  1. No need to justify, or qualify, your decision to keep the fish. It is your priviledge to possess or not to possess. It is an unwritten law that you will probably keep the first big fish that you catch. I kept the first 5 before I started releasing. As far as "net boy", I'm sure Beeson will have a field day with that. Congrats once again for the fine catch, and congrats to the net boy, I'm postive that he was more nervous than you.
  2. Look no further than Gary Fischer, Great Fish Productions, out of Bolivar, Mo. If you have ever been to Backcountry OUtfitters, his work is on display with several mounts that Michael and friends have caught. For a custom mount, none better. HIs work is show quality. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
  3. Way to go "MC"! A tremendous fish! Rainbows, that size, are getting harder to come by every year. Definately, a trophy rainbow.
  4. Me too "fw". I thought it was my computer, so I bought a new one.
  5. Way to go Don! Glad you had an enjoyable trip. Night fishing is "always "good for the soul.
  6. It would be illegal in a fly only zone. The ruling would be for one single point hook. Cut one hook at the bend and it would be legal.
  7. "Big" bait vs "small" bait, when it comes to catching large fish, will always be a personal preference. What ever has worked for you ,or me in the past, will be the style of fishing we most often pursue. The angler's" confidence factor" has alot to do with the choice between big or small bait. Either method will produce large fish.
  8. Browieman, I am curious if your grandfather sold this pattern to Heddon. Looks alot like heddon's later version of the Midgoreno.
  9. I think Beeson needs to officially add "buzzer fish", to his list. Glad you had a good time.
  10. You got people! Talk to them.
  11. Do you want C&R in the trophy area only, so that you can keep and kill in the lower lake? Taney is a trout lake, quit trying to make it something else. TR and BS are the smallmouth lakes.
  12. I agree with "jd" Chief. I'm sure "fw's" comment wasn't meant in a demeaning sort of way. Sometimes words typed come out a different way when read by someone else. Knowing "fw", I'm sure he meant it in jest.
  13. A guaranteed current river fly. Nice fly "fw".
  14. I think that you have just come up with another "Ozarkipedia" term. "Buzzer fish", those fish caught before the horn quits sounding.
  15. I'm glad that I can return the favor.
  16. Congrats! Congrats! That covers both of them. The brook is the one that always beats me. My trip in Feb produced my first for this year. I have never caught one on the white, but have done it a few times at the Norfork. Kerry Daniels and I fished Cook Island in early Feb and not another person was in sight. We caught all of our fish on a #14 grey sowbug on 7x. It's always great to catch the river on an uncrowded day. Way to go! Double grand slam!
  17. I was on the upper end one time years back. Some where between Plato and hwy 17 is all I can tell you, simply because I am not sure what the gravel road is called. The creek is pretty small up there, lots of small to 12 inch smallmouth. Lots of snakes, some I think might have been cottonmouths. Not sure on that.
  18. Are you are refering to trout as "holdover fish"? The longest holdover period for them is the ride in the hatchery truck. They announce the stocking days on the local radio station. Business's close, schools shut down, and people line the creek bank like a parade route. C&R is not allowed in Waynesville. But like you said, it is a great place to catch smallmouth and goggle eye this time of year.
  19. Thanks "fw". Since this is an official mdc website, I'll assume what I read is accurate. What I find is the same old loophole that we used years ago before the big controversy. I am buying back my fishing gear and headed to zone 3 in July.
  20. That is way cool! History in the making. Good for you Dylan! Congrats.
  21. That's why we get the creek to ourselves during cold weather. Thanks!
  22. I know "fw", it seems to be the general opinion. What is fly fishing coming to? It was someone's way of keeping "us" away from the big browns in zone 3. That someone's initials are JR. Where can I find that "fly definition" in writing? I have looked and looked. I will still argue that soft plastic, silicone, shellbacks, and rubber are one in the same. Chamois is pork rind without the fat. I think I will sell all of my fishing gear and take up bowling. Later.
  23. They are out of Boise Idaho. Phone # 208 362 4437. Website www.loonoutdoors.com
  24. Stanley's Ice Off does a good job. Put it on your fly line and rod guides. Advertised to 12 below. Years ago we used "crisco" on the fly line and guides. Before disc drag reels, you could put crisco on the gears to keep them from freezing when your reel got wet. I'm afraid to try it on the disc drag for fear it would ruin it. I am refering to the crisco shortening, not the oil. I wonder if you use the "butter" flavored crisco, it would be considered chumming.
