  1. I love taking kids fishing...especially when the fish are cooperative... ... Good times had by all...I'll bring my son down next year!!!...
  2. Howdy all.. Well it has been some time since I've posted on here. I visit every once in a while to see how you all are doing down at Tanycomo and surrounding areas. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right spot, but figured if not, someone would re-direct it. I have a planned trip for five days down to Tany and we are staying at Lilley's Landing. I'm excited about the trip and I'm really looking forward to spending a week chasing some bows and browns. Thought I'd pose the question here, what should we expect that week? From what I've read on Phil's reports there has been little to no flow coming from Table Rock. I am bringing along a new to fly fishing friend and want to get her into some bows on the fly rod. Our first outing here in Iowa she netted two small rainbows. Appears I can teach how to fly fish...lol..... ... We're bringing along a boat as well so plan on doing a bit of trolling, would really like to see if we can find some cooperative Brown trout this trip. Any way, any info or advise you all could provide would be great. I'm sure that we can gather lots of info at Lilley's but I'm always one for starting early...hehehe.. .. I really enjoy coming down and if it weren't for the long drive I'd visit more often. Thanks in advance and have a great one... Tight lines all!!!
  3. ...well that they are my friend. Thanks for the input...Good luck to you and tight lines!... Last year we were down there the 1st or 2nd week of June and it would pour one day and then clear the next... still managed some good fishing.. Let me know how you do!!.. Thanks again

  11. ...Hey all...my wife and I are heading down to Rockaway Beach the first week of May.. We've never fished Bull Shoals and thought about giving it a try for a day or two...we plan on fishing Taney but thought about giving Bull Shoals a try as well. Any suggestions on where to go from Rockaway Beach and what might we target at that time? Will walleye still be a good fish to go for? Crappie? Anything...LOL.. ...Thanks for the info all!!...
  12. Howdy All!!!!...Well it has been almost a year since my last visit. My wife and I are making a trip sans children...wooohooooo.... ... Any way, we'll be arriving the 3rd of May for a week of fishing and some R&R. What might I expect in May in Taney? We are staying at Rockaway Beach, did pretty good trolling and casting spoons last year. Can we do about the same? I'd love to hook into a brown trout, any suggestions there? Acutally any and all suggestions on species and technique would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions for fishing Table Rock or Bull Scholls would be good as well... I want to thank you all in advance, last year you all were more than helpful with info and we had a great time. I will post a report of our trip when we get back and if any of you are close to Rockaway and want to say hello let me know.. Thanks again all..
  13. Hey all you ozark anglers!!.. Just wanted to send out a quick note to all from us folks up here in Iowa. I still think about my trip to Tany and the great trout fishing we had. Recently went out for an afternoon of flyfishing in a Iowa trout stream. Another fun adventure...Lots of fish...I think I caught 13 or so in a few hours...beautiful fish.. Love them rainbows and managed a couple of browns and a brookie. The weather had finally turned on us here and we are cooling off. Got my boat winterized today and will put er up for the season...UGH!!..that's a heart breaker.. My wife and I plan on making a spring trip down there next year..hopefully before the weather allows for a bunch of rain. It will be our birthday fishing outing... ...Well hope you all are still catching some good rainbows down there...Hopefully on my next trip down we can meet a few of you all!!...Take care!!
  14. Either...didn't make a difference...but by fact the fish will face upstream most of the time...into current.. Let me know how you do!!...have FUN!!!
  15. Glad to help....I was trolling at idle speed for my motor..about 2.2 mph.. threw the spoon about 50 feet back behind the boat..and let some line out..the farther out you let the line out the deeper the lure will go... most of the bites were in about 10-14 feet of water...although we did manage a few in the deeper, 25+ feet, of water...a lot of fish will hit the lure and not hook up...amazingly enough...but a lot do hook up.. ultralight gear...4lb test line.. Good luck!!
  16. Greetings All!! Well I wanted to touch base with you all here and let you know how my recent week at Taney was. First I want to thank those that responded to my post requesting info, specifically Trav, thanks for all the helpful info!! Okay now on to the meat of the subject... we arrived in Rockaway Beach on the 23rd of June, Monday morning the 24th, about 3:30AM the sky's cut loose and the rain came a pourin down... ...talk about a bad omen..ha!!..we took a trip down to the lake later Monday moring and the lake looked like hot chocolate...wow...did manage to get out for a bit. Our first trip out was pretty unsuccessful, we did manage one small bass in one of the clearer coves. Saw a bunch of very large carp, and actually chased several thinking they were bass... we didn't get back out on the lake for a couple of days... I was really impressed with how quickly the water cleared. We spent some time on the fishing dock talking to some of the local folks getting some info...managed a couple of fish using bait from the dock.. We then spent a day out on the lake in my new boat...water was clear...cool...very very nice.. We drifted a bit with bait...using the drop shot method. There was a nice gentleman that showed my wife how to tie that system on the line and it worked well..so thanks to him as well. We caught a few trout, but nothing of any size...we motored down to where Bull Creek comes in..the water temp past the creek was about 52 deg.. nice and cool.. We caught some more trout with bait then as well.. power bait and worms.. I saw a group of folks go by in pantoon boat trolling and noticed that they were hooking quite a few fish..took a peak at what they were using and noticed that they were trolling with spoons...So my wife and I dug through our tackle boxed and found a couple of spoons that were trout size...started trolling and !!WHAM!!...fish on... what followed for the next two days was next to amazing...!! ... We continued to troll and we caught some very nice keepers, which we kept.. Had a nice fish fry that night...we went out the next day...continued to do well...took my two boys out later the same day while my wife had some me time, and we went back to the same area that my wife were at... we trolled for just a few min and then another hook up... as I was reeling in my oldest would cast out and bang..another fish.. We drifted, cast our spoons and kept on catching fish..for three hours it was non-stop...71 fish...AMAZING!!!..I kept telling my boys that this was just insane fishing... we were using 1/2 ounce spoons...one was gold and red colored while the other was silver and chartruese...every other cast if not each one we had a fish on... It was great for my 7 year old since it was busy and he could reel in fish or just net them...what a great day..!!.. Took my wife out the next morning and again we hit the mother load...we hooked 50 trout, plus a bonus white bass of about two pounds before we left for the day....wow....and I'm glad to say that all were released unharmed...well with the exception of the holes from the hooks... Had a couple of great family days and Silver Dollar City and at White Water...managed to get a good burn there... So to say the least it was a very enjoyable trip. I'm trying to figure out when I can get back down there to do some more fishing.. I didn't get a chance to do any fly fishing on upper Taney...and actually should have cast off the front of my boat with a wooly booger on that hot afternoon and would have probably done well with that too... I hope to get down there in the spring sometime...April time frame to see how the fishing is then...You all have a great fishery there...I'm glad I had a chance to fish it.. Sorry for the long post...thanks again all!!
  17. What are the lake conditions like these days. I know that in throughout the midwest we've had a lot of rain, and from some of the posts earlier in the year, you all had some high water levels. Are they calming down a bit? Or is it still pretty much a daily flow kinda thing? How's water clarity?? ....
  18. sounds like an eventful 30 min...just wanted to say thanks for the advise you posted on my thread...we are heading out this Sunday and the weather is looking good for the first few days we are there...I'm really looking forward to getting out and trying Taneycomo...thanks again
  19. Thanks for the info guys..I'm really looking forward to getting out on the water. I was wondering if maybe there were maps available locally for Taney. I've managed a few online, but would be interested in seeing water depths or at least averages. I have a locator so getting depths will be easy. Thanks again all...
