  1. I spoke with a friend of mine that works docks on the Lake, and he said clarity was fine from Rocky Branch on down to the Dam. This was as of this morning. He had not been above Rocky Branch this week.
  2. Is anyone using an onboard charger on their solar powered dock?? Mine will not work but I have been told I need to intall a "full sine wave" inverter. After the sticker price shock I went ahead and put it on order along with additional storage batteries. I was hoping someone else has been down this road and can confirm I am on the right track. Thanks
  3. Count me in. I wont be able to get down until first week of May but will hit most weekend this summer.
  4. Thanks Clay. I checked out your web site and marked it for future need. I will be fishing primarily with Bait casters and spinning rigs but taking my fly rod to use sparingly if the water is not back in the jungle like it was most of this winter. You must have caught it right in January. I found your site too late as I just purchased a custom 9 wt and now looking for a new reel. Have you considered adding a 4 piece travel rod to your bait casting and spinning line?? It looks to me like there is a real need with most companies getting out of that business. There seems to be a real price point between G Loomis and Cabelas. I purchased a couple of Cabelas this year to back up my Loomis rods due to price. Thanks for the info!!
  5. Does anyone know if Barnetts in Garfield carries crickets? ( and no, I dont plan to use them for Stripers ................
  6. CoFly, Was just about to push the button on a Lamson Konic 4 for my new 9 wt and saw that it weighs in at 8 oz. That sounds like a load. Do you find the weight an issue??

  8. The last time I was in Manitoba I spent a fortune on flies for Pike. Started with a clouser and never used anything else as it was just phenomenal. . If I was fishing Pike I would take a bucket full of Clousers in different colors/sizes.
  9. Cofly, Good to hear some folks are having some success with a fly rod. I have a place on the Lwr end and fish stripers with bait cast/spin gear. I dont really need to worry about an all purpose set-up. I have a Winston 5 WT that I would not trade for any rod in the world. A G Loomis 7 wt and Orvis 3 wt, 4 wt, and 5 wt along with more Orvis, Ross, and Galvan reels than I deserve. I have a Peacock Bass trip booked and want to take a fly rod along with Casting/Spinning gear, and I am in process of booking a Golden Dorado fly fishing only trip in Bolivia. I don't want to drop another grand on a premium heavy out fit so I am going budget and want to get one I can use at the Lake for Stripers. Thanks for the advice on Lamson. I will look into them. Thinking about a 9 wt TFO rod. Would really appreciate you posting any reports.
  10. Z we should get together and chase them around. I probably wont be down until early May. I have a trip coming up to the Arkansas near Salida to hit the caddis hatch next month. I have a place on Mulder and I think I remember you saying your family had a place close.
  11. No Wrench.................I am not that good to catch them at this time of year. Thats a 1st week of May thing at my place. Thanks for the advice.
  12. Every summer we catch one mess of Bream (Bluegill) for a fish fry and I get grief from 3 generations telling me not to fillet them but to take out the spoon and scale and clean. Am I the only one that fillets bream?????
  13. Has anyone had any success catching stripers on with a fly rod on Beaver? I plan to give it a try this summer/fall when they are chasing shad on top. Need to buy a new rod for an upcoming Amazon trip and want to match it with what I need for Beaver. Thinking a 9 wt. Would appreciate any advice.
  14. If you love to fish hatches like I do: 1) West branch of the Delaware in mid-April and again in October 2) The Ark in Colorado mid march thru early May
  15. I think it is a great resource the way it is. I only look at a handful of the forums, but do so regularly. The only addition I would like to see is one on "travel" or "trips". I enjoyed reading about the Alaska trips. I take at least 2 each year to flyfish other locales such as Brazil or Colorado. There is probably a lot from experience on this board that would be valuable from folks we have learned to trust.
  16. I fish a 18'9" BlueWave Deluxe with an Etec 115 on Beaver. I bought it last year and could not be more pleased with the boat and the motor. Reasonably priced and well built. Good in skinny water. My only regret is that I did not go for the 22 footer. The Blue Wave is much drier and wont knock your fillings out like the bay boats of years past (anyone remember BayHawks?). I am not a Kenner fan. Unless they have improved from years ago.

Dang Larry!!!!!!!!!! I have 17 days until I can get down there to fish and you are seeing them from the Bridge. I really do need to retire.

    Mid-march

I am taking a week off to fish 3/14 - 3/21. This is is the first time I have fished Beaver in early spring in a long long time. I know the stripers will be up in the river, but will I be able to fish them in the lower lake (Rocky Branch to the Dam)? How about bass/crappie fishing and techniques in the same area? Thanks.
  20. Thanks for the offer Jay but I had a friend call to say my dock was OK. Just a lot of tree damage and probably some busted pipes in the house.
  21. Thanks for info G-eye. My dock is fairly new with good encapsulated flotation. I wont be there for another week. I know there are a lot of folks struggling down there. Must have some problems with the towers as i cant raise anyone on the phone. Take care.
  22. Larry, Thanks for the report. You folks be careful. Good Luck.

    Ice Storm

It looks like folks around the Lake really got hammered. Hope you all made out OK. Are there any reports of major dock damage with all the ice? I am going to try to get down this weekend when electric is back. Hope I still have dock and boat floating! Good Luck.
  24. Larry, I missed out on the Peacock Bass. This was in the mid 60's and no one even mentioned them back then. I have just booked a trip to the Amazon next January to fish for them for the first time.
  25. Larry, Did you get a chance for snook and red snapper in Panama? My father was in the Air Force and I spent my Jr. High years (a long, long time ago) there. We tore up the Snook and the Snapper. As a kid living in the Canal Zone you could get on a bus for a nickel with your rod and tackle box and they would drop me and my buddies off at miraflores Lake to fish snook. It was a great place to be a kid!! Great post on how to tackle our Lakes in the Winter!!
