Float the Big Piney from Six Crossings down to Ross Bridge. Use Wilderness Ridge. See their website. Canoeing that stretch is the way to go. Above all... take your time and fish it hard.

Bud... my flies are from Mexico. They eat armidillo carcasses. Fed-ex some of those possum-on-a-half-shell insects and we're in business. I want'em to be strong and fearless. The youngin's patterns are known. Need some confident adults!

Thanks Brian. I love all of our rivers in Mo. Fished the NF and Bryant many times. Remember Abandoned River Ranch? Know the lower JF very well. Gonna hit a three mile stretch and fish it for about 11 hours saturday. The last half we'll watch the bikinis and their dumbass boyfriends, husbands, etc. Believe sunday we'll either float the Current down to Powder Mill or Blue Spring. My other option is the 11PT. sunday. Gonna talk to the locals I know.

Yep, I've seen Chief wear his high-tops and I can't remember him takin' them off to empty them. What I use now does collect gravel, that small, sandy crap you sink into is a bitch. Bought'em at Bass Pro for $40. They quik-dry though which is nice. I wanna say the brand is River Runners? In the old days when wearing old sneakers (low-top) I'd wear a pair of socks with'em. I'd buy a six-pack of the ankle high socks and roll them over the top of my tennis shoes. Hardly got a stone in them. Wash'em and use them for floating only. Unless you're from Arkansas...

Sounds like a great trip OTF! I've fished that many times in the past but the last was 4yrs. ago I believe. Those bluffs down below Six Crossings are mighty impressive. I've camped 4 or 5 times at that long, tall one where the river turns left and there it sits river right. Nice report... I'm heading to the JF for an extended weekend. I'll give a report with some nice pics hopefully.

If you float from Alley to Eminence, use Windy's or Harvey's. Windy's is in town just south of the 19 bridge. If you use Harvey's, their rental store is about 5 miles east of Eminence on Hwy. 106 before you get to the river bridge. Put-in is just across the highway from them at the Alley Spring campground (same as Windy's). Harvey's take-out is at their campground while Windy's is a little further down, just before the 19 bridge. If you float the trip from Eminence to Two Rivers, use Two Rivers Canoe rental. Anita will take care of you. All of these options allow you to leave your vehicle(s) so that you can float back to them. No time restraint to get back. If you choose Harvey's and aren't staying at their campground, make sure to ask them if they will shuttle you from the campground upriver to their canoe rental store (or Alley Campground as they'll probably have canoes ready at the gravel bar). I believe they do but better check. Or just take the guesswork out of it and use Windy's.

Awesome Brian! Floated your stretch as a kid, which was a long time ago. Need to do it again in the future... but would probably need a little "guideing"..... if I wanted to catch big trout. That day is near. Will bring the wife. I've always usually fished from Hale down to Hammond for smallies. Caught some nice one's up there, but it'd be cool to have a little help on some big bow's or browns. Realize we are spin fisherman.

What's are the names of the people you fished with? Met a couple who are married up here at Cabela's sunday morning. They are on the outdoor channel also. They're hunters. Chief's kids got autographs. We had a great time... I've seen'um on TV.

I watch a lot of fishing shows and it seems circle hooks are more popular for the saltwater guys. Have you seen or talked to anybody fishing the Ozarks useing circle hooks? I also wonder how a bait, artificial mainly, reacts on a circle hook. Anybody? Chomper plastics to be exact.

Hey GD... thought about floating the same stretch you are this weekend. Instead am heading to the lower Jacks Fork and either the Current from Two Rivers down or the 11PT. Can't wait. I've did Slabtown to Ross many times. You'll have no problem camping if you pull in late. Have fun... can't wait for the report. I'll give one too.

Through my teens and early twenties I used night crawlers and crawdads exclusively while fishing for smallmouth. I didn't know any better and as I grew older, I too learned which artificials worked. The thing is... I don't see much of a difference with deep hooked fish either way. I know when to set a hook, but sometimes an agressive fish will just do what you don't want it to do. It sucks when it happens, but it happens. I hate cuttin' or biting a line off with a hook imbedded deep, but we've all done it. It's better than ripping their guts or gills out IMO. Maybe, according to some of you, they don't survive when released. I would rather see them swim away and think they'll survive than rip'em apart trying to save a hook or lure.
