I marshalled for Brandon Card the first day. He stopped in at one of the creeks in baxter and fished a jerkbait on some secondary points towards the back of the creek. He caught alot of fish but no keepers there. He fished the bait with a 1 or 2 second pause. I was under the uncorrect assumption that jerkbaits needed to soak for at the very least 15 of 20 seconds. I asked him about the pause timing and he said that I ought to see KVD throw one . We then went to a bank in the Shell Knob area and pulled in behind I think Russ Lane. We went the opposite way down the bank He just fished and started catching keepers. I asked if it bothered him that someone had just fished that bank. He said He just had to believe he had the magic bait. He caught his limit off of that bank. The only crankbait I throw is a wigglewart He was using a bandit. He said he could not catch them like everybody else with a wigglewart to prove his point he turned around and went back down the bank with a wigglewart and never got sniffed. He turned back around and picked up the bandit again and started to catch them just like before. Then we went up the kings to try and flip up some big ones but that did not pan out. He ended up just cranking down the banks and catching several shorts and a few more keepers.
.
The second day I fished with Joe Sancho. He went to a bank in the Cambell Point area where he had caught his limit the day before and worked it for most of the morning with a jerkbait . His keepers had left or were not going to bite so we went up the kings He said he did not practice up there and had not been up there in 5 years. He just picked some banks to fish and ended up catching 5 keepers with a jerkbait.
The third day I got paired with Rick Clunn. The first thing I noticed about his boat was that it was dual console so no more 30 minute rides with my rain suit choking me. Gary Klein pulled up and told stories about the old days while we waited for the first flight to take off ( pretty awesome). Rick rotated 3 different banks all day first stop he had 2 keepers on his mid diving freak cranbait. He ended up catching one more keeper for the day, but he believed his fish were there they just would not bite. He threw crankbaits, jigs, jerkbaits, shakey heads and swimbaits. These guys fished every piece of cover they came across and changed up baits frequently
