  1. New arrival. Three TFO Reel Recovery rods and three TFO Reel Recovery reels. One rod is already spoken for. Also as an added bonus, a certificate for any TFO rod in their catalog. These rods and reels are sharp.
  2. Had a great time with Phil and Phillip(zonker). there were tons of kids and some super huge grins. Alot of them had not fished before, so this was a blast. They got their picture taken with the fish as well as learning about conservation at the stations. A few great sized bluegills and catfish were caught.
  3. Between SWPA and the corp, there is no telling when a release will start. A call to one or two of the canoe livery's would probably be your best bet. They would be watching the generation and release trends. There are plenty of easy access wade opportunities on the Tailwaters, so dont let the worry of generation deter you from fishing.
  4. We made the front page with this article today. If you are in Arkansas, it will be in your Democrat Gazette. http://nwanews.com/bcdr/News/74145/
  5. Hey Jeremy, Was up by outlet one and thought that was you down that way. Leonard was showing off his "saltwater" rigs. I hooked into a gorgeous 20+in rainbow upstream from the boat ramp. It was a fighter and my stinkin net was useless. Was stripping one of Leanrds PMS's in Olive. Wasnt a bad day for my first time on Taney.
  6. Looks like a black powder setup to me. With the good looking barrel and wood grain, it might be handmade. I havent shot my .50 in a few years. Sure loved building it though.
  7. Thanks for the comments Cricket. There is alot of stuff outt here geared towards breast cancer awareness, but not much for men. Mr. Ken Richards, who is heading this up, is a cancer survivor and attended a Retreat while in treatment. He said it was an amazing experience. Reel Recovery is kinda low key, and to my knowledge, doenst have a retreat in our midwest area. There are alot of people who are big fans now that they know about it. Also check out the john Wayne Cancer Organization.
  8. Hey Phil, Dropped you an email about this. Give me a shout whenver you get a few minutes.
  9. Heard about it from a ranger last night. Three in the hospital with one severe.
  10. Welcome from NW Ark. There is a massive wealth of information avaliable here on about every type of fishing imaginable. Feel free to jump in with any questions.....fly fishing is a highly rewarding journey to start.
  11. TFO has just released their Reel Recovery Large Arbor Reels. They look sharp on the RR rods. Here is a link: http://texasreelrecovery.org/images/rr_tfo_prisim.v1.jpg
  12. If anyone has an extra spot in a boat any time, I would love to join. I have been itching to try a striper on a fly rod, but dont have the boat access or the knowledge of the lake. Don't want to come off as a mooch, so I could handle gas, beer, or whatever.
  13. I have to take a weekend and head your way Phil. Grew up in Harrison and never once fished Taney....let the flogging begin.
  14. Purely opinion of course, but I tend to agree with your big trout hiding along the bottom. There is a great movie out there titled "The Underwater World of Trout". Most of the large fish that were recorded were holding tight against the bottom and in the tight crevices of large boulders. I am also a firm believer in the big guys really feeding more at night. Once a fish of any kind reaches a certain size, his intake of food has to increase. Sometimes they will take the most productive lie for feeding on bugs, but it is easier to target larger food. Purely speculation of course. I have seen huge fish caught on size 30 midges.
  15. We had a large group on the Beaver Tailwaters last Friday(May 30). Fog was extrememly heavy in the morning, but the sun burned it off very quickly. The very warm temps and blue bird skies presented a bit of an issue. Fish were able to see under the water very well. A nice midge hatch started coming off slightly before lunch, so we switched from scuds and 6x tippet to tiny midges and 7x. The trout really turned on about 2pm with more than 60 being caught between lunch and the end of the day. Quite a few nice rainbows were caught as well as two tiny browns. Very little wind and little to no movement on the water made casting and drifting very easy. The higher 80 degree temps made the chilly water fell very good. The wonderful spring scenery in the Arkansas Ozarks only added to the wonderful day had by all.
  16. No kiddos here Brian....just dogs. I got it because I had a few casting clinics with kiddos not to mention a few guiding trips with father and son. This was great get them casting. A 9ft rod is a tad big for a short feller to learn on. I have a close friend who got one fo the pink ones for his daughter(7yr old I believe) and she loves it. She could cast his 9', but was having to ruin the technique to get a good cast. The smaller rod let her learn the basics quicker and not get worn out. It also matches her bright pink vest and hat.
  17. If we were not having our Reel Recovery Day on Beaver that Saturday, I would swing up there. Best of luck and take plenty of pics.
  18. WalMart and Bass Pro have been selling similiar for a few years now.
  19. I like the Journey by Ross Reels. Great action and easy to learn with. Color is a little wild, but usable. It is fully setup for a kid. The big seller for me was the smaller handle. http://www.rossreels.com/products/fly-fish...ney-fly-rod.cfm
  20. Gota sneak away and hit it with you guys again. How do I get on the invite list???
  21. Welcome. We tore up the Largemouth on Table Rock during the rains last weekend. Silver and white spinners with willow blades. They were very active. Spawning was done, so they were not on the beds. They werent really on the points either.
  22. Met two friends at Bathhouse early this morning(side note-they have rebuilt the bathouse). The fog was extremely thick and the fish were very finicky. Started out on scuds and tried midges, softhackles, and copperjohns. Bites were very light. My wiming on setting the hook was off today for some reason. Saw a few small browns landed, and a few rainbows. Water was very high from Taney holding water. If we get alot of rain and have to open any of the gates, water will get high fast. The shoals at Bathouse were not shoals, just a quick shoot. Watched as a friend pulled a few bows out of the tailout. He let me step in to try out his rod(custom 10' 4wt) and using one of the "thingamabobber". Got a few great casts and drifts, but just wasnt setting the hook well.
  23. I absoluely hate paddling in even semi-popular areas due to ignorant boaters. That being said, there is good crappie fishing around MonteNe, I like some of the coves around Ventris, and of course the arms of the White and War Eagle for spawning White, Hybrids, and Striper. Also check out Lake Leatherwood around Eureka. Good Bass and Bluegill on a no-wake lake. You also have Lake Fayetteville, Lake Elm Springs, Lake Sequoyah, etc. that are good fishing and alot smaller than Beaver. As on any lake, you have to watch for the big boats.
  24. Just an FYI for anyone attending the Beaver Store event. I am hoping to have a few of the Reel Recovery rods in my possesion for sale that day. They are going for $150. Also, Reel Recovery offers the option of buying a personalized Reel Recovery rod. This adds your name and the production number fo the rod put on the spine in gold lettering. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
  25. Enjoy Phil. I grew up in the Boxley Valley, and love the area. Definately dont get down there often enough.
