Friendly Request - Don't Throw Fishing Line Overboard!
J-Doc replied to J-Doc's topic in Beaver Lake
The knocking was caused by the line between the bearing and the armature. I forgot to mention that. After adding the oil, the line burned up and came out. Not in videos. The vibration in the last two vids has always dobe this since I got the trolling motor (used). -
If you or someone you kbow throws old line or backlash line overboard. .......PLEASE STOP!!!!! A) it will destroy a prop seal bearing causing a trip to mechanic for most not good for the lake, won't rot, stays there for man any years to come C) will get caught in your trolling motor and ruin your bearings My trolling motor has been noisy for some time now. I removed the prop today to find old line wrapped around the prop shaft (motor armature). After digging out all I could, it was still noisy. Here's a vid of what can happen So I added 3-n-1 oil and that made it quieter. Then I removed the entire armature and oiled the rear bearing hoping to inspect and find a bad bearing. I didn't. Just a slightly bent armature and bad bearing seal due to the fishing line at the front. Here's a vid with the 3-n-1 oil. Much quieter. Here's a vid with the prop. Are all MinnKota T motors this loud and vibrating? Or is this definatley a time to replace bearings?

It's a gamble in my opinion. They do look really nice but one has to wonder. Typically, the quality is not that good on products fir such a low price. As the old saying goes, "if it's too good to be true, it probably is". However..... If it's complete junk, you're only out $30. If you get one and they turn out to be good for the money, let us know.

I had a little better luck. I didn't get out until just after 5PM. I found a small crappie tight to standing timber and probably could have put a pattern together on it but I was anxious to try the main lake trolling before it got dark. A local guide was working my area and another guy was trolling so I didn't want to be the third wheel. I trolled through between them and worked a nearby area. No luck. About 7pm, the sporadic surface bite started. I would throw a spoon to the activity and nothing so I trolled them. I landed this fat 17" hybrid. I checked long and hard to make sure it wasn't a white before releasing. It was too big a white to throw back. :-) But, this lady got to swim away and tell her friends she was blessed to take a ride in a cool old boat while the goober that caught her checked his identification photo for whites/hybrids!! LOL Shouldn't this be in the Beaver Lake forum?

No one know for sure and it really doesn't matter if the thing was airlifted from San Fransico bay...... It was caught in Arkansas. Period. If it was caught in Missouri, it would be the MO state record. It's where the fish is caught, not who raised and nurtured it to health.

Let's get back to the spotted bass record. It will take a while to get the paperwork filed and processed but it is a true honor to be listed in the record books with some incredibly accomplished anglers. I've been to the IGFA museum in Florida. It's a sight to see. Would like to go back.

Well since you started the wake boat thing...... I agree with the above but what is worse is when they are sitting in the middle of a cove to pickup a fallen skier or just sitting in the darn cove and when you go buzzing by, they look at you the same way we look at them when we are fishing and they drive by within 50-100ft off us with the bow lifted and going slow thus pushing large wake towards you. They own the lake. Didn't we know that? (grrrr.... sorry, you started it) Ok, this thread has been officially "thread-jacked". Now back to the original point of this thread.
-
IF ONLY!!!!!!! I wouldn't complain. Lol!!!

I think it's awesome that he let her go. A true sportsman. The two biggest largemouth were not let go. One because it was dinner for his family (understandably so given the conditions and era of the day) and the other for bragging rights and fame, not for honor but for glory. I tip my fishing hat to this fellow angler and say well done sir. Congrats.
-
Oh I can understand that. I know a few who will never be happy. Lol!! Don't let them bother you though. Post and have fun. If your thread starts getting hi-jacked, moderators can and should step in. There has been a lot of off topic rants lately.

I am honored sir. Thank you!

Too many lurkers, not enough contributors. I agree. That's a lot of new members. We "share" information to help others but we all need to share from time to time.

I think it's fisherman's pride. They all got skunked pretty good. :-) I did hear a buddy caught over 30fish at SWEPCO. He doesn't post reports though. That's the best info I heard this weekend. I didn't go myself or I would post a report. I was modifying the boat for downriggers and grilling tasty striper. I did post the recipe to share. :-)

I'm happy to report that even the leftovers heated up in the microwave are still delicious!!! LOL!
-
LOL!! No problem.

