  1. Too many people firing a lot of things at them. I can see how they shut down. Cold weather's coming back. We need a steady period of above-freezing temps at night to really get the fish going. It's coming.
  2. Just figured out that you did fish on Saturday, not today. My bad, they might have had a big feed on Friday? Many fishermen have figured out the Current more times than me.
  3. Just my not-that experienced advice. I'm still learning a lot. The Current is a great river, but by no means is a successful day guaranteed. I've been skunked twice and had only 2-4 fish days several times. Weather has a lot to do with it. It seems when a cold front enters the fish shut down. The river gets hit relatively hard once Spring comes. The fish get wise. I know following a heavy feeding day makes it tough to coax them to hit your fly. The fish might have had a great Saturday buffet. I know it was warm here in Springfield. I've only fished on top a few times when I see visible rising fish. My fishing bud has been very successful with caddis pupae and sparkle pupae flies. I usually fish a nymph, and this winter have fished midges, scuds, egg flies and SJW's. We also fish tandem rigs. Smaller streamers also work at times. Hang in there. Spring is a great time to fish this river.

    Tan Vat

Nice work! I love it when the water is a bit off color. Wish I could hit the stream before the rain. It looks like a mini-blowout might happen if it rains tonight and tomorrow.

    Tan Vat

Had some success with BH rainbow dub scuds and a San Juan worm variation last weekend. Then the temp. dropped and it slowed down. Have also had success this Fall with zebra midges. Not much success with surface flies. Good luck, it's a tough fish at times.
  6. Welcome Juan! I'm a transplant to the Ozarks from WA state. Maybe I'm not a 'transplant' now, starting my 4th year here.
  7. Brown looks good...mmmmm....You guys are hardcore. Looks like a great trip.
  8. My biggest fish have come from the Current, but the NFOW holds many more, and, I've only fished it once with a couple of 12" fish. I'd like to try the Eleven Point this coming Spring. Thanks for the good news about the Current guys.
  9. Anyone else having trouble with viewing the pictures? I just get a box with red 'X'. Something w. my computer? Thanks.
  10. Very nice, there's big fish if you put in the time and effort.
  11. Congrats Michael!
  12. I have a 5WT, 9' TFO, 6 piece, handy for travel. Put it to the test last weekend on an unintentional steelhead in WA, did well, tippet didn't.
  13. Another winner, thanks Jeremy.
  14. I agree. There have been many who've given great advice on here and on the stream. We're also lucky to be in a place where we can fish so much of the year. I recall fishing the Current in January last year. That's not the case in many places west and north of this region.
  15. Excellent brown BM!
  16. Yeow! Can you say "kipe?" What a brown in the picture. Thanks Phil.
  17. Ultra Chenille stick, hmmm....
  18. Here's the pics from Sunday, Nov. 8. The middle brown w. egg in photo was much more colorful than the pic shows. The other two are the chunky 16". He needs to do some crunches, like the the guy who caught him. Not fishing the Current until sometime in Dec. Heading back home to WA for Turkey Day, and fishing the Yakima for a few hours that weekend. Hopefully will hook into some rainbows and/or cutts.
  19. Excellent work, beautiful brown.
  20. Looks like a tan/brown SJW in the one pic. Good job. Crane trout are too skittish for me. (I'm not stealthy enough.)
  21. Water was high, off color. Had a bleak morning from around Parker, only one juvenlie rainbow to show. Skunked at Baptist also. Ran into a guy I met in Sept. who has fished the Current for years. His advice is always welcome as I pulled into Tan Vat. The rig of success was a glo bug, peach w. fire spot above a BH flashback scud, either olive or cream, it didn't seem to matter, and, the key, lotsa split shot above the egg fly. Caught and lost a 16-17" rainbow just above the former deadfall above Tan Vat, the flood washed it over. Wasn't prepared at all for a strike/run/fight and I lost him. I knew this set up was the ticket (Thanks Jack!). Worked up through to the Rock Garden/boulders and it was great action. Ended up catching my third-best brown, just under 16" and chunky. Caught 5 rainbows and 4 browns from 2:30-4:30PM approx. Of course lost 3 of 4 flies to snagging the bottom. Good thing I had them in the box, simple tie. Pictures soon, an excellent afternoon. It should be better today, with clouds and high 60's, river dropping.
  22. Good luck Mr. K, and thanks for the tying tips when I was in the shop.

    Blow Out

Goodnight fishermen, persons, 636cfs, not bad. Shooting for Sunday...

    Blow Out

Now it says 1300 cfs, but the graph is way above 2000. I'm hoping for the former.
