I fished Heartland last season and had alot of fun with it, Had some good tournaments and it is a great group of guys who fish the circuit. I also joined CPA for this season, the schedules don't conflict, but it should make for a busy tournament season. Between the two circuits there are 7 tournaments per circuit plus the championship. Some of the same guys who fish the Heartland circuit also fish CPA. CPA draws a few different boaters because of their Skeeter sponsorship but all in all both circuits are pretty fun. I fished the opener with CPA's two day format and now I can't wait to try the one day format. Like you said t1365, hopefully it draws more boats, because the payout should be even better than it was. best of fishing, and Hopefully I see you on one of the circuits Gabe Troy

Wily, a trick if there is quite a bit of current is to angle the trailer down stream and load that way

Just look for the lil guy in Camo and you'll have found me, lol

There were some stout bags from our group, I hope to be out there again come Dec 6th. Hopefully we can see some more stout bags and may we be amongst them Donna, I will probably be there and maybe we can say hello and put a face to the name.

Donna G, your welcome. I think your right... it could be lil chilly saturday morning. I think my Dad and I are going to fish the tourney. From what I was reading the top pros for the stren series will be out saturday but that is it so we shouldn't see much traffic from those boys. But it is going to make for an interesting tourney anyways..... see you out there and hopefully quite a few more boats as well
-
The tournament runs from 7 to 3 unless of course there is a fog delay
-
Just updating some information.. I got off the phone with Central Pro/am who is putting this buddy tournament together and it is an 80%payback and they are accepting as many boats as they can. The tournament will launch at 7 a.m. from Ahoy's and teams can sign up at the ramp. They will have someone there by 6:00 a.m to take registrations. I hope to see alot of you out there

I heard it was supposed to crest at around 3:00 today... at 5:00 it was 921.91 and still rising. I work at Big Cedar Marina and left at about that time, so I don't know the latest level, but I sure hope it doesn't come up much more.

I bet that was a blast... what time were you there Bigred? I probably just missed you

Well guys, I have been fishing in the evening and not doing to bad on small crankbaits. Took Dad out today and we put a hammering on the fish... 14 total and none under 14". We didn't catch anything terribly large either ; just good quality, fat, hard fighting trout. I know some of the guys fly fishing above outlet one and in outlet one were wondering what we were doing...( if anyone of you were there, here is the story) I got my secret weapon snagged about 12 feet high in a tree and broke it off, and it was the last one. My Dad had the brilliant idea of tying a buoy to a rope and launching it over the tree limb. This was pretty funny to watch from the drivers seat. Then we decided that wasn't going to reach, so we found a different rope and tied a 10 oz. lead weight to it. We got the lure back, with no injuries. The weight came real close to hitting each of us at different times. I know it had to look pretty goofy from the other side of the lake. Now I don't know the name of the area but just below the third island as you move down the lake is a pretty good spot, caught a fish on every cast for about 10 minutes. The highlight of the day was a 14" crappie that came off the first island just across from outlet 1, I wasn't expecting to see that thing up that far. but anyways, the fishing is good. Now as long as the schedule keeps up and I can keep getting my boat up there, I'll be happy.

I have been fishing from the cable down the past couple of evenings and I have am starting to see more browns moving up the lake, I have seen a couple of monsters as well. I can't wait until the run is in full swing.
-
Brownieman, You would really need the girth of the fish to get its actual weight, but by the standard weight of a bass the 24' fish shoulda been close to 8lbs and the 26" shoulda been close to 10lbs. Those are just absolutly monstrous smallies and we sure don't grom 'em that big anymore. You could fish a lifetime and never see a smallmouth that big, let alone catch one. I think I may have to make a few trips to the Big Piney and try my luck at some toad smallies You can occasionally find a good 18" to 20"smallie way up the james, but nothing near the size of those Big Piney toads.

