I have actually witnessed you tipping once....or was I not supposed to mention that Hey, it happens to the best of us and Shoal can be a darn tricky river at times. Like everyone else said...keep at it and you will get it down.

There is a slight chance I will be tied up with a Boy Scout event on Memorial day weekend but at this point it looks open so I am up for it. . List your name, screen name is fine. If you used your real name I wouldn't know who you were. CDC 2. List how many will be in your boat. 2 3. List what you may bring for food if you guy's would like to stop for a shore lunch like we did last time. Potato Salad 4. List what river/creek you prefer to float. Shoal Creek 5. Pick you preferred date to float.Pretty much let everyone choose and see if I can make it...A lot going on with the scouts but nothing definite yet

I would have to second Gateway to Reddings mill can be tricky. Not too bad really except for the section right above the bridge. Good fishing all the way down but that little rocky riffle above the takeout is about the closest I have come to tipping a canoe in a long time. On another note, I would be up for a Spring float. Let me know when and I will do my best to make it.

Some of those sure would be overnighters.... I like to take my time and tend to paddle more backwards then forwards. Scenic road is definitely a great area...just a quick drive up and down and you should be able to set up a few good floats. And you can't beat Ritchie for the fishing...it just tends to be longer floats and for sure a little rougher.

Wow...where to begin. There are tons of floats on Shoal Creek. I would suggest picking up a Missouri Atlas and Gazetteer (put out by Delorme). It does a pretty good job of listing all the roads and shows the public access. Below are a few of my favorite floats and the times it takes me (I float pretty slow though). Redding's Mill Bridge to Wildcat Park - about 1 to 1.5 hours Cherry Corner to Alan Bridge (both MDC accesses) - about 4 to 5 hours Tipton Ford Access to 71 bridge - about 4 to 5 hours Hope that helps.

Sounds like you had a great day... I put the canoe in at Reddings Mill bridge on Sunday afternoon. Only caught three total on the way down to Wildcat but I was pretty happy about that. I was just so glad to get out.

I saw that story in the newspaper. I have never met him but he has to be a good guy.
-
Wouldn't you know it stuff came up anyway. Doesn't look like I will make it down this weekend but if I do I will stop by and say hello.
-
Is this still in the planning? I missed the last clean up and can't promise that I can make this one but sure would love to come and help out.
-
I fish from Redding's Mill bridge down to Wildcat quite frequently after work and usually do pretty well. Pulled a few 3 or 4 pound large mouth of there before. I too have never fished below the falls much but have really been wanting to do a Falls to Shifferdecker float before the summer is up. Let me know how it is if you do it.

That is a nice one.... I am hitting cherry corner in the morning...hoping for some good fishing.

That took me back in time a little. When I was a kid we used to camp at Hinderson's about every weekend during the summer. Got caught in a flash flood once...woke up with water up to my mouth. Couldn't have been more then 5 years old at the time but I can remember it like it was yesterday. That was back in the mid to late 70's though.

You know, I was thinking the same thing just the other day...
-
You know I am ready. Just let me know when and where and I will do my best to be there. Going to try to get some fishing in this weekend...hopefully the bite is a little better then last weekend.
-
Hey Russ, Thanks again for putting me and the family up for a night. We had a good time but the fishing sure could have been better. I will hit you up a little later this year to work out a float or two on Elk. Talk to you later
-
Glad to see you guys caught a few. I fished shoal on Sunday near Reddings Mill. The bite sure was slow but I managed to catch one (a crappie at that) and my cousin pulled in one large mouth of decent size. Other then that it was all perch bites.
-
I float the section between reddings mill bridge and wildcat park pretty regularly. I generally do pretty good but the areas that I catch fish would be tough to hit from the bank.
-
Looks like I won't be able to make this one. Too many things to take care of tomorrow....responsibility sucks. Hope you guys have a great time.
-
Sounds like a plan. The only thing I am trying to figure out is if I can float and be back home by around 5:00. I haven't floated this section of river before (and I tend to float pretty slow) so not sure if that is doable or not.
-
If you got room for one more boat I would love to tag along. Not 100% sure I can make it yet but if you give the location and time I can do my best. Al, I am not sure if you remember me or not but I fished with you about 4 years ago at a Smallmouth rodeo. A buddy of mine and I were on a week long fishing trip and had just come from the Maramec river. You and a guy that I just know as Texas Kelly and my friend and I fished the Reubadeux (not sure if I spelled it correctly) river. Didn't catch much that day but sure had a good time hearing some of your stories.

I just checked the weather report...then logged on here to see if everyone else had too..guess they have. I say that if it is in the 40s and snowing that we postpone for another day. Weather looks good for Sunday but if it rains a lot on Friday and Saturday that may be shot too. Like i said though, this time of year you never can tell from one day to the next what the weather will be. If it even looks halfway decent I am all up for it...if for no other reason then just to float the creek and chat for a while with some fellow anglers.

Thanks, got bored and played with Photoshop one night. Just finally got around to uploading it. I have used CDC as my forum name for a long time (my initials) and people kept asking me if I worked for the Center for Disease Control so i thought the bio hazard symbol was fitting. I have been known to drink a few beers in my time. Don't generally do too much of it while floating anymore but I am definitely not against it.
-
looks like the weather report has changed a little. Now it is calling for sun and 58 on Saturday. Sounds like a decent day....this time of year you never really know though it could all change by tomorrow. As of right now I am planning on meeting at Lim Kiln around 8:30 ready to do some fishing.
-
Yeah, I do like to fish slow but I will do my best to keep up with the group. If we plan this out right we can keep the number of vehicles down. I can fit 6 people in my truck pretty comfortably (not including gear) or 8 if we squeeze in tight. if someone wants to meet a little early and follow me to the take out we can leave my truck and keep it to only one vehicle per group. save on gas money and having to park several vehicles at the take out. Also, if needed I can come up with an extra canoe.

I fished Shoal creek on Sunday and it wasn't too bad. Not many Smallmouth but some decent large mouth fishing. It is just going to get better for the next month though so I am really looking forward to some good smallmouth trips down sugar and elk. Maybe I will see you on the creek one of these days.
