  1. The guys at Ozark Mtn Trading Co. are top notch. If anyone asks me about buying a canoe or kayak, I send them to Garfield. Mad River Synergy is the one I looked awful hard at. It is a great setup, light enough for one person to be able to maneuver off water, and long enough to lake use. Also, Mad River makes some killer accesories to outfit the boat. I look forward to seeing the pics. Congratulations.
  2. Thanks for the update Mike.

  5. Definitely some unique water your way. Hope to hit the water with you one day. I think there is alot to be learned from you. Tightlines buddy.
  6. Congrats buddy. Can I get your autograph next time I see you...... It is very cool indeed. Very well deserved IMO.
  7. I am glad I am not the only one who does this......
  8. 3wt, I agree that the Tailwaters are a totally different animal than a natural stream. Different water makeup/quality, different food sources, etc. But most tailwaters are just regulated streams. Not many just appeared because of dams, there were rivers before, so the beds cannot be much different. The water temp from the dam causes alot different insect organisms to grow though. I am not 100% sure where you are fishing, but I see TONS of fish caught on sowbugs. Infact sowbugs and scuds are one of the flies you can fish in about any taiwlater and be successful. There is a different presentation when it comes to these flies thought verusus a nymph. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying.
  9. Water has slowly been dropping since the beginning of August. A few sparce rain showers have helped with being floatable, but still a little low. Fish tend to be very spooky and holding in very deep holes. Best fishing is morning or evening. For the fly fisherman, terrestrials and poppers are working great, as well as crayfish patterns and olive/white clouser minnows. Worms and lizards in watermellon or pumpkin seed bounced along the bottom, or hellgramite and stick baits fished very deep for spin tackle. Fish the shady spots in between rapids and also where the river changes from gravel to rocky bottom.
  10. The water releases have made the Tailwaters very hard to fish. There have been time of low water for a few hours when fishing has been good, but wading during release is not recommended. The drawdown has been slowing from the 24/7 plan over the last few days. Schedule looks like there will be low or no releases during the mornings. Fish should be fat after feeding during the releases. Scuds and sowbugs will have been worked loose by the higher water movement and trout should be keying in on those. Also with the summer months, midge hatches are an everyday occurance. Copper johns and Hares Ear Nymphs are good representations of dead or dying insects, so always keep these handy.
  11. Being a Harrison native.....I think I have seen the mount in person. Impressive. I always wondered what happened to old mounts. See alot of them that look like they have mange. You do some killer work.
  12. From what I have heard from you lake fisherman...........the drawdown has caused some crazy temp fluctuations. Looks like they are pretty close to leveling....so the 24/7 stuff should be slowing.
  13. Opinions vary.....
  14. Phil, I will have a few for the boxes when I come up on the 18th.
  15. SWEPCO hasnt been producing very well in the last few years. I would imagine it would be rather warm with the heat coming off of it. That being said, the best luck for me has been the shore line directly across from the ramp or back by the trails in the brush.
  16. Who is this Zack Hoyt character???? Sounds shady. Thanks guys. KC.......I am just a pup.
  17. Yes. Quite a few. Check out these websotes. www.recovery.gov. www.doi.gov/recovery.
  18. Thanks for the post Phil and thanks to John for helping. All three organizations are great and really show the benfit that being in the outdoors has int eh recovery process. I am personally involved in Reel Recovery and PHW and have enjoyed every second of both. Robin has done a killer job putting the concert together. There are some outstanding items in teh raffle/silent auction as well as the killer music. I regret not being able to make the concert, but know it would be well worth the money.
  19. Great report. My hat is off to you for instilling the importance of conservation at a young age.
  20. Just to add a little more......I think to be a succesful show, it must be well rounded. Pretty fish, good scenery, education about every aspect of fishing from technique to insects, to surroundings. If I want to watch some goober reel in fish after fish, I will go to Roaring River. It is the even mix of many things and not the over abundance of one thing.
  21. I am enjoying the Trout Bum Diaries movies. Not so much educational, but very good scenery and shows the good with the bad.
  22. Stimulus bill aids repairs along Buffalo BUDDY GOUGH Posted on Thursday, July 30, 2009 The economic stimulus bill known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has been a boon for the Buffalo National River in providing funds for rehabilitating trails and facilities along the river and creating jobs. The park was selected to receive about $1.2 million to help with repairs associated with January's ice storm and a near-record flood in March 2008, according to a recent news release from the U.S. Department of the Interior. The funding was approved after a "rigorous" review of all pending construction, maintenance and repair projects throughout the national park system. About two years' worth of work is planned along Buffalo National River trails popular with hikers and "horsebackers." The allocation of about $187,000 is the most spent on the park's trails in more than a decade. The funding allows for the hiring of additional workers and contractors and the purchase of needed equipment and supplies. Nationwide, job opportunities with the Youth Conservation Corps are up by about 700 percent. Initial funding for Buffalo National River projects was allocated two months ago and was put to immediate use, said Kevin Cheri, park superintendent. "We have been so extremely busy trying to get the work done that I have to apologize for the delay in getting the word out," he said last Thursday. Nevertheless, he sounded very pleased to be busy putting the unexpected funding to good use for the park and the benefit of local residents. "We've been able to hire 37 youth from the surrounding area to work on the trails," Cheri said. "We have also been able to temporarily hire two dozen or more adults to work on damage to our facilities, and some of these were people who had lost their regular jobs." Depending on where recent rainstorms have hit, the trail crews have been working in hopscotch fashion from one end of the river to the other. "We've been hitting trails in the frontcountry and the backcountry, including work on the Buffalo River Trail, the Lost Valley Trail and the trails in the Compton area along the upper river," Cheri said. The bulk of the money is being spent on repair of icedamaged park buildings and flood-damaged roads, walkways and retaining walls at riverside parks. "We are working on flood damage to accesses at parks like Tyler Bend and Buffalo Point, which were among the hardest hit, and we are repairing park buildings like a pavilion where a tree crashed on the roof during the ice storm," Cheri said. Besides stimulating the local economy, the work done so far already has drawn appreciative notice by hikers, horseback riders and campers. "We are already getting a lot of feedback from the public," Cheri noted, adding that the stimulus money would allow expedited completion of rehabilitation work that would have taken a decade to get done with regular park staff. "We are very pleased about what we are going to be able to accomplish over the next two years, and we hope the people of Arkansas realize what they stand to gain from the extra funding," Cheri said. http://www.nwanews.com/adg/Outdoors/265565/
  23. They have not started the 24/7 generation yet. They have been generating longer during the days thought. On 24/7 generation, the lake will be dropping 6" every day. Edit: The SWPA website shows running water all day Saturday.......so it pretty well is done. Looks like they will be going 24/7 until Aug 12th.
  24. Per Mr. Scott Branyan.......they should be starting it this Saturday or Sunday. I wouldnt be placing any bets on when it does actually start though.
  25. I have heard the same about Rogers Outdoor, but have had good luck tehre myself. The other HLS is on the very north side of Bentonville/south side of Bella Vista. Across from the Home Depot and McDonalds. It is a tad smaller, but usually has a good selection of live baits and river fishing supplies.
