  1. I have looked at leases this year and decided I really dont care to PAY to hunt. I do have access to other acreage, so its not so detrimental to me.
  2. I am planning on scoping out some of this water this coming saturday. I floated these waters as a kid, but that has been a bit ago. after floating the Elk two weeeknd ago, I am looking forward to the scenery and smallies. I got room in the Subaru if anyone wants to tag along. I plan on throwing a fly, but might bring my spinner just in case.
  3. I am looking forward to it as well. If you see a redheaded feller untying a knot......thats me for sure.
  4. Welcome from NW Ark. I miss my surveying days. Being in the office behind a desk isnt quite as enjoyable and not nearly as many fishing opportunities.
  5. We put in behind the gas station in Pineville and tok out at the low water bridge near the train tracks. What a great trip. Can't wait to do some more of this river. http://good-times.webshots.com/album/56833...host=good-times
  6. Colors are getting along pretty well. We had very cool temps the last few nights, so colors should be in full. Floated the Elk last weeeknd and the leaves were very pretty.
  7. I fished Crooked Creek a ton as a kid but havent in a few years. I need to try to remember where all we fished.
  8. Forgive the ignorance......where abouts is Riverside? I am very unfamiliar with the putins and take outs.
  9. I have been meaning to get up on the Elk for a while now and may have an opening in my weekend. Is there any section that is floatable? I plan on fishing, but am really just wanting to get out on the water. Doesnt have to be a long float at all......I usually dont rush my trips. Anyone is welcome to join also.....its nice to have someone with first hand knowledge of the water.
  10. I agree about the no motors. It is great enjoying the serene landscape and sounds of nature, until some fires up a litle motor. I lived in the Boxley Valley for 5 years. I am now an hour and a half away and cant make it over thre often enough. Better just schedule a trip or two in this winter.
  11. Bringing back memories. It's been about five years since I hit that section. Got some great pictures out of it though.
  12. I was really hoping for a no-Beeson truce, but oh well. I try to stay out of anything political. I do my own research, form my own opiinion, hell I even bait my own hook. Good call fellas.
  13. Welcome from NW Arkansas Bob. It is a pleasure to have you here.
  14. Sadly I was out of town Terry. There was a bunch of fellas there I would have liked to meet in person. Hopefully next go round I can head over.
  15. WElcome from NW Arkansas.
  16. Thanks for your help Dano. I mod two other boards and admin one and we have been slammed with SPAM. Someone has made one helluva good hack for Vbulletin.
  17. Thought I had this sold, but the guy stopped emailing.....oh well. I have a Talus 33 by North Face. It is a 3 person(2with gear) tent. Super dry and super strong. It has been in the rain, snow and high winds without even budging. The rain flap extends out beyond the tent edge giving great protection and a nice storage area. I have had the tent about 3 years now. No rips, tears, stains, etc. All poles are in great shape and are aluminum. I also have the footprint for this tent from North Face. This is put down on the ground to protect the bottom of the tent. I paid $250 for the tent plus $50 for the footprint. I would like to get $150 out of it. I am located in NW Arkansas. Edit: You can contact me here or at zmhoyt at gmail dot com
  18. I had 3.25' in my guage at Pea Ridge. Lots of rain, but driving into work this morning, one thing was appareant. RUNOFF There was a ton of water in the creeks. I believe it was said earlier, but we are saturated. Dig a hole deeper than a foot deep and you will hit ground water.
  19. Any idea how it will look this weekend? I am thinking about heading up there. I have been once, but really didnt know what I was doing. Looks like some rain and I wasnt sure how much that affected the river.
  20. Don't quite classify me as a "tinfoil hat" kinda guy, but I would prefer to not have my surfing habits available for uncle sam at his whim. Prior court cases have shown Google is more than happy to turn over all search's made by an IP any time asked. On the mobile front, I just downloaded Opera Mobile and absolutely love it. I just wish cell phones had more security. It is nice to be able to check all your accounts from your phone, but when the guy down the hall is copying all your info.......well you know.
  21. I have a Dirigo and absolutely love it. Any idea how old the boat is and what size skirt?
  22. I am in the Civil Engineering business as well. Don't do much work in Branson, but have done some here and there. Mostly here in NW Ark. I have a few subdivisions under my belt, but mainly transportation work......so yes, I make money off asphalt. No engineer here though, I have a drafting degree(I do most of the work with none of the liability). Good luck in SWMO. That is a severely growing market. There are some great firms over that way.
  23. It is sad. I work in the industry and wish there was more being done to replace if something is tore down. One route alot of city's are taking are stricter zoning regs. This will not fully aleviate the problem, but it does cut down on the amount of subdivisions that go tree less. Also on a side note, you would be suprised how little of the water runoff is actually affected by auto chemicals and such. most of it is filtered naturally unless there is an over abundance of direct runoff(mechanics shop, parts store, etc.)
  24. Went out in the kayak yesterday. Put in at Parker and paddled up to the Dam. Ken from JustFishingGuides joined me. It was very interesting to hear him tell about the water before the change. Alot of new holes and alot of previous holes that were now gravel bars. Parker still looked a little rough, but fishable. Water below the cabins seems very deep. A guy said he had to hike downstream a bit before he could cross. Fishing wasnt bad, we were jsut paying more attention to the water than hunting fish. Alot of blind casting to see where they were holding. Fished a red copper john in the morning until my inpatience broke it off on a bow. Then switched to a dirty white scud and had decent luck. The real winner of the day was a brown or charcoal scud tied with rabbits hair. Overall a good paddle. It is really enjoyable getting to learnt eh water out there.
  25. Looks like it is suppposed to hit Pea Ridge this afternoon. Guess I might throw the kayak on top of the car just in case. Never had to paddle to work....wonder where I will put my briefcase??