And I owe you so much more than a batch of chili. :-) Geez. Maybe I should pack the Holland and swing by your place with some steaks. :-). You think the chili was good........WHOA HOOOOOO NELLIE!!!!

That will stop after you take a bite. You'll be reaching for a glass of tea quickly!! LOL!! I forgot to mention. For less "cajun" or spicy/hot, omit the hot sauce and the cajun seasoning. Then use a little less seasoning mix on the fish. A little goes a long long way. But if it's blackend cajun you want....you shall have it! LOL!!

Tonight's dinner menu was cajun blackend striper! YUM! I no longer have to wait till I get to go to south Florida to have fresh blackend seafood. I thought I'd share the recipe. You can alter as you would like but this to me is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!! So here are the ingredients with photos. This is just my "grillin' spices. LOL! I keep it simple. I mix a few together and call it good. Spices are shown for reference - 1 tsp of Mrs. Dash Lemon Pepper - 1/4 tsp of Cilantro - 1/4 tsp salt - 1/2 tsp Emeril's Original Essence - 1/2 tsp Weber's New Orleans Cajun Seasoning (Omit if you don't want your mix spicy) - 1/2 tsp Tony Chacheres Cajun Seasoning (Omit if you don't want your mix spicy) - 3 TBS Red Lobster's Seafood Seasoning (or any crab boil seasoning mix) Here is the sauce ingredients: - 1 tsp Lawry's Teriyaki Sauce - 8 TBS A1 Steak sauce (nothing is better with seafood than A1!! Especially grilled shrimp) - 1/2 tsp Soy Sauce Louisiana Hot sauce (Omit if you don't want your mix spicy) - 1/2 tsp Chocolate syrup..........DON'T LAUGH....just trust me here - 1 tsp Worcestirshire sauce - 1-2 drops of LA Hot Sauce - 1/4 BBQ sauce (I used Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce) - 1/4 tsp of brown sugar Take fish and rinse after filleting. Soak fish overnight in 2tbs of salt and 3tbs of baking soda with 1 gallon of clean water. This gets the "fishy" oder off of the meat and enhances the natural flavor of the fish without the gamey flavor you can have some times. When prepping to cook fish, rinse fish after soaking overnight to remove salt and baking soda. Place fish on clean plate and then sprinkle the spice mix over the meat. Turn meat and sprinkle on other side and sprinkle spice mix. Place meat on grill (I take alum foil and bend the ends up on the sides to hold the juices in) Take sauce mix and delicately drip small portions on top of fish. Carefully so not to wash spice rub off of meat. Cook meat unitl it reaches 139 degrees inside. Some meat will fall apart when trying to lift or check for temp. I used an automotive laser temp gauge to check my internal meat temps! LOL! Serve with your choice of fixins'. I used Uncle Ben's rice pilaf. If you like, squeeze a fresh lemon over the top. I did not but whatever floats your vessel. :-) Enjoy!

I hope to go there myself this year so I'm going to sit bwck and watch. I heard it is really stumpy.

Braid floats. Flouro is a better choice because it allows the bait to get deeper. Plus in clear water, it's not as noticable. Lead core is a good alternative I'm told for deeper water because it sinks and it's marked.

I tried the line cou terd that you can add on to any rod. Not very accurate and do mot last long. For $20, might as well spend another $30 and be done with it. Check eBay. Good deals on the Okuma Depthmaster I believe. I think it's the Depthmaster. You can buy two for around $100.

Check Missouri game and fish online. I have no idea. I never troll more than 2. That's enough for one person to keep up with between snagging baits, catching fish, etc. You'll be busy watching the sonar and positioning the boat to worry about more than 2 with one person. If two people , 2 per side is ok I guess.

Put on a pot of coffee and absorb. Different lake but same techniques and gear will work on other lakes. I know, I've tried it. I've been trolling since last summer. You only need 2 decent rods between a medium to medium heavy action rods (I prefer graphite), a reel with a built in counter (Okuma makes a good one at reasonable price and so does Cabelas), 10lb fluorocarbon line, lots and lots and lots of Berkley Flicker Shads. When I say lots......I mean like 10-20 just to start out with. They perform, great for multi-species, and not too terrible on cost. There are other choices and believe me, I've looked for cheaper but these flat out work.
