When I first smelled it at Norfork, I heard the smell was from decomposing algae and the rotten egg smell was the byproduct of that process. I could never find out though if the smell was coming from the lake water through the turbines or if it was coming from the algae in the tailwater. Any idears?

There also seemed to be a distinct smell at the river on Saturday. The smell was not a constant, but, there were definitely times I could smell something kind of "phosphorusy". The smell reminded me of the odor that emanated at the Norfork tailwater from a couple years back, kind of like rotten eggs.

Wade fished just below #1 down to the river left side of Big Hole today. I think 2 generators were online. Haven't been to Taney in a while, but man, the water seems to be a "weird" color and there's no clean gravel!!! Is it just me or does it seem the river bottom has been matted over? And, the fish seemed very sluggish. What is up?

I've got no problem waving a white flag. A truce is a splendid idea, Phil. Chief, I'll meet you over in the "Vintage Lure" section. We can talk about old lures as relating to Presidential politics. Just kiddin. Good fishing all.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful to anyone. If I offended you or anyone else, I'm sorry. I would never question a person's relationship with God. Also, I wasn't trying to question Palin's faith. I'm questioning whether she can be blinded by faith. That's all.

I feel kind of guilty for laughing, but, that's funny. At least your son's hurl didn't set off a chain reaction hurl.

Does it mean I have a messiah view of Obama if I've painted my living room ceiling with him wearing a crown of thorns and a halo of light around his head? That's not a messiah view it's just constructive idolitry. Actually, I kind of messed up on his nose, the painting kind of looks like Chris Rock. When the ceiling fan is going it's like he's winking at me. I do have to agree with you Hitler, Mao and Obama three peas in a pod. Maybe if you would have said I would have gotten it. Or maybe the equation of their evil acts all rolled up into one big sadistic pythagorean thereom.

I don't get it. Why do you call him ?

I thought Palin handled herself well last night and was nothing like the rambling wreck she portrayed during the recent Couric interviews. It looked to me like she was well coached and stuck to her talking points. I also thought she stuck so close to her talking points and strengths during some questions that she would go back to them instead of giving specific solutions to the questions. In my opinion, Biden presented facts and solutions to some of the substantitive issues whereas Palin presented the fact that she and McCain are reformers and Mavericks. I also thought it was interesting when the question was asked about the VP's responsibilities. Palin went right along with Cheney's philosophies about the Senate but Biden said it's not the VP's responsibility to influence the Senate only to vote in the case of a tie. I thought it was funny how Palin said Obama and Biden are looking back at the previous administration and not forward. But then, I didn't hear Palin present any different policy positions than the previous administrations'. How am I to assume they are going to be any different if the policy positions are the same or similar? Actually, I would vote for Palin if she would have chanelled Marge "Son of a" Gunderson from Fargo last night and used the word, "malfesense" or any of the phrases like, "Oh, for Pete's sake", "Oh, Yahh" or "You betcha".

I guess I have no idea who LMW was talking about. Just made a guess. I don't follow Illinois politics. Some of those statements sounded pretty far fetched. Speaking of political machines. I'm wondering, does anyone know if Sarah Palin was McCain's first choice for vice president? Or, was it someone like Lieberman? Did he choose her strictly for political reasons?
-
I'll make a guess! Barrack HUSSEIN Obama!

I agree kevinkirk, we all want what we have and are unwillling to give it up. However, as Al Agnew states, there are, "TRUE COSTS. If you compute the true costs of everything we do and every product we buy, you'd soon find that a serious effort at recycling would lessen the pressure to mine every available place. However, like I said in another thread, as long as the consumer only pays the sticker price and somebody else, or all of us, pay for the pollution and clean up costs and health costs and loss of salmon runs cost, mining new resources will always trump recycling the same resources."

Hey Hmac58, It depends on if you want to fish the "lake" meaning lots of motorized boat traffic or fish the arm of the lake which typically means less motorized boat traffic. If you are fishing from a canoe and don't have a shuttle, the best spot for the James River Arm may be 1) the access at Blunk Road or 2) the access at Walnut Springs. Depending on the flow of the James River, Blunk Road is possibly where the flow of the river peters out at the lake. You could possibly paddle up from Blunk and fish some current or paddle down and fish more "lakey" water (even though it still looks like a river). Blunk Road is just West of Galena off of Hwy 248. Blunk Road is synonymous with McCord Bend which is not a place you want to grow roots. Walnut Springs is a subdivision located off of Highway 173 and it is definitely "lakey" but not as wide as if you were to put in at Highway 76 at Cape Fair. Good fishin.

