minnow bucket)
  21. Thanks for popping in! How bad is it getting out there in the new "A-Rig" world? Has it toppled all forms of government to become Overlord Supreme yet? "All hail King A-Rig!!" I wonder how well it'll work on beddng smallies?
  22. I'd be relying on your expertise, but I've got a box full of x-raps and a full tank of fuel, whenever you're ready sir.. (no nosedives this time though?)
  23. And boom goes the dynamite.. lol When we goin fishin? Wanna meet me at on the Gasconade somewhere some Sunday?
  24. Outta control?!? I thought it was just getting good! Took ten pages for someone to come out and admit they'd like to see it banned all together..
