  1. I will be going to Mammoth Lakes the first week of September. Does anyone have some suggestions for some trips, both short and long, to make the best use of my available time there? I will plan to fish 3 or 4 days while we are there. Thanks.
  2. Too rich for my blood! I'll stick with my trusty Coleman bungeed tightly in the canoe.
  3. You go Brother!!!!
  4. I agree with the Konic. If you decide you want to spend a little more, I would recommend the Ross Evolution LT. Can't go wrong with either in my opinion.
  5. Great report and nice looking fish. What did the big rainbow in the park take?
  6. I've added a size 14 scud hook and had a friend catch a trout while using the indicator.
  7. Mc Flylon makes an excellent indicator material as does Glo-Bug yarn. treat both with a dry fly floatant and they will last all day.
  8. Looks like a landing net to me.
  9. I wholeheartedly agree!!! If it were easy everyone would be doing it. To quote Tom Hanks in A League of Their Own, " The hard is what makes it great".
  10. I bought the Streamline combo for the kids to use and as a loaner for beginners. While it's not an upper end Orvis rod, it performs satisfactorily for a beginner set. I would have no problem recommending it to a beginner who doesn't want to spend a lot of money to get started.
  11. I bought a pair of Simms Freestone boots last year. I fell in love with them almost immediately. They are the first pair of wading boots I have owned where my foot actually slipped into the boot without being forced. They are extremely comfortable and the toe box has more room than any other boot I have owned in the past. I have recommended these to two other friends and they both bought a pair.
  12. Sounds like a great day! I always enjoy when the water is up and a little off color.
  13. I happened to see 6 agents opening day at Montauk. They were busting one of our neighbors for what they described as " multiple infractions". One of them came over and talked to us and mentioned they had written more tickets this year for the opener than they had in a long time.
  14. Earlier this week we had great success with white micro jigs, zebra midges, egg patterns and small streamers. Water levels were slightly above average with good flow and just a tad murky. Good Luck!!
  15. I guess this happens when you are 6'6" tall and weigh 275 and built like an NFL tackle. You don't hold all that up on a pair of size 10's.
  16. Hey All, I have a friend who needs a pair of size 16 wading shoes. He would prefer to find a used pair if possible. If anyone has a pair to sell or knows of any super deals on a new pair, please pass this info on. Thanks!!
  17. You can purchase by the day. I think the cost is around $7 per day. I always buy the non-resident annual because it pays for itself in just a couple of trips.
  18. 3 wt, You are correct. It is the hole right before the stream turns along the high bluff area known as "the chutes."
  19. Looking for a good used rod fitting the above description in full flex action. If anyone has one they want to part with let me know. Please send pics if possible. Thanks
  20. Congrats on the nice Bow!! We were also there last weekend and I believe we saw your party at Hudson's Corner. I love fishing in the cold. It keeps the masses away.
  21. I fished last year on New Years day. By afternoon, the sun was bright and I absolutely slew them on a size 18 Griffith's Gnat. The air temperature, by the way, was 15 degrees.
  22. Great looking streamers! I really like the look you get by using the fish skulls.
  23. RIO makes both a clear and pink shock gum material. The pink material is stronger than the clear and makes am excellent strike indicator. I make my own shock gum sections by cutting a piece approx. 12 " in length. Tie a perfection loop in both ends. Ideally, you want the loop to keep the loop small so it will pass easily through your guides, if need be. After I tie both ends, I hold the loop of the knot with one hand and stretch the loop with the other. This pulls the knot down tightly and minimizes the size. As the loop is tightened, I add a drop of superglue to secure the knot. I have found from past experience this keeps the knot from coming undone.
  24. Ah yes, the dreaded ' Dance of the Trout Stream". I'm happy to say I have not had the experience for several years, but the last time I did the "two step" was memorable. I made the classic rookie wading mistake of lifting my back foot before my front foot was firmly planted. The date was March 1st, the water was high and swift. I all too soon realized my mistake as cold water filled my waders. I have to say that I did fare better than a guy I saw earlier that morning who took a complete header, nothing floating on the water but his hat!!!
  25. Kinkaid has been very proactive in improving their fishery over the past few years. Stocking ponds were built years ago and good numbers of smallmouth as well as walleya and largemouth bass are released into the lake in early fall. IDNR recently placed over 200 fish attractors in the lake. I have attached a copy of the lake map with the GPS coordinates. ~$nkaid Lake Fish Attractors Main Oct 2010.doc
