  1. Hi Pete. Don't know if a latern disturbs fish as much as a headlamp directly on the water or not. But I do know that this latern that Leonard was referring to had everyone half blinded and it was difficult to fish in that area. And before someone says, "you should have just moved to another spot", Leonard, myself, and Center Punch were already occupying the area when the latern people moved in on us. This is where the common sense factor should kick in.
  2. They walked over the bank with the fish on a stringer. Don't know what happened past that point. It has been my experience that igfa is not too much on c & r. They require certified scales and a biologist to varify species. They want length, girth and lots of pictures with you and the fish and the rod you were using. They require at least one inch of your fly line and all of the leader and tippet down to and including the fly you caught the fish on. If you weigh the fish on a boga or similiar scales, you are required to send in the scales that you used. And for a fee of $25 they will certify your scales for you. Lots of paper work and lots of details. It is really hard to just qualify for the opportunity. After meeting all of the qualifications, it goes before a review board that may require more information at that time. It is a long drawn out process. My certification took almost 7 months with lots of addtional info.
  3. Thank you brother dave. I was more than happy to catch them.
  4. Howdy brother dave, will you be present next weekend?
  5. I was wondering what happened to Bob, saw him last week, but not this trip. Lucky for you Leonard, he's a beaver killing machine. Pretty soon he will have all them geese that make their nightly appearance at the top end.
  6. Won't be back until next friday. Tell you what, you come down, take my spot, and I will set on the bank and watch you.
  7. I had forgot about the latern, thanks for bringing it up Leonard. The place was lit up like Busch Stadium.
  8. Hi Duane. Only caught 1 this weekend, but I caught 4 last saturday night. Stringer weight was 23.5 lbs.
  9. In the past few years, night fishing has showed a steady gain in attendance each season. I have seen night time attendence this year in record numbers. Concerning lights, I am not sure if people are unaware or have a just don't care attitude. So, for those of you who are new to the night time game, and unaware, LIGHTS SCARE FISH AND BLIND OTHER, MORE COURTEOUS ANGLERS. The past 2 weekends have been a continuous parade of rude, loud, and discouteous anglers. Keep them lights off and quit walking all over people because point A is the shortest distance to point B. Use some common sense people. Thank you.
  10. An unwary angler had to fight for his life on saturday morning. He was fishing just west of outlet 2 when his sculpin fly was attacked by a huge cat. He landed the same big flathead that Bman caught a few weeks back. Him and his buddies were talking igfa line class record. I think I over heard him say he was using 6x. I wish him good luck in his quest for the record.
  11. This catching and re-catching of big fish happens more so in the trout parks. Fish at the parks have an established home range, whereas at taney they have 22 miles to establish that home base. This time of year brings them upstream to congregate in the upper lake. If you have taken noticed from the pictures, there are at least 4 "different" rainbows that have been caught. My guess is that new fish are moving in and the big females are yet to come. As far as lacking any luster in catching any of these huge males, not a chance for me. I love every minute of it. I can't say that I would ever tire of catching big fish. And the stupid part, the bigger they are,the dumber I want them. These big male rainbows are a rare treat, and not an annual occurence as with the browns. It is good to see t-como producing some giant rainbows once again. These big fish live sheltered lives out in the lake, so once they move into shallow water they are more inclined to be lured by a good presentation, whether it be one of your rapalas or one of our flies. I intend to take full advantage of this opportunity while it lasts.
  12. Thanks for that info Pete. Sounds as if some trout are born more wary than others. It is good that some are dumb so that we can catch them. That project that your daughter is involved in sounds interesting. She may end up knowing more about the fish we catch, than we do.
  13. Someone tell me what they know about all limits being temporarily removed from Norfork Lake on walleye and other game. A friend from stl asked me about it, and I said I would post something up on the forum. Tell me what you know.
  14. You certainly have enjoyed a lifetime of great fishing chambug. I hope I am as fortunate to experience several more. Fly fishing is my roots. I have never fly fished outside of missouri and arkansas, and frankly have never had much desire to. I have made several great friends through fly fishing, and have had the pleasure of fishing with some of the finest anglers and sportsmen that missouri has to offer. I hope you to continue to share some of your life long experiences and knowledge with us.
  15. Color is good but the eyes are different.
  16. Looks like the ticket DD. Mount a few goose decoys to the hull, and a rod holder for trolling a fly.
  17. I was born in "49", and it seems to me that I must have grown up waist deep in the warm water creeks here in camden county. My dad was a creek wader and flyrodder, so flyrodding was what we did. We fished the glaize creeks mostly with several ponds thrown in. Started trout fishing around 1960, but was only able to fish 3 to 4 times a season. Once I could drive, that changed. If you don't subtract the 4 years that I spent overseas while in service, I would safely say I have fished for 55 years or so. Would dearly love to be able to spend 20 more.
  18. The fish that Brandon has is not the 12.5 that I caught the night before. Too much red with the lateral and espescially the gill plate. Great looking fish, reminds me of the redbands at montauk in the early 80's.
  19. Some great looking rainbows, congrats Brandon.
  20. My 12.5 lber is happy to take the back seat. It is a rare treat to see this many good fish caught. And it is even greater that it is mostly OAF guys, because we can share stories and pics and good conversation.
  21. That is one giant rainbow there Jerod. You, Micheal, Bman, and Ekl have established a pretty high bench mark for the season. Just some super outstanding fish being caught this year. Congrats.
  22. your the only smart one in the bunch. good to see you back.
  23. The only fish that I know of being "found" dead was a week earlier than this report. It was found by chuck and his crew. Big fish found dead, hit the front page pretty quick.
  24. Man oh man! Here I catch the biggest fish that I have ever caught at night, and you and brandon both pull out fish that make mine look like a midget. Way to go Jerod. Congrats to you and Brandon. Buy the way, center punch's brother, Brandon caught one dang near as big. Some one is going to have to tell about that one as well.
  25. The most consistant way is to locate one and make your presentation to that individual fish. Otherwise you are fishing in the blind to a very limited population. Hope you get him.