To quote bigredbirdfan, "Sources other than blogs please. Real facts."

bigredbirdfan, I listened to the Cardinals pregame this evening. Wasn't able to listen to the game, but, I did hear Mike Shannon talking with a guy that pitched 22 years in the league. I had to leave my automobile and I never did get his name, but, darn I wanted to. When this particular gentleman was a rookie or second year player he had Sandy Koulfax give him some advice. The advice was, in summarization, "Listen to a man because it's the polite thing to do. Take that which applies to you because it's the smart thing to do." IMO, you have taken nothing from this thread nor previous threads in different topics because none of it applies to you. Try to think like a fisherman. This is a fishing forum. I've surmised from your previous posts, you have a family and enjoy fishing. That's great. But, you are not a true fisherman in the "romantical" sense. Real facts don't necessarily apply when the source of that information is bogus. If you fished these creeks, streams and rivers nearly everyday, you would see the effect greed has on the ecosystem. The guys who spoke on the thread I provided were obviously fishermen. I do not know any of them, but, you could tell every one of them were against the Pebble Mine project. Just like everyone in the Ozarks fishing community was against the Overlook Development going in down on the Norfork. And, the Overlook Development was just the clearing of trees and siltation runoff into a managed trout river. Just imagine if the tailings pool from the Pebble Mine project were to burst during an earthquake. The world's largest run of Sockeye Salmon decimated. Even the tailings pool may effectively put enough effluent runoff in the streams to negatively effect the ability of the Sockeyes to even find their spawning grounds. That run of salmon is priceless. It has taken eons to develop and for one mine constructed from greedy ambitions to destroy it is just wrong. I don't care about commodities, copper, gold and the other one I don't even remember how to spell. The world has enough gold. Enough gourmet popcorn stands. Enough Brazilian maple hardwood entry doors. Give me a break. Who really needs it when the environment is the one getting raped. The economy of America needed a slowdown and a reality check. Governor Palin and/or VP Palin will just extend the exploitation of our natural resources. While that exploitation may defer our overall costs in the short term and keep our economy stable, those costs will be immeasurable in the long term. Just a thought. Let me know if the Cardinals won. Hey Soggyfeet, That I'm aware of, Obama has not said nobody will have a tax increase. From what I've surmised, Obama will eliminate the tax cuts implemented by Bush for those making above $250,000 (not us). McCain will keep those tax cuts in place, overall. An analysis of their tax plans can be found at http://www.taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blo...rison-of-t.html If you don't trust that website and would like to research it on your own, I've found Google is a great search engine. Just type "Obama" "Tax Plan" or "McCain" "tax plan" and see which plan best represents your concerns. Hope that helps.

I thought the thread I presented was interesting because those guys were talking about Palin's comments regarding Measure 4 before she was McCain's pick for VP. It didn't appear to me that "Obama's smear machine" had anything to do with the thread. I took the thread seriously because it sounded like the guys were fishermen, not politicians and not pundits. Maybe some of them are though, I don't know. IMO, they seemed concerned about the health and welfare of the watershed and that Palin's decision to take off her governor's hat and present her personal opinion regarding Measure 4 effected the outcome of the vote.
-
Been doing some studying. It appears Palin's environmental track record ain't too good. Here's a thread from fellow fishermen in Alaska that seems to sum it up. The thread was posted prior to the vote for Measurement 4. http://www.speypages.com/speyclave/showthread.php?p=211581 The last post is particularly interesting.

I appreciate the comments, but, was wondering if anyone knows if "Sarah Palin" has made "statements" regarding the approval of the "Pebble Mine" project and/or Measure 4.

Does anyone know if Palin is or was in favor of the Pebble Mine project?

Best Fiberglass Jon Boat
Fishhand replied to Piscator's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I've noticed the rod trays don't hold spinning gear very well. I usually take along a tote and place any additional rods aross the tote (lid off) and, if necessary, set the rods down and use the tote as a stripping basket. The beeping on the trolling motor drives me insane, as well. Almost wished I'ld went with a tiller control, but my front deck isn't big enough to safely utilize as a casting deck (although we do it anyway). And, I agree with RPS, river jons are terrible on the lake. Not only do they swamp, but, the slighest breeze will push you wherever it wants. -
Best Fiberglass Jon Boat

Sweet mount CMO. I purchased a set of wooden oars at the River Rescue garage sale for $2 on the express purpose of trying them out on my Sup. 2000. However, my buddy "borrowed" them for his Water Skeeter about 3 years ago and I've yet to see them. I'm glad to see they work! Do you utilize the rod trays on your boat? Or, do you find they get in the way more than they're utilized? Also, is that a wireless trolling motor? Cause if it is, I've got the exact same one and they are a B..otch at night due to the delay. Plus, Plus, Minus, Minus, Left, Left, Left, Right, etc. -
I went all Olberman, sorry 'bout that....edited the post and took out the word, "vomitous".

You're right Dano. I apologize kevinkirk. I shot from the hip and went with my gut feeling. bigredbirdfan, There is no burden on Greybear to disprove your post. If we're just going to degenerate into posting comments from talk show hosts we might as well give this pointless debate up right now. Both sides have their rhetorical nut jobs. I'm a registered Democrat, but, jeez I could not stand to listen to Olberman or Mathews...good riddance. Stop listening to the pundits and listen to the men in the campaign. Then vote. I view those pundits and talk show hosts as glorified used car salesmen. They're going to say whatever you want to hear in order to promote themselves in turn. John Prine sang it best, "Blow up your tv, throw away your paper, move to the country, build you a home. Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, try and find Jesus on your own." I challenge either you or kevinkirk to provide unbiased evidence supporting a fraction of the portfolio you've presented on this forum. Just a little challenge. Unbiased remember. Good luck. Jimbob