I don't know about Don's extra hook trick, but I can guess it is sliding a feathered treble hook on the line before tying the spoon on. I have been waiting to try it out and I think the time is near. Don I think I saw you on the 86 bridge by Big Cedar earlier this week. Looked like you had a full boat

Browns have a 20" length limit lakewide and I don't know of any private hatcheries that deal with Brown trout. I reckon MDC would be the best place to look for a list of private hatcheries.

I don't think there is any high number of stripers in the lake, some may have washed over from beaver, but the numbers are not there... I would think their numbers to be about the same as the rainbow trout in the lake. The rainbows that are in there are chunks from what I have read/heard. I personally have yet to catch my first table rock rainbow. Maybe some of the guides can elaborate a little better.

Trav, I havn't been out on Lower taney a bunch per say, but the few times we have been out, we havn't been able to put a pattern to the bass at all. I am beginning to think they all got swept over the dam We have tried up in Bull and that is where we found the biggest concentration... I even tried my # 1 topwater cove and there was one bass that I saw, with no takers... the cove was full of gar as well. I snagged one with the ultralight for a lil fun . The Bass have just really fooled me this summer. We have found a few, just nothing like we have done in years past. Trav, what do you think the deal is?

According the article it is running into an unnamed tributary... If I had to guess I would say this unnamed tributary is Turkey Creek. All of the runoff that goes into lake taneycomo is generally crystal clear. The water out of Fall Creek, Roark Creek, and Bull Creek are all really clear even on into the summer months. When I was I kid I used to wade Turkey Creek as well the other three. I didn't think much of it then, but the water clarity and the amount of algae that grows in that creek is far different from any of the other three. just my two cents, and like Lilley said anything above fall creek is unlikely

I read the list posted on HPATA.com and it looks as though the Pro/am will have 44 boats this year. I believe that the emails have been sent to those who qualified for both the Team series and the Pro/Am. Captmac, I think I saw your name on the team series list, Congratulations if that is the case. I too would like to know how many guys on this site actually fish the heartland series? Can we get a list going?
-
rps, just curious but what kind of rigging do you use to get a wiggle wart 25 ft deep?
-
The team series is Oct 18th and the Pro/Am is Oct 19th, location Truman lake, I believe we are launching from Bucksaw. The team series and Pro/Am participants are located on the heartland website. The Link is.... http://www.hpata.com/fishoff/

I made it out on bull creek yesterday at about 4:00 and we found the fish. I was just having a severe problem trying to keep a good hookset. I boated the first fish to bite, a short KY. and after that I could only manage to get two more fish into the boat, one 14" and one 14 1/2" LM. I had three good bass throw my hook, and lost another 12 fish, all were shorts or squeakers. We came up on one spot way up in Bull where I had five Smallies demolish the jig I was tossing. Couldn't get a solid hookset on any of them. All in all I had a blast, but I have now carried a three day curse. I am going to take a few days off and maybe it will pass
-
Guys I finally made it to the upper end. I took a couple of buddies out and they had a blast. we were drifting and pitching crankbaits. The smallest bow we boated was 13" and the largest close to 19". We managed to catch 14 fish in total. I drifted a white jig, but it wasn't near heavy enough in the amount of current tonight. I needed atleast a 1/8th oz which I was fresh out of . I managed one fish on the jig, and one on a crank. I missed/lost another 6 fish. I have been cursed for three days now, no matter how hard I set the hook I can't keep one on the line. (see the report for lower taney). All in all we had a blast, My two best friends and I were just having a blast.

Captmac, Firstly It was nice to put a face with some of the people who frequent this site. Secondly, it took 17.74 lbs for the team series. Today, however I didn't stick around for the final numbers. I couldn't do anything right today, I had one 14" fish in the livewell, lost two good fish, and missed I don't know how many more. I got a hook stuck in my hand early and the rest of the day went about the same. I am sure it took close to 7 lbs on the AM side with two fish. The pro side I saw had a couple solid 14lb stringers.

Hey guys, I hope to see you all there, hopefully what little cloud cover they are calling for on sunday sticks around... especially in the morning . what kind of water clarity can we expect this weekend? Gentlemen, its going to be a hot one and best of luck to all of you fishing the Heartland series
