  1. Growing 3 Atlantic Giant variety pumpkin plants this year. Each will be allocated about 400 square feet with only one pumpkin allowed to grow on each plant…. Growing for size. Here is a 10 day old on the 1101 Marshal from Alaska taken a few days ago. It averages about 5-6 inches a night in circumference right now.

Nice, I love wading up in that area, but only catch Goggle Eye, Spots and Smallies. Is that a long eared sunfish? Looks like a really nice sunfish whatever it is.

If you add manure, make sure it is aged or composted or else it will use nitrogen instead of making it available.
  4. Nice report and very nice fish. I have been Smallie fishing a lot this winter and it seems that some of the smaller 14- 16 inch fish put up very comparible or even tougher fights then the big 18-20 inchers.
  5. Looks good! I can't wait to start on my pumpkin patch.
  6. All good advice and don't forget to fish in the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest this time of the year. Soon with periods of daylight getting longer each day, fish will be making runs to the shallows where the water warms quicker and looking for meals.
  7. Anybody know where I can get a white silhouette fishing decal with the the Missouri shape in the background. I see them every now and then on trucks at landings, but haven't been able to find online. Thanks for any help.
  8. Haven't been on in a while, but here are all the pumkins I grew in my lattle patch this year. I already have some premium seeds from big growers up in the Northeast and will be lookin to go much bigger this year along with a new patch.
  9. I agree, winter is very nice out there... big fish or not.
  10. Nice pics... looks like a good year.
  11. I camp out of a tent there and they now started an 8 dollar "processing fee". So if I want to go camp with my dog, it is $24 (2 person minimum and the 8 for the paper work or whatever). They also got rid of the campers club which might be for the better. It was a one time up front fee in which people could call down and reserve in advance without paying anything. Too many people were not showing up after they made a reservation so they cut that program. It also does seem to be the park where many foreigners go and I think they need to realize if they fish one way in their country (especially on the river), that doesn't mean that those ways apply here... especially with the trash. If you ever end up camping there and see a site with a couple american flags hanging up, stop by and say hello.
  12. Heck of a report. thanks for posting!
  13. I really don't eat veggies besides maters and the squirels are having a go at those on the deck. I've also since pulled the cucs and squash early on in the garden to make room for the pumpkins and gourdes. Next year that is probably all I will grow. The Atlantic Giant pumpkin plant alone is over 350 square feet so maintianing healthy leaves is one heck of a project. I have spent a ton on ferts, fungicides, manuer, topsoils, etc but it keeps me very busy and will be well worth it come October and November.
  14. Welcome!
  15. Here she is at 23 days pushing 100lbs according to 3 measurements (OTT). She still drinks natty light too.
  16. I used to track fish out of the Columbia Environmental Research Center south of town, and we had an aquatic entomologist who worked there who used to love fishing Hinkson creek mostly for sunfish, but he said bass were there. He never said what type of bass.
  17. Everything is out of control with lots of big fruit. Got some pumpkins growing along the upper part of fence on ledges. The last pic is of a giant type of pumpkin at 10 days old averaging 4 inches in circumference a day.
  18. It’s a beautiful spot, but not only does it attract Missouri morons, but the out of state ones as well. There was one group from Kentucky who I came across and they said they do this trip annually. I felt bad for the young boy they had with them whose dad and uncle were so drunk by the end of the day they were having him trying to snag water snakes as they were all “thought” to be venomous. I find worm containers there all the time and see people keep well over their limits. Most of this takes place below the river confluence in parts not patrolled as much.
  19. Great pics
  20. I used to use Indian Ford Resort in Vienna off 42 as my main canoe shuttle. I believe they are closed after the floods 2 years back. Does anyone know of a canoe outfitter in or around Vienna (not west of Rolla)? Thanks
  21. I added a few things to mine to help make trips easier. I bought a bungee kit online with cleats for 20 bucks and the entire yack now has bungee all over it to keep stuff strapped down. I also added a retracteable dog leash anchor system utilizing a 40 foot large breed leash, 1 anchor and a few cleats to run to the back or front. The leash sits at my side and I can pull or drop the anchor without a mess. Rod holders are another easy mod (mine holds 4, but I usually only bring 2). I recommend mounting them behind you which I learned the hard way. I added the drink holder too using dollar cup holder from walgreens. Here's a link for a bungee kit and you can also use the cleats to run your anchor. I don't recommend anchoring in much current either and if you anchor from the fron you'll spin around. http://paddlerscove.amazonwebstore.com/Kayak-Bungee-Kit/M/B0015DGT2O.htm?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle
  22. Agreed with what Al and Eric said, and in the evening don't forget your topwater action. My absolute favorite (not the most productive) lure of all time is a black jitterbug fished after dark using a headlamp.
  23. Great report and nice pics. I'm also glad to hear you saw a "water snake" instead of the typical Cottonmouth or Copperhead claim. Many harmless snakes get killed by fools who don't know the difference.
  24. Welcome from St Louis, Mo
